Action-Adventure The All Encompassing Zorro thread

Maybe for All of you zorro Fans interesting:

Sean Gordon Murphy who may some know from his Batman White Knight comics, seems to have started Working on a Zorro Comic.

I'm really excited!

I knew he was working on something Zorro-related for a bit, but I'm happy to see some art for it

Got to jump in on the Disney era fun!
Love the period specific black flintlock pistol. Above is the awesome Marx "cap gun" version.
Some modern interpretations seem to forget he carried one. My favorite Zorro carries a pistol rant -

There is also a trove of imagery and discussion there from the Hypes shameless Zorro fandom,

LOL the chalk tipped Sword idea is great!
I think that was part of this "Action Set" - That time's equivalent of the Batman Cowl & Utility Belt.
Hat- Mask- Whip- Lariat- Pistol- Swords- Sheath & Knife- Awesome!

I like that Disney didn't shy away from giving him his pistol as per McCulley.
I hate that modern interpretation seem to retroactively apply Batman's no gun policy, which was never the case with Zorro.
Yes hes famously known for the sword, but he'd use a gun to shoot another gun out of someones hand, or to set up and force a sword duel. He was expert with it. He'd use every modern weapon available to him in his arsenal.
It'd be like portraying Musketeers not using muskets, just because they famously use swords.
They used both!
LOL I've ranted about this elsewhere, i guess I can't let it go it bugs me so much.

Above was the Action Set, I guess the rest of the costume, Cape, Belt, Gloves, came separate-

Probably my favorite set^ the Marx "Action Set" essentially the Zorro utility belt. The infamous chalk tipped swords, knife and sheath, lariat, whip, and yes of course the flintlock pistol.

Zorro used to garner his own section in department stores, you can see much of the Marx merch in the display...

Another fun merch detail, back then, Zorro used to have his own shop at Disneyland between Adventureland and Frontierland (between Mad Hatter & Davy Crockett Arcade^).

Small soldiers, but the art and design work on the tin panels (lithographs?) and with proper staging and lighting, the miniture figures were actually great for their time.

'The Mask of Zorro' at 25: Antonio Banderas recalls Steven Spielberg's prescient words on set of 1998 blockbuster

“Steven Spielberg said to me once when we were shooting, ‘This is probably going to be one of the last Westerns shot in the way the Westerns were shot in the old days, with real scenes with real horses, where everything is real, [real] sword fighting, no CGI.’ Everything was [practical].

“And he said, ‘But things are going to change. they’re going to change and they’re gonna change fast. And so you should be proud of this movie.’ And I am, probably even more now than at the time that I was doing it. I don’t know if I was absolutely conscious when I was doing Zorro that it was going to have an impact. The impact that it’s had, and especially after 25 years. … It was a very beautiful adventure movie with a lot of ingredients that made it shine in a very beautiful way. I have nothing but good memories.”

It would be nice, but I feel like it should now be time for new Zorro actors to step up, and considering Miguel Bernadeau, Wilmer Valderrama and Jean Dujardin are going to play the role, I think it is time for us to move on

Yes, it holds up really well. It feels timeless.

It’s really too bad the sequel doesn’t. It had everyone back (director, actors, producers), can’t believe what a step down it was. Maybe change of screenplay writers Orci and Kurtzman lol

By the way, the upcoming Secuyoa Studios Zorro show just got it's first image teased! This year is gonna be so good for Zorro fans

I remember seeing CZJ for the first time in Zorro, and thinking she was one of the most beautiful women I'd ever seen.

Alot of Zoomer's may know her as Wednesday's mom today, but I'll always remember her from Zorro

I remember when seeing this in theather and wondering- am I the only person in the universe right now flashing back to Bernardo vs Tony (West Side Story) knife draw.?

But damn she was absolutely stunning in that film, how is anyone complaining.:hrt:

Wish they'd kept a bit of deleted scenes, the riding and sword training scene where she showed her own skills, and wore a lady Zorro type bolero hat and gear, reflecting whose daughter she really is, might have lent itself more to anticipating the sequel.

Speaking of, enough time has passed since the sequel, I find myself nostalgic for it's cast and characters, that if they decided to do an Old Man Zorro with Banderas, now in a similar Hopkins role, passing the mantle to their (now grown and hopefully less annoying) son, making it a full 3 acts. I would not completley balk at the idea.:cwink:

Agree! She looked beautiful. Don't know what she'd done befrore, but Mask of Zorro is also where I first became aware of her.

What I wouldn't give to see Banderas as Zorro one last time.
It's a shame they didn't get a trilogy out of it.
After Hopkins, Banderas now playing Old Man Zorro, passing the legacy to the next gen, would have been fantastic.

Fairbanks did it in 1925...

and the 2005 Legend of Zorro, prety much set up for it.
(even further with the alt. ending).

Nice^, Toth with his clean high-contrast inks, gave Zorro such an elegant, definitive look.
