push the graphics - spidey games have never been known for their visuals and it is a shame.
Visuals in Shattered Dimensions and EoT are pretty decent
And for a PS2 game Ultimate Spider-Man has pretty nice visuals

And they never will. Of course Spidey games will continue to get 'better looking' as the technology improves but Spidey's games will never look quite as good as most other games because so much of the processing power has to be used to allow for Spider-man's unique mobility. I'd rather have a smooth fast-paced moving Spider-man with lesser graphics than one with superb graphics and choppy gameplay.

I think Amazing Spider-Man paved way for it, not making Spider-Man move as fast as previous free roam games, still in quite some fluid motion

eh Gears of War has a pretty fluid style of play, graphics are top notch, i think its more due to the short development times they get on these games.

He moves just as fast as previous open world games. The visuals look better in ASM because they shrunk the size of the city. This allows the processor to be dedicated to other things. SM3 looks awful and has a giant NYC. Scale back the city and they were able to create better visuals.

GoW is nothing like Spidey though. Spider-man is unique in that he can be ground level or be 100 stories up in the air. He can zip off in any direction with great speed. The processor has to be able to allow this kind of motion with smooth gameplay and everything you add to the game takes more power away from the speed of the chip. Development time is not really an issue...they spent over two years working on ASM and ASM is by far the best visually looking Spidey game. His mobility will always be an issue when it comes to the graphical power of the game. Like I said, his games will always get better looking as the tech improves but because of his unique abilities, the games will always be a step or two behind the likes of GTA, RDR, etc.

Older free roam games did make his motion faster, at least in combat
Spider-Man 3 city looks alright, not awful

just cause 2 managed spider-man like mobility and good graphics.

lol at us discussing a game that hasn't been announced yet and may not even exist :)

Funny enough apparently Avalanche Studios is already working on a comic book based game for next-gen consoles. No idea what it is though, I don't think it's been announced yet.

Interesting
They worked with Eidos, I bet it's a DC character, maybe a Wildstorm one

You guys think this game will be set post-TASM2 like the last one was after TASM?

Because personally, if it followed the story TASM game would have been incredibly better.

I was only referencing his mobility during free roam. I apologize if there was some confusion.

It's why I'd like to see Avalanche studios work on a Spidey game

That would be cool, but prob not gonna happen anytime soon. Beenox is more than likely going to produce the movie-tie games. Comic based though, we might see another developer step in.

Don't worry, I had to clear what I meant

After the Activision contract ends, if they don't renew it

What's the point of the game following the story of the movie? I can watch the movie. I don't need to play it. TASM (and other games) are making the right choice by giving us another story to coincide with the movie. The game is boring otherwise.

They're gonna make a game for the sequel for sure. I'll assume by Beenox again.
Whatever it is, I hope they work on improvements, and more control of the webbing!
I guess you can't satisfy everyone..

Movie based games always spoil movies, it doesn't matter that much if they rewrite the movie and add other stuff to it, as long as its fun to play. Movie game stories don't matter that much

Avengers and TDK agree to that

It matters to me, dammit!!!! :o:oldrazz:

Seriously, it's not that difficult to make a great Spider-Man game. The development team always seems to have these grand ideas and then somewhere, some how, they totally miss the target!

All they have to do is visit a site, like this one, read the wish list and implement it in some way.

Beenox should really be aiming to blow us away with the next ASM game. I mean, ASM was a good testing ground, and introduced some new elements (Web Rush is one of the best things to ever be in an SM game) but it was unfortunately lacking in a lot of areas too. I hope they can learn from the feedback and give us a real, great quality game

It's not that easy. Spider-Man's way of transportation and moves are very, very complicated.

Just take a boss fight like the first big robot in ASM. Would it even work to have that one with SM2 web swinging? At the same time, SM2 web swinging otherwise is much more fun (IMO). One would think "Hey we could have both", well that wouldn't make any logical sense why physics would apply in one setting but not in the other.

And so on. I think a Spider-Man game must be a nightmare for a dev team!

The problem with Amazing Spider-Man is, they did just that

Meh, I don't know about that. I think yeah maybe to an extent they did. However, they poorly executed whatever they were trying to achieve. People asked for random crimes yet we got like a total of three and rehashed them...

I wouldn't put Amazing Spider-Man up there with the likes of Spider-Man 2, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man... etc

Combat wise, I think is the only thing Amazing got right.

Amazing Spider-Man is one of three games, or maybe four, to give good combat moves for Spidey
