...

All that aside I have to say I am enjoying this game though, love swinging around at night in the "big time" suit.

I enjoy it too it's just that I can't be bothered with playing it due to the hero or menace system. I'm kind of a karma system addict, if I see my heroic karma going below lvl 3 I have to refill it. That destroys the fun and I can't even explore the map or enjoy the swinging...

I really hope they add a patch that allows us to disable it or atleast a mod one day that freezes your karma. And I don't want to replay missions in order to freeroam without task force input, you still lose karma in the one mission that enables you to freeroam the city.

I am having fun.

Sure the story needs work, but gameplay wise, I have fun.

I just unlocked Miles' suit and I'm gonna use it through the whole game.

I really think everyone needs to go back and replay ASM1. While the web-slinging in ASM2 might be more fun, which again depends on the person, the combat alone got a downgrade. Sure, they added more stuff, like being able to web weapons to the ground, use seismic attacks, etc, but the combat itself is actually worse, and a lot more annoying, due to the different enemy types and Spidey being rather weak.

They removed a move, that really gave you an upper hand in the first game. The overhead flip. An utterly simple move, you jump over your enemy, and attack him from behind. Which was a great way to avoid an enemy's attack, and at the same time attack someone else. Now all you have is the web-strike.

Then we come to the actual missions. Complete and utter lack of imagination. The level design is a joke, and the mission structure is equally poor. ASM2 doesn't even feel like the same people worked on it.

The first game was indeed much more polished.

I do miss that.

This game is also polished. Mostly because I polished it with my polisher.

And I'm the one that constantly says give Beenox a chance. I don't know what happened though. Did they have even less time to work on this game, than they did on ASM1? Did their Studio get gutted and I simply didn't read about it? Because there's no way that the same people that worked on ASM1, also worked on this. Or was it just Activision being Activision again, cutting funds and telling Beenox to just deliver something that's playable.

Activision being Activision. They outright tell their non-COD studios to target metacritic 60 or below.
Still 110% certain that if you give Beenox a proper AAA budget and no forced release date they'd deliver a hell of a game in ~3-4 years worth of time. Wonder why games like e.g. GTA are successful? I'd argue that it's not just someone like Rockstar Games being good devs but overall the fact that they have seemingly infinite budget (GTA V costing what... 250mil $?) and time to release their titles. They don't even announce their games until they're ready to do so and even then they still take another 2 years to release them.
It's all about having passion for the franchise (I'd argue Beenox has that) in combination with time and money. Beenox lacks the latter because Activision gon' Activision & movie release is fixed.

They probably had less time to work on this game, yes.

Also, Dee Brown isn't creative director, anymore. That's most likely another reason for the game coming out a little... Lesser.

So...does Marvel/Disney own the rights to make a comic book Spider-man game? Because they said very recently that they want to make an Avengers game but are just waiting for the right developer for it. They said they won't make an Avengers game unless it's a great game.

The studio refuses to phone it in on The Avengers after learning hard lessons.
TQ Jefferson, Marvel’s head of games, explained that a game based on The Avengers must be done right, and have the proper time to achieve its goals, if it’s going to happen at all.
“The Avengers game will come when we have the right partner, that has the right vision, that has the time to develop a strong, competitive triple-A title and wants to do it right”
To that end, Jefferson said, “I think the fact that there wasn’t an Avengers game turned out in time for the film is indicative of Marvel’s new attitude and the approach to how we find partners and build games. I think in the heyday of the movie licensed game, these games were popping out all the time and most of them sucked.”
