Saturday I saw a huge Confederate flag sticking out of the bed of a pick up truck. I was stunned by the sight, and fearfully of what crazy maybe up to. They were driving quite erratically, nearly caused an accident when they attempted make a last minute exit off the freeway. I guess they realized they were headed into South East DC.

The Confederate flag is a symbol of slavery, racism, and treason. The First Amendment protects it, but that doesn't mean I can't call anyone who flies it a racist traitor.

EDIT: For clarification, I am a patriotic, Northern conservative, and I'm not "white".

The way I see it is that it's just tacky and tasteless. If you're a Southerner, while it's dumb and stupid, I at least understand it because the Confederacy is a part of Southern heritage, slavery aside. But if you live in a state that wasn't a part of the Confederacy and have no Southern roots whatsoever like oh so many people do where I live in Upstate New York, you're just a racist piece of ****.

I can agree with this opinion. If you are not a Southerner or don't have Southern roots and fly the Confederate Battle flag there is a good chance you could be a White Supremacist.

I like when Republicans try to throw back "It was the Democrats that were pro slavery. It was the Democrats that were pro Jim Crow". Ok, true Republicans, enough with waving the Democratic symbol of "southern pride".

and there are Southerners who are even more racist even though they're in the Heritage Excuse Zone..

Like I said, even in the South it's still dumb, stupid, and tasteless. But at least it's a stupid I can understand.

BTW: If they wanted to have a flag to represent the south, why not just create a new flag?

It's like if German youths who are proud of their heritage aren't going to wave the Nazi flag around (that and it's illegal over there to do so.) but you get what I'm saying.

The Nazi flag only represents about 13 years in German history though. The Southern cross has been a symbol of the South for... however many damn years it been since the war started.

But you get my point right? Just create a new damn flag.

Yeah, but that's only because the Swastika was illegal from practically the moment WWII ended, while the Confederate flag was never outlawed once the Civil War ended. The Third Reich was 13 years, while the Confederacy only lasted 5.

I do. But a flag means nothing in and of itself. Horrible stuff aside, the Confederate flag, represents the South. Everyone knows what it is.

If some guys make a new flag, it won't mean anything except to those people.

When Nazi Germany collapsed, they had an older flag to bring back. The South doesn't really have that.

Sure they do. They have the same flag we have in the North; the stars and stripes. The fact the South has to distinguish itself from the rest of the country as if they're a seperate entity is just pathetic and frankly unpatriotic.

Cool.

Send it over my way and I will wipe my ass with it. I will wipe from south to the north and honor that history.

Heritage, not hate.

Absolutely....for the most part. Of all the individuals I've known that wear/fly that flag, that's the case, but I know there are those that use it with racist intent.

Who said it was

Sorry Man. My post was incomplete. I was making the comment because I felt someone made a blanket comment about Southerners being more racist. I think that White Southerners of 2015 are no more racists than other White Americans. Being from So Cal I have seen plenty of Latino racists and African American Racist.

Again my Bad for posting a incomplete comment.

It's true that anyone can be racist. I hate when people say only whites can be racist (or similarly, only men can be sexist).

The difference between a Nazi flag and the Confederate Battle flag is that the Nazi flag was the flag for the German Nazi political Party. Hitler put his party flag in place of the Weimar Republic flag when he won the German elections. Weimar Republic flag itself replaced the German Empire flag in 1918.

So the Swazi really only represents the Nazis while the Battle Flag represented the CSA

I'll be honest, being an Asian-American, I've witness racism from all types. Black, Latino, and even from other Asians. It is taboo to talk about though, it seems.

I totally agree. Racism is a mental illness that is really color blind!
