Exactly. Why is no one complaining about the current flag of Georgia when it looks almost exactly like the real national flag of the Confederate States?

Because that Flag doesn't have the same history as the "stars & bars". As I said earlier the "Stars & Bars" has made way too many appearances at Klan rallies, lynchings, and anti integration protests.

No genuine attempts have been made by people who want to fly that flag to redeem it's image among Black Americans. The "Southern pride" isn't inclusive at all and they continually downplay, white wash, or outright ignore huge chunks of the history they claim they want to honor.

I think we're not talking about the same flag. This is the "Stars and Bars", the first national flag of the Confederate States. This is the current flag of Georgia, and it looks almost exactly like the Stars and Bars. This is the Confederate battle flag, sometimes used by the KKK.

The Confederate flag is pretty racist and it's pretty dumb to me people defend that crap. Them " It's southern pride and it's got nothing to do with race". Me " There is simply nothing to take pride in when that flag is associated with ignorance, slavery, and racism."

Explain to me why my cousin's neighbor a Black man who told him that the Battle flag represented being from the South.

While the battle flag represents oppression to some it also represents geographic pride and rebellious freedom to others.

Just like the Flag of Turkey represents 900 years of conquest, rape, murder, force conversions, genocide of religious minorities and 370-500 years of enslavement of Greeks, Serbs, Bulgarians and Armenians. You will see people flying that flag with pride.

My point is when does Political Correctness reach it's limits?

When the government gets involved.

Because the average joe has no idea what the real flag looks like.

That flag is the Stars and Bars. The Confederate flag you're familiar with is not. Common misconception. That is the flag of the Army of Tennessee, which some call the "Southern cross".

I wouldn't say he's brain damaged, but he lacks self-awareness.

I'm sure he has some 5 or 10 minute youtube video of him vociferously defending the Confederate flag as a black man and how its not racist or whatever, but I don't really care what he has to say. The Confederacy, which no longer exists, was system led by a white dissident political establishment that wanted to dissolve the Union and protect the institution of slavery. I know there were some Blacks who supported and fought on side of Confederacy, but it wasn't a Black-led movement...they were defending only thing they knew and didn't have better options. There were no Black leaders in the Confederacy (I'm not going to include a White general with great-great grandfather who was a black freed slave as Black like some websites do). Blacks were second class citizens who played a role in Confederacy. There's no reason why a proud Black man needs to be flying that flag in the modern day. When people look at him to identify him demographically, he's Black first, American second, then a Southerner.

He could simply just show his state flag to show his Souther pride...pride as an American Southerner. He could even hang his Confederate flag on the wall. Needing to fly it in window ignoring how others will interpret it is just ignorant and arrogant. He looks like he enjoys being combative and probably has some psychological complex.

I see someone that has his own opinion, wants to move forward with the debate and is proud of where he lives, etc.... he's taking a stand using his 1st Amendment right...

The First Amendment is a hell of a beast.

Yeah lots of things are protected by the 1st Amendment.

And while the government isn't allowed to ban them they're not all things we should encourage for public display in a civil society.

I'm not disputing his 1st Amendment right to waive the flag, just the wisdom in doing so and I don't believe he's moving any conversation forward. Dropping the flag entirely is best way to move society forward, not cling to past rituals that were divisive and defeated...and once considered unpatriotic. Furthermore, your ability to send message is curtailed when you're on college property...it has to be message that is deemed acceptable within value system of college. That's up to interpretation, clearly.

I'm not saying that he is doing any of the things he wishes to do....simply that that is what we wants to happen. Whether it does or not, who knows.

Most things that are protected by the 1st Amendment are up to interpretation.

Yet the 1st amendment helps defend fools in our society. You may be entitled to your opinion but you certainly don't have to respect other's opinions.

Well, the 1st Amendment was not written to make sure that people were not offended by other's opinions. I don't think being offended was really in the minds of the writers. :cwink:

Nor does it say anywhere that others must respect the opinion in order for the 1st Amendment to take effect.

Most of the time when people are yelling that their 1st Amendment rights are being taken away, or those that stand on the podium of the 1st Amendment, really care if others respect their opinion. Just don't think that is really in their thinking...

What are people's opinion on several cities trying to ban/outlaw the sagging pants or pit bulls?

I have wiped my ass with this flag before.

Folks are free to use it, wear it , and display all they want. It is their freedom as americans to do so. Just don't act surprised when other folks call you on it or feel offended about it and **** goes down.

What are people's opinion on several cities trying to ban/outlaw the sagging pants or pit bulls?

I think the attempted genocide against pit bulls is morally reprehensible and so is anyone who supports it.

What are people's opinion on several cities trying to ban/outlaw the sagging pants or pit bulls?

What does that have to do with the Confederate flag?

Anyway, sagging pants… I don't care for it, but I think it's freedom of expression.

Pit bulls are fine dogs as long as their owners aren't piece of **** thugs who raise them to be killers.

So I'm against any city trying to ban those things.

I'm not arguing that cities should ban the Confederate flag either. It's also free expression. I just think the majority of people who display it prominently are *****ebags. That's all. :o

I don't think the Confederate flag should be banned. I just think most people calling it Southern pride are full of it.

Oh, you mean all two of them? :whatever:

There's Jewish Nazis too, you know.
