The Art of Civility Revisited

I don't like to create new threads, its not my style. Probably, because I fear people will criticize my English or because I think they won't be important enough. But it really makes me sad to see all this divisions in regards to SR and now MOS. People have all the right to like whatever they like, but I think sometimes we have crossed the line ( yes, including me, a lot of times ) and we have been very aggressive or can't respect others opinion.

We have lots of examples of different attacks: If you like SR you are not a true Superman fan, you didn't like SR because you didn't understand it, you liked SR because it was the first Superman in a long time and you were desperate to see it on the big screen, and so on.

One thing, I think we all can agree about, is that we all are Superman fans and love the character. At least for me, he is like a role model sometimes, to try to do the right thing and help people if its on my possibilities. When I'm sad and depressed I sit down on my couch and watch some of the old or new movies to cheer me up. Superman is bigger than all the movies, TV shows, or even the comic books, he is an example of the way we should try to be.

From now on, I'll try to more tolerant and be more respectful with all the people on the Superman boards, hope you guys can agree with me.

Now, here's a video I just found, that I'm sure most people will like, because we all love Superman, the world's greatest hero.

it will never change, it never has, and never will. One must learn to deal, and ignore that which pisses you off, and to choose battles wisely. Such is life in the superman board, where everyone is examining SR, and what it means for a sequel under the largest magnifying glass ever conceived of. Almost 6 years now, and I count this as the hundredth 'can't we all just get along' thread.

I think truly what this forum needs to do is start to work together. I mean it has been said over and over that Singer and some of the cast members do visit this board and with MOS all but confirmed why don't we give suggestion to Singer on how we would like to see things handled for example Superman, Lois and Jason, or the villain(s) we would like to see, how the suit should look, etc. Why not come together and start helping instead of bashing.

Thanks for the YouTube link nintendo nerd.

Always appreciate any Superman efforts that acknowledge the George Reeves TV series. IMO his portrayal of both Superman and Clark Kent is the best to date.

You are of course correct, many times the posts become cut fights. We should all practice respect for our fellow Superman fans when discussing differences of opinion.

I would have to agree that Reeves is the best.

I don't think there are any Superman haters on this board. It's just that everyone doesn't agree on SR and we wan the next SUperman film to be the best it can possibly be.[/quote]

You are right mego, I don't think that there are Superman haters, but there are SR haters and SR fans, which is very different IMO.

That's a great idea, but one fans 'help' is another fans 'bash.'

Gah, you want me to watch it again?!?
Lets see, neutral on opening with Krypton exploding but why use the old footage and why the extended naked boy shot I've hated since I first saw it.
Then trying to have the video reflect all the lyrics of that very un-superman-like song just means that you can't have the video telling it's own story.
Hate lois and clark.
Did I mention I hate that song? Because I do.

seriously, R+B and Superman... it's worse than the musical influence on Smallville

I'm not going to write off R&B, but that'd have to be some F'N amazing R&B.

No, this is to Superman prime don’t call people who love the character but not SR a joke. What is the point you are trying to make? If you like the movie so much watch it. But why most YOU call people a JOKE. It is like when the Guard said people on this board who did not like SR should be shot

Only buggs and phil, not all people in this board. They are both trolls, reason why they are trolls is because they flamed people on this board. Like yesterday, Phil flamed Showtime in other thread. Buggs called some of us a asskisser of Bryan and gotten himself banned. Think about it.

I don't think there are any Superman haters on this board. It's just that everyone doesn't agree on SR and we wan the next SUperman film to be the best it can possibly be.

Yeah, there aren't any Superman haters, I understand they don't like SR. Agree or disagree about Superman Returns, but they should've not make any flame on people who love Superman Returns, like Buggs... before he got banned.

EDIT: Oops! I accidently said "Superman Haters". I meant Superman Returns haters. My apologise.

He was a more realistic Clark Kent, right? Not as bumbling as Reeve's or Routh's?

Yes. He was not a caricature, nor over the top. Simply a 'mild- mannered reporter' who tried to cover up the hero inside with misdirection as best he could.

I wouldn't use the word 'realistic,' because his Clark was basically Superman with glasses, IMO. There was no big difference in the way he played both personas, therefore that version requires A LOT of suspension of disbelief, like Dean Cain's version, for instance. Besides, this version of the character is very simplistic and onedimensional, but still a lot of fun for its time. George was indeed a good actor with charisma in the role.

I think Routh's Clark was actually better than both Reeve's and Reeves'

^Agreed, he seemed to fade into the background more, and actually made it slightly plausible that most people wouldnt instantly recognise him. Only slightly plausible though :cwink:.

I agree with that. Routh was a balance between Cain, Reeves and Reeve. He was great.

Routh had a very wonderful balance. He wasn't too bumbling like Reeve's. Although Reeve played Clark Kent tremendously and added so much too it. I just don't think you can play that kind of Clark Kent in today's world.

I'm glad Singer went the way he did with Routh

Just curious.......... besides Mostpowerful and Showtime, who based on their posts seem to be Goerge Reeves knowledgeable..........have the other posters watched the 50s TV series?

Nintendo nerd, the episodes are available on DVD in "season" sets. Not that it's my place to be telling someone what they should or should not do:yay:, but if you are a Superman fan, and you haven't seen them, especially the first season collection, then you are missing out on some pretty good stuff.
