Sci-Fi Stranger Things (Netflix) - Part 1

Stranger Things has probably had more promotions and merch than any other movie or show I can think of in the last decade with the exceptions maybe being Jurassic World, Frozen and Wicked.

saw a Tide commercial and thought what the hell?

Sounds fun, lol. I hate final seasons because it's usually a free for all in popular character exits. :p

Low-key funniest moment of the series. That reaction from Mike…

The Domino's commercials were fun.

I don't know what they're using to film this season, but it literally looks like it was filmed in the late 80s and I'm loving it. Doesn't look as glossy or HD as other Netflix shows.

Im sure it's going to be fantastic . :D

Just finished Season 5, Volume 1:

YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!! WILL THE MOTHERF**KING WISE!!!!! HOLY S**T!!!!!! SO GODD**N HYPE!!!!!

They did it!!! Those motherf**kers finally f**king did!!!! What a long time coming! And I love that the way Will was able to mentally and emotionally unlock his powers was by completely accepting himself, and from the encouragement of Robin no less. So cathartic! Also, loved Will and Robin’s interactions in these four episodes in general. Hopefully he gets to shoot some fireballs before the series is over.

You know, it’s funny, before they said who they were holding in that base, my mind went straight to Kali/Eight before they mentioned Henry/Vecna/One and I started second-guessing myself. Then, a few seconds after seeing Hopper’s expression as he let’s El in through the door and Vecna’s shape through the gate, I knew who it was, since she’s the only other powered person we know of other than El and Vecna.

They finally give Holly something to do this season by making her an active participant in the proceedings, and I actually really like her character and the new actress they got to play her. Her interactions with Max in Henry’s mind prison were also really good. And she has that Wheeler grit and those smarts. I guess apparently Ted’s genes, just like himself, just gave up and didn’t even bother. :hehe:

Also, it’s amazing how they’re able to introduce these new characters and endear you to them after only a little screen time. Initially, I found Derek to be a fairly grating little s**t and got pretty close to wondering why they even introduced this character in the first place and finally being done with him, but by the time he’s helping to smuggle the kids out of the military camp, I was actively rooting for him to succeed. :funny:

The wait for Volume 2 is going to be so excruciating.

Watched all four last night.

It's way more streamlined and focused compared to season 4 doing a balancing plates act since everyone is back in Hawkins. That said, it's not grabbing me the same way that S4 did but there's still half the season to go.

The opening of episode 2 was wild, even though it was pretty farfetched that Karen survived that. Obviously they weren't going to kill both Wheeler parents but I'm shocked they both survived. Ted really should have been a goner. :o

I love what they're doing with Max. Figured something like that was coming. You can't keep Sadie Sink sidelined for long.

I wasn't as invested in the Eleven and Hopper storyline as everything else but it's always fun to see Linda Hamilton (even if it would have made more sense had they not killed off Brenner last season and just made him the human big bad but I digress). I was actually relieved to see Eight in that room in episode 4 because I had been saying for years that they'd bring her back since even though S2E7 is no one's favorite episode, I was starting to think they had abandoned her entirely after two seasons of nothing, not counting seeing a younger Eight in Eleven's flashbacks in S4.

I didn't know this show needed a Robin/Will friendship pairing but it was one of the strongest points of Vol. 1. Speaking of Will, I loved the ending of him having newfound powers and how they were unlocked.

I'm anxiously anticipating the remainder of the season.

Gonna watch the next two later tonight. I find it hilarious that Netflix didn't anticipate the crush of viewers for such a popular show, lol.
It always happens whenever there's a timed event. Curious how the next drops for the rest of the season will be. I'm assuming the finale on New Year's Eve will drop at a similar time but I wonder how they're doing the Christmas Day episodes.

I wonder if they rescue her and save her that Holly will be involved with her older siblings in taking down Vecna. She and her mom now have common experience with Mike and Nancy and Karen now has something in common with Joyce. I too wonder if Karen will also join in the final fight, mostly to protect her kids but also she's no longer oblivious to these monsters.

Karen and Holly and also the father were oblivious to these monsters for four seasons. Now that Karen and Holly have seen one up close, I would think that both would get involved more once Karen is able to and Holly is saved.

I thought she had severe enough injuries to believably need hospitalization but not so much that she couldn’t conceivably pull through with a lot of recovery. Whatever the case, she’s definitely going to be left with some long lasting physical and emotional scars/damage.

While I do somewhat agree you and wasn’t invested in the El/Hopper storyline as much as the others, I think they gave just enough to hook us to not leave us thinking our time was completely wasted. Now with 8 in the picture and Will now unlocking his full potential, El is really going to come back to the forefront and get a whole lot more to do going forward. And I think Dustin is going to be motivated by this new development to finally come out of his funk and utilize his smarts to fully realize his ideas, plans and knowledge of the Upside Down with the help their psychic friends/allies.

I wonder if they rescue her and save her that Holly will be involved with her older siblings in taking down Vecna. I think all signs are pointing to that being the case. Like Lucas pointed out, the circumstances under which she was taken and is being held captive are very similar to Will’s experience 4 years ago. Mike in the first episode called her “Holly the Heroic” and said her character had the ability to open dimensional doors and cast protection spells. And over 3 episodes later, Will, in the same volume, also unleashes his full potential? That’s not a coincidence.

Funnily enough, all four of our existing and potential powered younger main characters each have a core ability that Vecna possesses. El typically moves things with her mind. 8 can create convincing illusions. Will can control, possess and break other beings with his mind. And Holly, potentially, will be able to create gates between the real world and the Upside Down.

They’re giving us pretty much everything we wanted and giving our characters what seems like a fighting chance, which makes me worried that it’s a false or temporary victory that’s luring us and our characters into thinking they have a chance at winning against Vecna and something is going to horribly turn and not go the way we think it is. We still haven’t seem that one snippet from the very first teaser of Will going “RUN!!!!!!” in this season yet.
