The best decade for the X-Men?

I hated that they made her Magneto's daughter...even though a past story proved she wasnt

I hated that at first but pretty much am used to it now. I'd hate for them to retcon that now ad I kinda doubt they will

I believe her original origin was she was from the Savage Land. Zaladane and her are sisters...Zaladane...Lorna Dane.....its also why Zala was able to take her powers and use them.

Well thats not her original origin as the Zaladane connection was only added in the late 80s, nearly 20 years after Lorna debuted. It was never actually explored beyond the surface level and with Zaladane dying soon after this claim, it pretty much hasnt been brought up since. Besides being Magneto's daughter doesnt erase this. She could still be Lorna's half sister via her mother

I loathe Quietly art on X-Men as well.
Joe Casey was fighting an uphill battle with Uncanny X-Men when he wrote it. First, he was going up against Grant Morrison on New X-Men, which Marvel touted as the primary book. Over time UXM was viewed as the inferior book.

Second, the bigger characters were off limits because they were in New X-Men. At first Marvel promoted the relaunch as having Scott, Jean and Logan in both books but soon, Casey was given Nightcrawler, Archangel and Banshee. Folks like Gambit, Psylocke, Bishop ect were off- limits because Marvel wanted to get away from the 90's characters. Claremont ended up with most of them as sort of a severance package due to him being dumped from UXM in favor of Morrison.
Thats just stupid I can't really understand why they would want to push aside some of the most popular characters from the 90s. I know Marvel likes introducing new mutants each decade but shoving aside charcters that were popular and sold comics isn't a smart business decision.

I didn't mind that. I know in her origin they teased the idea before saying she isn't and then she was.

I would actually like to see more of Lorna brought more into the Lehnsherr-Maximoff family. I would like more interaction with Lorna and her siblings. I know Lorna is close with Pietro from their X-Factor days it would be cool to see Wanda and Lorna spend some time together.

Has it ever been explained who Lorna's real mother is?

I know Magneto has had his share of women over the years.

Look out for Legacy bc it looks like Carey will be answering most if not allof these questions

The sales were declining hard and fast at this time after they were unable to capitalize on the success of the first X-Men movie. Quesada made he decision to reboot the franchise with a big name like Morrison at the helm. Claremont was pissed about getting removed from both titles. He was given a choice, keep one core title that conforms to the new status quo or get a 3rd title where he could do what he wanted with less editorial mandates. He chose the latter and Xtreme X-Men was born.

By the year 2000, fans had grown weary of the same long, drawn out plot lines involving Wolverine's past, Rogue and Gambit's relationship and Bishop being a man out of his own time. Newer characters like Marrow and Maggott didn't click with fans as well. Marrow did a little bit, but she was constantly overshadowed by being a "Wolverine clone". Funny how a few years later when Claremont was back in the drivers seat he brought in X-23. :whatever:

Marrow was at her best when she was a "Wolverine clone". Making her pretty was the worst thing to ever happen to her charater

I agree, and X-23 was brought in by Quesada wasn't she?

And while most people didn't like Maggott I actually really liked him and hated when he was shuffled off and killed. I keep thinking that he can return because one of his slugs survived Neverland but I know I'm grasping at straws.

While I wasn't a huge fan of Maggott he did die a rather weak death.

Cool I will look out for that.

I think the whole Wolverine thing is overplayed. I hear alot of characters get called Wolverine knock offs which I don't think are like Marrow, Pete Wisdom who is more a John Constantine knock off and Wild Child A Sabertooth knock off more than Wolverine one.

I never got those comparisons either. Marrow was maybe closest because her powers were bone spikes and she had attitude but even then it was a stretch.

Maggot fans! I liked him too. I loved all the mid 90s recruits, including Cecilia Reyes. I hated how quickly editorial forced Kelly and Seagle to get rid of them

Cecilia Reyes was cool and I thought making Marrow hot and pushing her towards Gambit was a good move. She was moved away from being another Wolverine into another person.

The editorial interference killed the X-Men's momentum between 97-00.

That explains the drop off in quality towards the end of the decade then because the rest of the 90s was awesome

Yeah, they weren't satisfied with Lobdell.....bye.

Not satisfied with Alan Davis.....bye.

Not satisfied with Kelly and Seagle......bye.

Not satisfied with Claremont.....bye.

Not satisfied with Casey.....bye.

Not satisfied with Claremont.....again.......bye.

The John Byrne/Chris Claremont run on UNCANNY X-MEN alone is reason enough to pick the 80s. There were some other great Claremont collaborators in the 80s as well - Dave Cockrum, Paul Smith, John Romita Jr, Marc Silvestri, a little BWS and even some Jim Lee in there as well.

The 90s were for the most part awful but even then there was some decent stuff. The Jim Lee issues of X-MEN, Larry Hama/Marc Silvestri/Mark Texeira WOLVERINE, almost everything that came out of Age of Apocalypse, and then the wonderful and under-rated Joe Kelly/Steven Seagle run on the main books.

2000s have produced some good stuff. Joe Casey's short run on UNCANNY, Mark Millar's ULTIMATE X-MEN, Grant Morrison's NEW X-MEN and the crown jewel is John Cassaday and Joss Whedon's ASTONISHING X-MEN.

80's and 90's since those were the years I liked the stories more.
