Exactly. That single sequence has sold me harder on this iteration of Batman more than anything else.

Do we know who's been doing his training? Because you can't turn up on set and hit that hard, that fast, but not hurt the stuntman or yourself, without some serious unarmed combat chops.

I don't remember his name, but he was training a while back with a fight trainer in LA who's worked with a lot of actors for movies.

Rigan Machado, he also trained Keanu Reeves for John Wick, Pattinson got Jiu-Jitsu lessons with him in 2018 and Machado confirmed in a now deleted Instagram post that they were training for The Batman as well

Oh s**t, really?

That's such a good choice. Machado trained under the Gracies in BJJ.

Not surprised that Pattinson is training with people with MMA background. That's exactly the kind of person you want for the job. Batman should essentially be Georges St Pierre in a Batsuit.

I don't know if it's been discussed, but this trailer has me thinking that they've combined Riddler and Hush.
Nah, it’s more like they’ve given Riddler the hook of being a theatrical, ritualistic serial killer like BTK and Zodiac. A killer with his own weird fetish and “motivation”, who takes time to create his macabre displays and toys with law enforcement/Batman. His look with the sack/wrap over his head with glasses on top seems to be taken right from the Zodiac killer.

Sounds weird, but I am a big “serial killer” buff and I’m fascinated by many of the infamous real life killers and their cases. This is already an excellent looking version of the Riddler for me that I’ve wanted to see for a long time.
It's the "you'll see" line at the end, along with the mask that's got me thinking that the Riddler is going to be personally connected to Bruce Wayne in the same way that Hush was. I'm probably way off the mark.

Have watched the trailer five times. I can't get enough of it. Love the "SEV7EN" John Doe meets the Zodiac Killer-vibes to the Riddler. Love the shots of Pattinson in the Bat suit and owning members of Joker's gang. Love that shot of Colin Farrell completely unrecognizable as The Penguin. We're really in for a treat.

I'm still on the fence about Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon though. I would've loved more someone like Bryan Cranston for the role and Wright as Lucius Fox or Crispus Allen, but hey... bring this baby on. Let's go.

That you could be right about. We’ll see.

The Dark Knight Rises?

Batman Forever seemed to have a bit of a draft going on, too. :p All those papers constantly flying around.

Totally forgot about Dark Knight Rises. I guess because it doesn't start out like that but it counts and it was good

Hush and Riddler merged would be interesting but don't think I'd like that and would prefer them being separate

I think given Reeves' comments, if it's a very personal story for Bruce and there's something about his past, maybe it involves his parents. Maybe Edward was an orphan like Bruce and they knew each other except Edward wasn't rich and something bad happened to him in the process. Maybe he knows that Bruce is Batman. He even says, "From your secret friend."

Seems like maybe Riddler could be a victim as much a perpetrator which is a thing you see in noir. He could be the product of what Gotham has become.

I’ve been thinking it’s possible that Riddler isn’t the killer, but following behind the killer and leaving his clues on top of the crime scenes for his own reasons - Gas-Mask-Goggle Dude is the one killing people and leaving the “No More Lies” messages in red, while the Riddler cards and voice over stuff is Eddie’s. The two men could be making opposite points - with Riddler lording his initially greater knowledge over everyone.

If, say, the serial killer is acting out against people he thinks are part of the Court of Owls, or if we’ve got some kind of Tell-Tale situation where the Waynes are connected to a dark secret, then it’s possible that Riddler might know Bruce is Batman and this is connected to the killings, and perhaps even a future target - thus, instead of “your secret friend” being the usual serial killer creepiness, it might be an actual “helping hand” offered by a villain for his own delight.

Riddler as a Seven-style serial killer is a fun idea, but not as appealing to me as Riddler having solved a Seven-style serial killer case and intentionally letting the killings continue while making it clear he knows who it is as part of his own psychosis.

Yeah I could see a twist like that. Either way would be fine to me but you may be on to something

Y’all are losing me any time you mention Court of Owls. As much as I love Snyder and Capullo’s run, y’all are making mountains out of molehills. The owl might be there as a nod but we aren’t getting the court in this film.

Wow, the trailer has this positioned to be the most accurate Batman movie to date.

I'm thinking Riddler has forced Batman and GCPD into a reluctant alliance. I'm guessing the crime scene at the beginning of the trailer requires the GCPD to contact Batman, who has traditionally been a vigilante they've worked against, so they get imaginative and create the bat-signal as a means to get in touch with him...and he shows up, and they're forced into an uneasy truce in a mutual goal to stop the Riddler.

Matt Reeve's brought me back to the forums. I cannot stop watching that trailer, and I don't I've ever even watched the first couple BvS trailers this many times already. The tone and setting of this world is exactly what I wanted for a Batman story. Incredibly grateful that Matt took over this project with Rob to start a whole separate deal, while Ben sounds like things are in a great place should he want to continue with our DCEU stories. Also, massive shout out to Michael Giacchino for expanding on the theme we first heard awhile back. I created a couple rock versions of it on YouTube if anyone is interested lol.

The Court’s cypher being used simply as a complex code only Batman can crack would be a pretty good tease of them without going full-Court (ha-ha!) for now - imagine Bruce revealing to Alfred he deciphered it as a kid while looking to blame the Court for his parents’ death, didn’t find the answers he wanted, but can now put the knowledge to good use.

You could even just have Bruce casually address it as something he knows has some basis in fact, like Riddler, because of the Cypher, but he’s not hunting them specifically yet because the cypher is all that’s left... for now.

Dead on. A friend of mine said he was surprised to see such a young Batman working with GCPD but I noted how the murder scene had his name on the card, so it was nearly required that he show up to see if he actually knew anything that would help Gordon and the team.

That would actually be a really cool twist and makes some sense.

Cause I mean really, if you think about it...if it's just as simple as The Riddler committing all the murders and it's all at face value, where's the mystery in that?
