The Avengers The Avengers re-named in the UK ..........

It's a stupid thing to do IMO, but there are also stupid people out there.

A guy on a local forum I use went on a huge rant recently about how Hollywood insist on recreating all these TV shows from the 60s and 70s, quoting 'Avengers' as one of them. I had to explain carefully to him that it's an entirely different thing derived from comic books.

It's not a change that they would have made a whim. I'm assuming there is definitely a copyright issue involved

After seeing "Avengers Assemble" show at the end of the trailer, i don't care what it's called... The Avengers... Marvel's The Avengers... Avengers Assemble... I'll be there April 26th several times.

Its like renaming Batman to "Flying mouse man" in Norway.

Can't believe they've done this to an iconic title.

But The Avengers is more iconic than Marvel's The Avengers here. When you think of the swinging 60s in the UK you think of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Doctor Who and The Avengers.

They would probably make more money in the UK with an actual Avengers movie than Marvel's Avengers

There was an Avengers movie back in 1998, with Ralph Finnes as Steed and Uma Thurman as Emma Peel, with Sean Connery as a bad guy who controls the weather. It was bad.

Yes, the movie was really bad, not even Sean Connery was able to "rescue" it. The TV series was iconic that's true. You cannot compare the movie to the series, no way.

the whole thing is just moronic, sorry but the only connection they have is chicks in catsuits.

i can maybe understand if you only heard the name but one you see a poster its not confusing

I think people are being a bit dramatic about this. It's an extra word. It's not like it's an entirely recut version of the movie.

As previously stated, it's probably just a legal thing because of the (incredibly fantastic) television show "The Avengers" featuring John Steed and Emma Peel.

You don't have to take it personally.

I don't think it has to do with confusing people, i think it's a legal thing.

But yea, The Avenger Initiative sounds sooooo much better.

Seriously, someone needs to get in contact with Marvel and tell them the title "Avengers Assemble" is laughable.

It is laughable. They could have at least tried "Marvel's The Avengers" or something like that. It's a shame that no one is likely to get in touch with the people at Marvel responsible for this to persuade them for the better.

That's what I thought Marvel were going to do originally in the UK, with most people not really reading the "Marvel's" bit.

Or they could've just called it "Avengers" with no definite article. I think in the UK people think of the entire phrase "The Avengers" with the definite article when thinking of the British 60s series.

If you just put "Avengers" it could be easily be something different to Steed and Mrs Peel. It also makes them sound less like a team and just a function of what they do.

To be honest i'm not really too bothered with the title, after seeing that trailer yesterday, it could be called anything, and i'll still be going to see it

They should have called it Super Best Friends. Or Serenity 2.

lol South Park owns that trademark lol

Too bad Comedy Central banned that episode because they showed Mohammad as a superhero. That epidsode was made back in the good old days before the world went to poo. :csad:

I dunno. Though it will always be a part of the UK's cultural identity in some respect, it hasn't been around really for a long time (even if the stars are still around here and there). I don't see that many people confusing the two seriously.

Avengers, Marvel The Avengers or any other variation, it would still be better than Avengers Assemble which is clearly more a catchphrase than a fitting title.

What if he was talking about the Avengers movie with Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman though?

I agree with the comments it is a stupid name change for us here in the uk and im not looking foward to seeing it in the title sequence! one word cheesy!

Thank you. Thank you for being a beacon of logic in a needless storm of dumb.

I actually understand the change to a degree given that I've talked about this movie for months in work and the same guy is always crakcing the same 'whose playing Steed in this one?' so-called-joke whenever I say 'The Avengers'. Dumb or not, the old Avengers tv series is still remembered by some; worse still is that the more recent and thouroughly awful Fiennes/Thurman effort is remembered also.

What I dont like is what they've changed it to. 'Avengers Assemble' should be the blurb on the poster, not the title of the movie.

Wouldn't just having it be blocked as Marvel's Avengers be enough?

This could be called Iron Man and friends and I wouldn't give a damn. This film looks bananas! Can't wait.
