The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Video Game Thread - Part 1

If other studios could start making Spider-Man games that either exist in their own universe (ala Arkham) or start making games based on the comics (ala Ultimate Spider-Man) then I think we could, depending on which studio does it, start getting fantastic Spidey games.

They gotta get the formula for a good spiderman game down first. Good swinging(realistic), air tricks, wall tricks, parkour, wall running, spider agility, acrobatic manual movement(back-flips,somersaults, tumbles..etc),bottom of the swing mechanic from SM2(hold x and the bottom for MOMENTUM), free flow+ real combos(sm2 and sm3 quality), improved Spidersense that slows down time(SM2) and can scan an area(WOS) and buzzes when danger is close so that if you press the button you dodge in real time. Different web types and settings. Not just web bullets.....gosh. Web Strike( WOS) but improved. And costumes that actually do what they did in the comics. It's so annoying to play as the Scarlet Spider without IMPACT webbing. Huge run-on I know......shrugs.

I also really wouldn't mind if they made a linear game. I understand the appeal of open world especially with a character like Spider-Man, but if they made a linear game I'd feel slightly better because I can imagine the whole open world thing takes a huge chunk of development time. I mean, I love GTA V, but that game took 5+ years to make and every mission is about the same. I imagine 50%-75% of that development time was dedicated to the world.

I don't think this is going to be as good as you guys are hoping/expecting.

Eh, I'm good with these things. I was looking forward to TASM but I knew it wouldn't fulfill my true expectations for a Spidey game. That was a good one, I enjoyed it for what it was, but I sure as hell wasn't expecting it to be the next Arkham or anything.

We knew we were never going to get that. I'm sure Marvel see's what the bar is, so I hope they are really ambitious with what they want to do with these characters, particularily Spidey.

With Spider-Man there are so many video game possibilities, especially if the comic books are an influence.

I'm really looking forward to playing Infamous: Second Son and Watch Dogs to see how the open-world aspect would be done on next-gen.

As for GTA V, I don't think that is a good example. It has a fantastic open-world, but there are barely any skyscrapers and there isn't much focus on the higher parts of the map other than flying planes. It's a fine setting if you're playing as a thug going around doing things on the streets (which is essentially what GTA is all about), but it's not the same thing with a character like Spider-Man. Then there is the combat aspect. Other than the world and attention to detail, I don't think Rockstar can nail everything else (characterizations, combat, boss battles, etc.).

After some sleep, I've come to think that we shouldn't celebrate this just yet.

I have ZERO trust in Marvel when it comes to Spider-Man. They have treated him horribly the last few years. It feels like they don't care about him anymore now that Iron Man and the rest of The Avengers have become so popular.

Let's hope some AAA developer is interested in the property.

Wow. Activision sucks...what a bunch of idiots. They make the developers look bad.

i officially dislike them now
Spdey needs to go where he can be treated wih reverence

Wouldn't buy it then. I only buy open world Spidey games (and a lot of people I know think the same way).

I like Spidey open world games but I think there needs to be a balance between the indoor and outdoor stuff. The outdoor stuff should be detailed and we should be able to go inside certain buildings for missions too. It has to be equal.

Its hard to say with Marvel since they only have the comic book and animation rights. I wonder how they would do with a Spider-Man film, but who knows? I doubt Marvel would even come close to Sony's TSSM.

It would be really interesting if Rockstar, the developer for Grand Theft Auto, or Rocksteady, the developer for Batman Arkham City, got the license to make Spider-Man games.

I still want a Grand Theft Venom game, where we play as Big Venom in New York, hunting down Spider-Man and his friends.
