Each of the teams presented as options have something different to offer.

The First Class line-up could have been interesting had Darwin stuck around. But it's not a line-up anyone would really want to see again probably.

The Last Stand doesn't have Cyclops, so that's a fail. X2 is fine if we miss out Pyro, who left anyway.

Pride of the X-Men has Dazzler but no Jean. Would love to see Dazzler sometime though!

The original X-Men Animated is great but I'm not overly keen on Jubilee. Same goes for Evolution, but it's Spyke i'm not keen on.

Wolverine & The X-Men is great, though Jean had a limited role (and is absent altogether in the names given next to it above!)
Well said!!!

The beauty and curse of the X-Men is its enormous roster to chose from. In any narrative you have to think about which characters are going to be useful and since u can only have so many u also have to think about what each member has to offer.

X-men characters w.redundant powers will likely never make any group together. So if u are looking for the resident psychic u would have to pick between: Jean, Psyloche, or Emma.

This is probably why so many people will be lucky to maybe get 2-3 of the favorite Xmen, but not likely to have their top 4 or 5. If Wolverine & the Xmen replaced either Iceman or Angel with Gambit it would be by far my favorite cast. But as it is I'm like the others that let nostalgia play a role in choosing the Animated Series.

I chose XTAS but I would love to see Pryde of the X-Men continued with more modern story telling and updated animation. (Same style and character designs).

The line-up for Wolverine & the X-Men is pretty damn perfect. You have a wide range of powers and personalities on that team. Plus, I absolutely loved Emma in the series!

Yeah, Frost was really the one who switches up the mentality of the roster. Not a huge fan of the anime but I did like how they handled her there as well.

X-Men TAS has the best line-up.

If one day, a X-Men movie will feature Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Storm, Rogue, Psylocke, Iceman, Gambit, Beast, Nightcrawler, Colossus and Angel, then that would be the best line-up ever!

For obvious reasons I didnt include Days of Futures past- that would no doubt be the clear favorite

Without Jean/Rogue/Cyclops in the main roster, I doubt that.

I don't know about that. Psylocke uses her powers different and has quite a few to choose from. They havn't really dealt with psionic energy. Also putting two telepaths like Jean and Emma vs eachother in battle would be pretty awesome. They hate eachother and are perfect rivals in more then one way even if on the same side. That's a fight I think someone has to eventually do in the future.

Ultimately though I don't think any of those characters should be placed just for powers. Connect them with characters and plot lines they have something to do with, otherwise don't use them. Like in DOFP's case. Next time Emma and Betsy show up they need to be represented much stronger or else they will just shoot themselves in the foot when they are needed.

That particular comment u quoted was really more commentary on cartoons rather than the movies. I think because movies are so dynamic it's easier for them to have a changing roster. Cartoons take more into account who the cast is based on powers and then all the story-lines flow from there, a totally different process than a movie obviously. In a casting for a cartoon its probably more about filling spots and since u are limited with how many charcters you can have xmen with redundant powers are probably more of a factor (although beast and wolverine have some overlap).

I totally agree with u about the nuances and intricate differences but they probably look at it in a more general way which would explain why none of those ladies have ever been featured prominently in the same show. W&TXM came the closest but Jean was hardly featured.

It would be cool to see two telekinesis users fight in a film. Jean vs Psylocke would be a good showdown. Perhaps it could be a point in which we see the colorful effect on their powers as they start to reach their potential in a fight. I'm sick of jean only using her powers defensively in the film "unless she is evil phoenix" in x1 she should have made toad faceplant.

I'm ok with no Jean Vs Psylocke. I don't really see an arc between the two and with the way Betsy gets handled outside of the books it won't be a good time for Psylocke fans.

I think the films are actually more guilty of choosing characters for powers personally. The series usually bases them around arcs and character since they have the time for eps on different X-Men . When characters do get chosen over one and another in cartoons it's usually because of the similar arc or roles. Like how Jubille took over Kitty's role in TAS and Emma over Jean for WATX.

Emma wasn't a member of the X-Men till later so that's really why her absence is on the team in the early series. When she got popular as an X-Men she was featured much more in WATX and X-Men Anime. Her and Jean really do have similar roles with Scott so it's a bit difficult to find that balance unless one is away. Happened in the comics as well.

Psylocke has never been really used correctly in any from of media other then the comics, but I don't think that has so much to do with her being a telepath. She really has a ton of other skills and powers to make her look original. But her backstory is complicated and she never really had a specific ongoing role on the team like alot of the others till UXF. If they were doing a love story with Archangel/Warren or a story around Wolverine leading a covert team she would fit right in there. But we have yet to see that. Depends more along the storyline imo. They just never had a spot for her character arc wise or known what to do with her in the grand scheme.

The only way I see Psylocke battling with Jean is if they make Psylocke one of the bad guys again and I prefer her to be one of the good mutants.

I also think if Psylocke appears as one of the X-Men in a future movie, I don't think they should showcase her telepathy powers that much. I prefer to see her with her melee attacks and psychic knife.

Apparently I'm the only one who voted for the First Class team. Oh well. Top top 3 are First Class, X2, and The Last Stand

Never liked Jubilee in X-men assemble ... that one is my least favorite.

My favorite X-men are Colossus, Nightcrawler, Gambit and Iceman. So it was a tough choice for me. In the end, I went with TAS by default. Can't go wrong with that.

I wish Colossus would've played a bigger role in TAS. Heck, I wish Colossus would get a bigger role in anything. Lol.

I voted X2 because it has most of my favourites (Cyclops, Storm, Iceman, Nightcrawler, Jean), and the least number X-Men I don't care for (all of whom shall remain nameless).

Rogue can either be one of my favorites or most hated depending on who's writing her. Goes for cartoons and the comics as well. Can't stand any of her film version. Pretty much took away what I liked about her.

Do you think Rogue will be handled better if Simon Kinberg didn't write X3 and DOFP?

Hands down the 90's X-men

Yes. Any character really.

Unlike a lot of people, I wasn't a fan of FC, and even the characters (and writing) I did like I credit to the actors, McAvoy and Fassbender.

And some of the lines from the clips and trailers that I've seen for DOFP have not swayed me to have more faith in Kinberg.

Yet.

I hope he proves me wrong with the actual movie.

So you're saying fans will always be disappointed with Rogue no matter who the screenwriter is that her role won't get better?

I'm not a writer but if I was, I would have made her stronger in X3 and super strong in her 4th film.

I'm actually surprised it even got one vote. As hardcore Xmen fans those characters are definitely known and maybe even loved but they are by far the least representative of the Xmen as a whole- and for the newer fans I would still reccon that would still be the case.

Im curious- are u a long time Xmen fan or more new?
