That was very different though. Smallville was about a young Clark before he put on the costume and became a superhero. The Flash series is going to be about Barry as the full-fledged Flash, costume and all fighting crime and his rogues. For all intents and purposes it'll be the same exact version of Flash on tv and in the movies being played by two actors. Unless, theyre going with Wally or something.

Ok here we go... My explanation for Flash's suit.

-As I mentioned, when Barry runs he emits electricity. The faster he runs the more he gives off. This can be quite dangerous to by standers if he full out gets it. So at first he doesn't know this when he learns his powers and he finds out by watching the news that several people where "injured" by a zooming lighting ball.

-Like in the 90s series he meets someone at STAR LABS to help with this condition, so the person shows him the "Storm Solider Suit." The purpose of the suit was originally for storm researchers who could skydive into a thunder storm with the suit on and actually be struck by lightning and be unharmed to collect data. The yellow parts of the suit are metal to attract the lightning. Like everything else the Army wants to utilize this and use it for soldiers so they can parajump through storms and surprise the enemy, where as a regular parajumper could not.

This suit is the "Storm soldier suit"

But use THIS mask in place of the one above.

Also at first the mouth area is not open. It has a mouth breather that fits over the enitre mouth opening for high altitude jumps. Like so.

-Now, Barry with the suit on tests it out. The metal on the suit acts as a conductor and attracts the electricity that Barry puts out and keeps it from shooting all over the place. Even the swooshes (or whatever they are called) can still be kept to please the fanboys. So while Barry is running he starts to get dizzy and slows down and almost passes out. He figures out that the oxygen mask is restricting the air flow to his mouth and takes JUST THE MOUTH BREATHER PORTION OFF that way we get the classic mask.

He tries it again and to the STAR LABS employees surprise Barry doesn't get bombarded with bugs or anything in the air because when Barry is running his aura is electrified so anything little this like so that comes close to his skin is zapped allowing him the air he needs and the protection from bugs and such.

So one day he saves someone with the suit on because if he REALLY runs in anything else it burns off and the person said someone came in like a flash of lighting. So being the fanboy that Barry is he puts the logo on the suit in honor of his hero growing up Jay Garrick, the worlds fastest Olympic sprinter from his childhood.

So what do you think? And feel free to be as harsh as you want I'm grown I can handle it lol.

I like the explanation for the suit but then I don't because then we run into a Scott Summers ordeal where he can't use his powers unless he has the suit.

He can still use them. The electricity only becomes dangerous if hes going FULL OUT. So if he has to do something he can just do it a bit slower lol.

What if an emergency doesn't allow for him to just take it slow?
Besides if I was the flash (Yes, I think about this all the time...) I wouldn't just take it easy, I would almost always being challenging myself to see if I could do something faster, etc. Everything seems so slow to him already so he would never want to take it easy, he wants to get it over with because it's boring to him.
It was a nice thought but I for one am not a fan of the idea, sorry. :csad:

I like the idea presented in this fan film.
http://youtu.be/tEYCxrbXdX4?t=11m12s
It's incredibly cheesy but I like that the first couple times he uses his powers he could end up stranded, not necessarily in the desert but maybe in another country or something. It could be funny, show the extent of his powers, and not limit him in the process by hurting someone.

Well thanks for the feedback anyways bro. Yeah hes got to do that at least once or twice lol.

I'm cool with Gustin as Flash on film for now. Could be better but could be a lot worse...I think he'll do fine, he's serviceable enough. (and heck no to making him a d-bag a la Andrew Garfield) Who knows if it will happen though.

And they probably will combine elements of all the Flashes as they did with GL in the GL film....could turn out to be a good thing, could also turn out to be a really bad thing. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

Flash is my favorite super hero by far, and is nearly invincible. He's a very hard egg to crack so don't sweat it. :cwink:

Everyone just always takes the easy way out when adapting him by having him make constant errors, unlike all the other heroes who are 99% of the time at the top of their game.

If he wasn't portrayed so poorly all the time, facing all of his rogues at once would look like Faora attacking all the soldiers in Man of Steel, effortless.

The challenge is finding a villain that can actually beat Flash.
He has super strength through kinetic energy, practically time stopping speed, can vibrate through objects, rapid healing, precognitive reaction timing, and can literally tear apart matter at a molecular level.

I probably still missed a few of his abilities, but you get the idea, he's a very tough character to write.

Also his costume looks great on paper but is tricky to adapt to live action.

I like your characterization. I think that a movie focusing on the speed-force is the way to go with the Flash. It allows the writer(s) to get creative with threats and characterizations. It allows means that even though he lives in a universe with other superheroes, they can help in that space.

It would be really weird and incredibly disrespectful to Grant Gustin if they suddenly cast someone else to play in the movies. He just received critical acclaim for his portrayal as Barry in Arrow and he's about to headline a whole series based on the Flash, casting someone else for the DCU movies would be like "huh?".

I highly doubt he'd have any problems with someone else being Flash on the big screen.

Honestly I get the impression that Flash's suit, like Spidey's, could probably be directly adapted to live action surprisingly easily.

And though I would love to see Gustin as Flash and connect the DCCU with Arrow/Flash. If they don't got that route (which no matter how much I want them to, I don't think they will) I would be ok, though slightly disappointed with seeing another actor play Flash on film.

I just started listening to The Flash: Stop Motion on GraphicAudio and it's awesome to hear them talk about the physics behind Flash's powers.

I highly recommend it and other GraphicAudio books too.

I actually think while I look forward to the day that Flash will be in live action, in a film preferably, that he doesn't need to be in this film IMO and should be saved for the Justice League movie which Henry, Ben and Gal will be in. I think this should be a Superman/ Batman movie with the guest appearance of Wonder Woman. Not try to cram in the whole Justice League. There's no way you can do justice to all those amount of characters.

You lost me at "skydive into a thunderstorm".

That's almost as silly as a bridge-building jumping tank.

This. The Flash's suit has to be the easiest suit to make…easer than Spider-man's because it requires all that webbing.

If Spider Man's costume, or Thor's costume, or Loki's costume, or Captain America's costume, or Superman's costume can be successfully adapted for live action, then I fail to see how Flash's is so "tricky."

Flash's design doesn't need to change for a movie.

They just need to get the right material/texture to the suit and the right shades of red/yellow.

New 52 version is my preference; a suit that lights up and crackles with electricity.

perhaps the MOS suit material with little to no texture, and just add the yellow/gold details?

The Flash has a costume that's so perfectly designed it's second only to Spider-Man's...and even that is debatable. It's one of the few suits that are pretty much absolutely perfect and complete the way it is. It was like made for TV and movies when it was created in the comics practically. They'd really be dropping the ball if they try and change it.

You are speaking the justice ! Flash's powers are so much fun in the comics, boy did I love the "Human race" storyline, weird but heaps of fun.
And three words......infinite-mass-PUNCH !

You're absolutely right that writers take an easy path by having a very powerful hero make a lot of mistakes....kind of like how Superman usually lets his opponents hit him first, he's another character with immense power, who gets smacked around by far less mighty foes.
However, he's an alien, so the whole Clark Kent thing is really his best approximation of humanity.

But the Flash is human, I actually like that Barry (and Wally) stuff up a lot, and they're rarely on top of their game (Byrne used to do that to Supes back in the 80's and I thought it worked amazingly) .

It's what's always made the Flash so human and so enjoyable - he takes a lot of crap, and just deals with it. Definitely one of DC's greatest characters (you don't see Quicksilver carrying his own book ) the whole rogues gallery and all the time travel stuff, and of course the flash being dead for 25 years, gives the stories a richness that's easily on par with Bats or Supes or GL.

We love the Flash, because no matter what happens he's just a really nice guy who does the best he can to help out. He screws up, but doesn't give up, and that's what makes him such a beloved character.

I agree with everyone who says its really hard to translate the costume from the comic book to the screen ( I used to watch the TV show as a kid, and it just never looked right).

I would like to see Flash putting bunny ears behind the President in the MOS sequel like he did in Dark Knight Strikes Again.

These have probably already been recommended, but for me these three are the ones I'd want for Flash/Barry Allen

Hellrider: I guess Chris Pine is the best out of your three suggestions :)

Gyllenhaal is more GL material
