This is my impression of the order in which the Avengers films should be watched in order to follow a loose sense of continuity. There will be a couple questions raised, I discuss a few of them in the blog post.
Feel free to discuss and debate!

The Incredible Hulk
---stop before Tony Stark cameo
The Consultant
Thor
---stop before the scene of people trying to remove Mjolnir from the ground.
Iron Man 2
---stop after Agent Coulson leaves to go on a trip.
A Funny Thing Happened on the way to Thor's Hammer

Fairly sure sections of the Incredible hulk are concurent with Iron Man 2, unless that was just old news footage that was playing in the background.

Actually the scene of the Frost Giant invasion of Earth that left the Cosmic Cube in Norway from Thor was set in 965 AD, so that's first.

That and the scene of Odin talking to young Thor & Loki I'm pretty sure occurred long before any of the other Avengers were ever born as well.
