Funny that it shares it's name with the extremely racist, yet culturally significant 1915 movie.

The only nomination this will get is Armie Hammer for Best Supporting Actor.

This is having record breaking bids for distribution.

Variety is on a roll. Check the pic they used to represent the film. :lmao:

I've got to remember not to venture into the Deadline comments. It's full of idiots ranting about how Hollywood needs to stop "perpetuating white guilt" by making movies about slavery.

Been a big fan since The Great Debaters. Really happy for him

Probably :sarcasm:

On the plus side I've been rooting for Armie Hammer so that'd be cool

Oh, I like Hammer too but hopefully he doesn't get singled out if he were to hypothetically get acclaim in an acclaimed movie.

A comments section of any site are the dregs of the internet.

Its about slaves so it'll get award recognition regardless.

Oh yeah I get you were joking and I agree that i hope the only people recognized are the non ethnic actors.

It certainly checks off the boxes for Oscar recognition. But we'll see where it goes and how it's handled.

I just don't get how people think Oscar nominations are a way of validation for any type of movie. :funny: Both sides aren't helping.

I can't wait until the 2018 film "Amos and Andy," about the two African-American physicists who perfect cold fusion and bring about a new golden age for humanity.

Would love to see progressive LGBT films with titles taken from Nazi propaganda films.

I think the title is brilliant. A white kid brings home a permission slip to their racist parents allowing them to watch "Birth of a Nation" and they quickly sign it thinking it's the 1915 version. :funny:

Nate Parker stole the show for me in "Ain't Them Bodies Saints." I'm glad to see that he's found success :)

And I agree, the title is creative and brilliant.
