I was channel surfing and just happened to catch Menace II Society, on...*shudder* BET, edited like all get out, but the beginning still gets me to this day with Larenz Tate in the liquor store. These flicks were all the rage back in the 90s, and some people enjoyed them, some didn't. I realize the consensus of a lot of the populous regarding them, but I get why the filmmakers made them, overall. If you're a fan of any, is there one that stands out to you?

I don't think Judgment Night really fits in this group .It's focused on an older group of people.

Eh, they still had to endure some crazy **** though. I thought the tone was similar to Juice, except it was over the course of one night.

Boyz N The Hood. There's a french movie called La Haine that is also brilliant.

Menace ll Society was most realistic; boyz n da hoods story was dramatuzied to the max.

I didn't see 'Leprechaun In The Hood' on your list...

Yea man how is this supposed to be fair if you dont have the greatest hood movie ever......Dont Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking your Juice In Da Hood. But for real Friday is the best

Tales From The Hood gets my vote.

I voted for "Friday"

Chris Tucker is a riot in that movie. Its a guilty pleasure, what can I say?

DAMN this list!!

Before this thread gets shut down, ok There's a gang of movies missing first of all, p9aid in full, bout it bout it ain't on here, cash moneys movie ain't on hwere, none benie seagles movies....

After that everbody knows which one! duece!...

Some of there's are good, good poll!

I liked Boyz in the Hood most of those, although actually Menace II Society is the most unforgettable and most courageous of them imo.

Friday

But the best "Hood" movie outside of this definition for me is actually HIGHER LEARNING.

"Where's your I.D?"

I just put the main ones most people would know of, where they actually had some conflict. Hence the "other".

I've always loved Colors.
After that I'd have to go with either Boyz or Menace....would be hard to choose from the two.

Friday's the most entertaining, but Menace II Society I think is the better movie.

I see alot of the posts here about Menace II Society. It may be one of those movies where either you get it or you don't. Either you get the underlying messages and point or you are horribly turned off by what is portrayed in the film. The movie really gives it to you raw.

Yeah, I was watching it again last night, and there really is no one to root for, except maybe Jada's character who's just the female that's getting the shaft.

I remember my mother and father telling me that MIIS was one most depressing movies they've ever seen in theaters.

I'll add City of God and City of Men as riveting hood movies.
