Mini Candy Cane Review: I like it. It's good. But it's also way too long, has poor mixing, along with a lot of other issues I won't go into here. So basically, the inferior Broadway adaptation but still worth the large amount of time it will take you to see it.

This time of year me and mine enjoy ourselves some Disney animated flicks. As I've done quite a few over the last week, going to be dividing them up into a few posts.

7. The Little Mermaid (1989) dir. Ron Clements & John Musker

Mini Candy Cane Review: It's short on story but the breathtaking animation and best Disney soundtrack carry it to greatness.

Mini Candy Cane Review: It still blows my mind how much the live action version missed the point.

9. Mulan (1998) dir. Tony Bancroft & Barry Cook

Mini Candy Cane Review: There is a "direct-to-video" quality to the last 90s, earl 00s Disney flicks. But Mulan didn't care and rocked anyways.

Mini Candy Cane Review: I do not understand the reaction to this movie. Yes, it gets a little too reference heavy during the comedown. But that doesn't diminish the rest of the flick, which shines with a likable protagonist, a fun villain, beautiful animation, and some really good music.

Mini Candy Cane Review: Such a raw film. Stitch is fantastic, but it's Lilo and the sibling relationship that makes this one special.

16. Toy Story 2 (1999) dir. John Lasseter

Mini Candy Cane Review: The least of the Toy Story flicks, hasn't aged as gracefully as the others. Crazy how similar this one and 3 are. To the point that 3 is basically a remake.

Mini Candy Cane Review: As with a lot of the earlier Disney flicks, not a lot of story to go around, and the narration grates the hell out of me. But 65 years later, the animation is still some of the most beautiful to ever grace the silver screen.

Hot Frosty

This being canon to both Mean Girls and Brooklyn Nine-Nine is absolutely wild.

A Netflix algorithm of a movie that asks, "What if all of Edward Scissorhands was just like Jack Frost?" It's pretty much your standard Hallmark Channel Christmas movie that Netflix made this time and it's pretty bad obviously. Dustin Milligan was sort of trying as "hot frosty" but Lacey Chabert was giving him nothing to act off of. Their chemistry was so incredibly dull and uninteresting and she was awful in this. Even though it's Netflix, they still somehow gave them a super cheap studio lot budget with a lot of fake snow. The only thing that made this somewhat bearable is Craig Robinson & Joe Lo Truglio who are basically playing Doug Judy and Boyle again. Lauren Holly is also in this who was in Dumb and Dumber and was weirdly giving off "Martha Stewart thirst trap" energy. Overall, it's a movie that ends with a Coldplay song and that just tells you everything you need to know.

Also, the title sounds like some weird, Christmas-themed sex act. :o

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!

Yesterday I had a Thanksgiving double feature courtesy of a Paramount+ Black Friday deal:

I've lost count of how many times I've watched Addams Family Values over the years but I hadn't seen Planes, Trains and Automobiles in a long time. Still holds up. It could even be the best Thanksgiving movie by default.

A pair of classics. Did Planes last night, will be doing Values tonight. Like you, I hadn't seen Planes in a while and was surprised how well it held up. John Candy helping others try to get home to their families during the holiday is always an absolute win.

Dear Santa

Perhaps I treated you too harshly, Red One.

What a turd of a movie. The Farrelly brothers are back and they just keep getting worse as filmmakers. While on paper this has a pretty fun and interesting idea for a Christmas movie about a dyslexic kid accidentally summoning Satan when he sent a letter to Santa, the execution is done so horribly and it's so cheaply made even for a streamer. If there's anything that shows the shine is off from Jack Black nowadays, it's this movie right here whose shtick is so incredibly obnoxious. The humor itself is so dated and not even done well, the pacing is bizarre, the acting is horrendous, they put a dead brother subplot that completely changes the tone of the movie by the 3rd act, and they also put Post Malone in this as himself who looks like he is struggling to get arena concerts for some reason. There's a Ben Stiller cameo and it's sadly the best scene in the movie and I'm sure it's because it's all improv. Overall, it's probably one of the worst movies of the year.
