Drama The Countess of Monte Cristo

I've seen quite a few adaptations since I was a kid of this classic story, including one miniseries very recently which I enjoyed. This will be a fresh take, and I'm definitely curious.

Okay, at first i thought they simply Genderswap Edmond and call it a day.
But the idea they go with, actually sounds pretty neat...count me in.

Yeah, this sounds very interesting. It would be cool to see them take this approach with a lot of other old works fiction.

A little thought experiment:
Imagine a take on The Three Musketeers based in an alternate and wildly diverging history where we begin 10 years prior to the events of the book with a fictionalized take on Louis XIII’s plot to assassinate Marie de Medici’s advisor being discovered by Cardinal Richelieu before it’s able to be carried out, leading to Louis XIII being executed for treason and Anne being banished by imprisonment and stripped of her title, and we follow Anne, now reverting back to her original name of Ana Maria Mauricia as the main character.

With this happening, Marie de Medici makes herself Queen Regent and Porthos and Aramis reject her rule and step down from their positions to become mercenaries or the like. Ana is imprisoned in the same prison as Milady de Winter (going by Anne de Breuil at that time in the chronology of the book’s history), which leads to them befriending each other (maybe leading to something more later down the road?), making a deal and teaching each other their ways, and planning an escape for a few years, which means Anne never commits any of her later crimes and gives her more of a chance at redemption. Ana swears revenge on Marie.

They escape imprisonment and seek out someone they can trust, which gives Ana the idea to seek out Porthos and Aramis at a tavern for help. This leads them go to the Comte de la Fere (aka Athos) for money and resources to enact Ana’s proposed plan, which Athos says will take around 5 or more years to plan out and put together. Ana, having witnessed Porthos’s and Aramis’s proficiency with the blade in an earlier scuffle, insists on being trained by them and Anne wants to join in. Ana and Anne then train hard for the next 7 years, after which they both completely master. During that time, their previously established bond becomes even deeper and they get into a romantic relationship. The season ends with all of them finally having everything put together and going over the plan and then heading off to Paris.

That would end Season 1.

For season 2, it it would start at the point of the timeline of when the original story begins, where some familiar characters show up (D’Artagnan shows up pretty much at the exact point he does in the original novel), some of the roles are still the same (Cardinal Richelieu is still a scheming, self-serving ****), and certain events play out in a similar fashion, but, otherwise, things play out in an almost completely different way. Ana at the end of my version completely rejects the crown and throne and dissolves the monarchy, leaving the power to the people, which has huge, far reaching effects on the rest of that world’s history.

So, yeah, I basically “The Count of Monte Cristo’d” “The Three Musketeers”. :hehe:

Bring it on! I can’t wait to hear Jim Caviezel’s outrage at “woke Hollywood” over this (somewhere between his thoughts on Democrats secretly controlling the weather and why Jesus told him Trump should serve a lifetime term).
