Shazam The Billy Batson/Shazam casting thread

Honestly Mark Paul Gosselaar is a pretty solid actor and doesn't get enough credit . I was always convinced he would kill as Matt Murdock/Daredevil

He really doesn't. I think given the right direction, He'd give a great performance.

I always saw him as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern but when I was trying think of actors who I think could nail the childishness of this Character and just play a generally great Superhero, He immediately popped in my thoughts.

I can see him playing Murdock, he'd be dope! But My #1 pick for Murdock is Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

I had never even considered Hal Jordan but yes he would rock that as well. He is gonna be the lead in a new show coming on Fox or NBC, honestly can't remember which network . Some kind of Vampire show , I'd love to see him make the jump to the big screen though .

Well, I remember watching Dead Man on Campus in theaters but I know what you mean haha! I think he's totally underrated.

Love that film! He was great in Franklin and Bash too.

Holy shot MPG as either Hal or Shazam would be awesome. Never even considered him.

Franklin & Bash is the reason why I think he'd own as Jordan. And I really do feel he'd surprise a lot of people in a role like Shazam.

Part of me has a feeling it's either gonna be someone I've never heard of or a shock choice (kind of like how shocked I was when Affleck was cast as Batman but then immediately loved it) that I haven't thought of.

Was Affeck really that shocking? I had seen him mentioned in the casting thread. It wasn't like Ledger where he had never been talked about by fans or the media.

I know I was both shocked and dumbfounded When I heard they cast Affleck. I thought Brolin was a shoe in for sure.
I thought there was no way in hell they were gonna go with Affleck.

HELL NO to John Cena. That would be the absolute worst in my opinion, and would kill my enthusiasm for the film in an instant.

Affleck was my choice for Batman too, I was not expecting him to sign up though, as he was getting more recognition as a Director than as an Actor.

Ritchson looks exactly how Shazam should look. But I have trouble not seeing him as a crappy Aquaman. On the Smallville front though, I think Welling would make an interesting Shazam.

And I like Affleck as Bats.

For Billy, I've been watching that new Raven show on Disney and this kid, Jason Maybaum, is definitely the highlight from the young cast. While really young (I think he's 10), he could grow into the role.

Throwing Jaeden Lieberher's name out there. He's in IT and was in Midnight Special with Michael Shannon. 14 years old which might be slightly out of the age range though.

I don't necessarily have a problem with Shazam's look being different from the comics. It would further distance him from Superman if he were smaller or didn't have dark hair.

I think that would work better in the end. He could also bulk up a bit more if they really wanted him to.

If his career was on a slightly different trajectory (barely any film credits, last one in 2011), I'd suggest Robert Buckley. He's physically right IMO, and has a good energy for the role.
