so, hypothetically speaking, if they butcher the uncle ben's killer storyline, and have him be cletus kassidy or a man who turns into a giant bear in a full moon, that is specific only to the game universe, and does not say anything about the movie canon, right?

Looks pretty similar to the first one. I enjoyed the first one though so I'm excited. :)

Your correct.:yay:

Right. The games are in their own universe. They're very loosely based on the events of the movies.

Best thing about the trailer is that, regardless of how good or bad it looks, we finally have something to talk about.

LET THE TALKING BEGIN!!

Uncle Ben's killer seemed a little bit too calm in TASM1 to be Cletus Cassidy.

If Vermin hadn't been in the first game it would have been cool to see a loose Kraven's Last Hunt angle. The killer could have been used as a test subject for Oscorp, using a rat cross-species serum on him. He would become Vermin, Kraven teaches Spider-man to be a better 'hunter' and they go after him.

It would be cool to play keep up with Kraven in a mission and maybe he helps you with missions. Just aslong as he's not just "there" giving BS speeches then it's a great concept

The last few games looked better than this does. Web of shadows looked awesome.

it's just, tasm's game universe is meant to follow the canon of tasm1, up to the end of the movie. everything in tasm1 game was not canon, and tasm2 is even more separate.

so, if they touch on the killer's identity, then wouldn't it have to be canonical to the first movie, as it is resolving something that is canonical?

uncle ben's killer was always person X, and the game universe treats the first movie as canon, so it doesn't follow that his killer could be person Y in the tasm2 game.

i'm struggling to make a coherent post here, but i hope you can see where i am coming from. having kraven show up, and cross species rhino, is all well and good, because they never appeared in the first movie, but uncle ben's killer did.

if they change his identity, then the game universe never followed tasm1's canon, as uncle ben's killer was part of the latter.

It has to be in the same continuity as the first game. Not the first movie. Just think of it as a universe where everything starts out similarly to the first film, but certain details are different and it eventually speeds off into an entirely different direction.

they have actually stated that the games follow the canon of the first movie, though.

but that is not reconcilable anymore, i don't think. i mean, they may keep the uncle ben killer plot a mystery, but if they don't, then tasm1 the game was following a non-existent version of tasm1 the movie.

I like that the super villains are connected to Oscorp, but I feel like the one character that shouldn't have anything to do with the whole conspiracy angle is Uncle Ben's killer.

gwen had never swung with spider-man in the tasm1 game, so all the more reason to treat these games as completely separate.

I think each video game adaption of the Raimi films were just their own stand-alone thing, right? I don't think they were considered part of a video game universe or anything.

it's just that the tasm1 game took place after the events of the first film, whereas the raimi games were their own interpretation of the movies they were based on.

if the tasm1 game followed the events of the movie, and had spider robots and cross species rhino, then there is no doubt it was its own thing.

but, it followed after the movie instead, and in doing so, beenox assured everyone that it treated the events of tasm1 as canon to their parallel universe (even though it took them a while to admit the parallel universe part)

so, in this game series, the history/canon is that peter fought lizard in the high school. he broke the basketball ring. he ate fish with gwen's family. he used bing. he broke captain stacy's promise.

ditto uncle ben's killer being person X.

so, IF they reveal who he is, and webb's universe goes on to give us a different answer, then it was never the case that the tasm1 game followed the canon of the first movie. otherwise, the identities would match up in both parallel universes.

it would be the same thing if this upcoming game dealt with the parent storyline. beenox shouldn't be dredging up unresolved aspects of the first movie, and if they must do this, then they should cut the bull and admit that their game series never followed the canon of the first movie.

I like how people disregard the nature of Beenox..... MOAR LIEK BEESUX!!!!!

... :P

I feel like if Webb has any secret plans to involve Uncle Ben's killer, the game isn't going to spoil it first. But then again who knows?

Anybody notice how in the trailer, Peter was dressed as TASM1 Peter? Haha
