The Collector

The concept has me intrigued and it looks interesting, so I'll probably watch it as a DL.

So as of right now I just tried looking for showtimes in my are for this movie and nothing.

I'm gonna be pissed off, if it doesn't play near me. I mean why even bother playing the trailer infront of a movie, if your not gonna even get the movie for the trailer you just showed? Plus I've seen alot of tv spots for this, so i thought it get a nationwide release. They normally don't play tv spots for movies with a limited release.

oh they do.. trust me.

its always 50/50 chance here for limited releases in miami.

ive been seeing tv spots too, although i know my odds ill be seriously pissed if its not in miami.

I've never seen a tv for a small time indie movie thats not played in my area.

Cause all the tv spots I have seen for movies are most of the time always playing in a theater near me. They play them on Big channels like Fox, Comedy Central, E! and FX.

If you are using a service like Yahoo Movies or Fandango, give it time. I've seen the listings take up to Thursday to get updated. Not sure why the theaters have trouble getting updated online, as you would think they would want to reassure prospective customers as soon as possible, but there you have it.

Yes,! I just checked and now i see there are show times for this movie in my area. it's 1 hour 28 mins.

Now only decision is to whether see this or Funny People on friday before work.

I really want to see this, but so far the two reviews on metacritic.com have me a little worried.

thank god its playing in pretty much every theater here

It looks like a Saw movie. (Written by those ****ers too!) So a pass for me. Unless it gets a crap load of great reviews or something.....

This movie has an interesting premise imo, I might check it out.

I am an employee at a movie theatre. So during working hours I actually watched The Collector and it's actually pretty good. You definitely tell there are Saw influences with the traps, the imagery, and of course the ending.

But it's not gore for the sake of gore. It's very tastefully done and the killer is just creepy. I definitely recommend it because it's different and it's very original in my opinion.

looked kinda interesting, as long as they dont go into the gore route and try to make it a legit thriller instead of trying to gross people out.

I got a feeling its gonna be predictable, just from the tv spots. When the black guy says i pick the house and you pick the locks, seems like hes just setting the thief up.

So was their a twist in this movie for all that seen it? You don't know tell us what it was just say yes or no.

No not really. It's somewhat predictable and on the other hand it's not. If you watch it you'll most likely figure the ending out.

I will say the killer is creepy as all hell though. Just imagine Michael/Jason and throw in some weird looking eyes, then have him make some damn creepy screeching/purring noise and you have a winner. One of the main things I liked about the killer was how intelligent and aware of his surroundings he was.

It wasn't your typical killer falls for numerous traps. The killer was actually using his head.

But no, there isn't a twist in this movie though.

Does it leave an opening for a Collector 2? Which would probably be a mistake. It's the quickest way to ruin a horror franchise. lol

Yes, it does leave an opening for a Collector 2. From what I understand they want to try and revive the slashers again. If this film does well and I assume it will, you'll see a Collector 2 next year for sure. But it's not open in a fashion like a Saw, Halloween, or Friday the 13th. It's open to continue the story as it's the killer is completely different compared to a Jason or Michael.

I think the best way to describe him is Michael and Jason mixed together with a bit of Leatherface thrown into him. But once again, the ending does leave it open for a sequel.

Now I'm really curious to check this out but not sure if it's worth $10.00

I saw a bit on this a while back and the premise intrigued me even though it's rarely that I watch this type of film, however it seemed more of a thriller than a horror film. For those who have seen it is it?

Well, actially at first it was gonna be conceived as a prequel to saw.

Kinda like Jigsaw's first dalliance with traps before his more elaborate games?

It's a gruesome serial killer flick with a home video feel to it...sort of like the serial killer version of the Cloverfield/Open Water concept.

The biggest problem with this film is I spent the bulk of the movie thinking of how unintentionally funny it was that this maniac managed to set all of these ridiculously elaborate situations up within about two or three hours time. It would close to a freaking month to get the house rigged the way it is in this film.

I wouldn't put it anywhere near any of the SAW films, and it's not as good as Feast, I liked it though.
I really thought that the girl would die, and I really wanted to see this ******* go down.

I saw it. I enjoyed it. But I do agree most of it was unintentionally funny. I thought the lead actor did a pretty good job. And I kind of miss movies like this. Where, you know, the killer is actually fricken creepy.

wow just saw this movie and i loved it!
completely exceeded my expectations.

this topped the Saw films for me.
there was one scene i found funny.. the cat scene..lol

the killer is badass though. I love the cool glowy eyes he has.
I seriously hope this makes money, totally want to see a sequel to this rather than most unoriginal horror films coming out like the orphan or hillbilly killers like the strangers.

The Orphan was actually pretty damn good imo. Anything like The Strangers can kick rocks though. lol

well regardless of it being good or bad, it doesnt seem as original or inventive as this movie was... ill have to rent The Orphan.

people use the term torture porn very loosely nowadays...
there were gorey movies like this even before Saw/hostel came out.

I agree about the "torture porn" label, it's one of the most overused and quite ignorant labels thrown around on films today...but I don't find this film very inventive. It's basically just SAW without the morality aspect...what Jigsaw would be if he had no motive and dreamt up twisted devices and scenarios to put people in without having any message to convey.

Orphan is better, and considering what they do with the concept, more unique than this film.

So I seen this today. It was alright, but i was kinda expecting more. I liked it though.

I even kinda looked away during a few scenes and thats rare for me.
