Who would ya’ll pick for your ideal DCU Batman firector?

This is a tough one for me because I feel like there are plenty of serious drama or horror directors out there who I could envision doing a Reeves or Nolan style “true crime” inspired Batman movie. But for a more fantastical and high tech version that fits in the DCU? Honestly no idea. It needs to feel dark but also fun and adventurous in a way we haven’t seen before.

One a recent podcast James Gunn cites the Denny O'Neil/Neal Adams comics from the 1970s as his true "Batman awakening". And yeah, I could imagine an updated and enhanced version of that to be a really good basis for the DCU Batman (and it's the kinda direction I welcome for this).

Edgar Wright.

Are people still high on Raimi after Multiverse of Madness? I liked it but it seems like that movie was pretty controversial.

I still believe that Andy Muschietti is attached, and I am not against it. But for discussion's sake...

- Sam Raimi
- Edgar Wright
- Drew Goddard
- Tim Miller
- Joseph Kosinski
- Lana Wachowski
- Christopher McQuarrie
- The Daniels
- George Miller
- Fede Alvarez

Edgar Wright for me.

At the very least, he and Gunn have been in one another’s IG likes often enough for me to think something is brewing for him at DC. I really hope it’s this.

Chad Stahelski. It’ll be a total hired gun or literal Gunn though.
He's got so much on his plate the only way I could see him as a realistic possibility is if Highlander tanks and he needs that paycheck AND DC offers him more money than Lionsgate would for John Wick 5 lol.

It’ll never happen. But he’d be absolutely aces for an Al Ghul focused Batman movie. I don’t really have any realistic picks that excite me - Dan Tratchenberg maybe? He’d be okay.

Gonna leave off names that are never going to do it (Chad, George Miller, Denis, Baker, etc.)

1. Timo Tjahjanto
2. Yugo Sakamoto
3. Nia DaCosta
4. David Lowery
5. Dev Patel (would also be a great Bruce)

There was this one guy who would've been great and then he turned out to be a sex pest.

An Asian action director doing Batman would be so, so goddamn fun.

I have the lowest of the low expectations for the movies script, so I’m really hoping there’s some awesome directorial flourish that makes it fun.
