The Critics' Reviews of Spider-Man 3 Thread

maybe roeper doesn't "know" the comics... but guess what? this isn't a comic, it's a movie. and roeper knows movies.

i'll say it again, just because something worked in the comics, doesn't mean it will work on screen.

your critiques of his critique are ridiculous.
Yea he knows movies:

Movie he loved:
Be Cool
Club Dread
X3
Daredevil...no not the director's cut
Miami Vice
Mr. And Mrs. Smith...I liked this one too!
Meet the Fockers
Mr 3000...GOOD GOD SOMEONE LIKED THIS POS!
Matrix Revolutions

I have already mentioned that some critics are better at critiquing movies in their fields. Roeper knows a great, classical, epic movie that deserves an Academy Award. He does not know comedies or action movies. And I will say it once again...I HAVE NEVER ONCE SAID SOMETHING THAT WORKED IN THE COMICS WOULD WORK JUST AS GREAT IN A MOVIE...God quit saying that and quit referring to me saying that.

And your critiques of my critiques of his critques are ridiculous.

yikes :csad: .. i think RT is looking for all the negative ones first then when they can't find any they put few of the positives at a very slow late... but still don't worry.... it's will be like a roller coaster .. ups and downs..... but if u look at the user reviews it's not so bad.. and we users are the majority compared to the critics. Not matter how low the ratings go on RT I'm going to stay positive.

Alot of these bad reviews do have me worried. Not because of how I'd feel about the film, but for it's place in comic book movie history. Spider-man 1 was a good film,Spider-man 2 was a great film(probably the best comic book film ever) and what's Spidey 3? A mediocre film? There have been alot of bad reviews, but for the most part, there are alot more good reviews. It seems to me that Raimi tried to hard to cram everything into on film, but overall,I do agree that most of these "critics" don't know the Spidey universe.
Even if this film is "just ok," it's still alot better than most part 3's. And it still ranks the Spider-man series as the best comic book franchise ever. You can't please everyone, but I have a feeling that I will love this movie.:yay::heart:

I personally am not freakin' out about it- a ton of the reviews say it doesn't have the magic of 1 and 2, but I think Spidey 1 is just average. In terms of reader reviews for number 3, I distinctly remember people complaining that Spidey 2 was boring compared to 1 (the average movie-goer thinks so), and now its being praised by everyone under the sun.. makes me think people are just jumping on the bandwagon. Anyway though, I'm likening this to Sam's Evil Dead flicks... 2 is somewhat of his rehash of 1, and 3 is more corny but still really cool (still love it). If Spidey 3 is a little corny, I don't really care.. I'm psyched and I doubt Sam's gonna mess it up.

Yeah, I want the movie to do well with the critics, just to keep the Hollywood Elitists' mouths shut ... But if it keeps getting negative reviews, SO WHAT? None of these negative reviews have lowered my excitement for the movie, and it hasn't lowered the excitement for anyone else I've talked to.

People have minds of their own. If I found myself agreeing with the critics all of the time, I'd want to shoot myself in the face.

This dance scene that critics keep complaining about: do they have a sense of humor at all? This is Sam Raimi we're talking about, for God's sake! He likes comedy. The intention of the dance scene was to make it bad, but funny. That sounds like classic Sam Raimi to me. Sure, I wouldn't want to see something like that in a Batman movie, but that's a different case with Spidey. I'm all for anything that makes Peter look like a dork.

Any more questions? I'm here till, well... I don't know- but you get the point.

SHAZAM!

That 'catch phrase' is really growing on me... lol.

I'm a huge supporter of this dance sequence. It sounds entertaining and hilarious. I don't understand the hate towards and I seriously can't wait to see it. I been telling everybody about it. So it is now everybody who is associated with me most hyped scene in the film.

I don't really mind these "corny" scenes the critics are talking about. For all I know, Spidey has had many corny moments in his comic books. I can't wait for Friday!

Leenie,

It may not be about "critics not having a sense of humor." Maybe the dancing scene just doesn't work in the context of the film we're getting. That's all the critics are saying.

Some feel that it just doesn't work and doesn't even belong in the film. That's a valid criticism, if it does bother them.

He's had more than many corny moments, like the time he took a check to the bank to cash it, that was written out to "Spider-man" and the teller wouldn't cash it because he didn't have identification.

If a real guy walked into a bank wearing a mask they wouldn't be asking for identification, they'd be calling security.

bottom line: richard roeper is an idiot. always has been. always will.

for all i know spidey 3 will be a let down. who knows? but mr. roeper is a talentless hack who definately doesnt know movies. i wouldnt put much stock in his review.

as far as the "cheesy" coments. has anyone seen the first two movies? i love them both to death but c'mon, they have a fair amount of dairy themselves. it is raimi after all. it sounds like raimi went all raimi on this one and its freaking people out.

btw this line is my favorite from any review so far:

'And finally, at the end of the movie, Sam Raimi effectively walks on screen and pulls Venom right out of his ass-hole, smiles at the audience, and mouths the words “I hope you’re all happy.” '

I don't even have to see the dance sequence to know it'll be utterly ridiculous.

Being "wannabe smooth" with the ladies does not equate to having confidence and being "darker". I mean, damn, just watch the Alien Costume miniseries' Symbiote Peter. THAT'S what we should be getting. And while we will have flashes of that, there's no friggin' need for a scene that seems to be as outrageous and cheesy as it sounds.

Lol.

IGN and SHH/CS.N always has the best reviews from a fan's pov.

Tony,

It's an opinion, not fact...like everything else on these forums.

As for the box office, there are numerous reasons why it made the money it did...one of them being that a lot of people liked it. But, the biggest reason was timing and the fact that Spider-Man had never been on the screen before.

How do you explain Spider-Man 2...kills it's predecessor in all areas without question and makes 30 million less, domestically?

Again, a long awaited debut on the screen and timing of its released got Spider-Man to that 403 million dollar total, more than how well it was liked.

It's a FACT that in most peoples OPINION that SM1 is in their top 5 of the genera. That clear enough for you?

You can hate it all you want, I could care less, but if you don't admit that most people consider it among the best in the genera then you are dillusional. I'm not saying everyone, I'm saying a majority. I know most people like the second one better, and that's got nothing to do with the fact that most people like the first almost as much.

Lol, that's great stuff.

Tony,

Did you take a poll I didn't know about...since you're saying that it's total fact about Spider-Man?

Well, I'll see if it's valid when I see the movie tomorrow night.

Meh, you know how it is; when a movie franchise becomes as big as Spider-Man has, it becomes "hip" and "kewl" to knock it. "Look at ME, the great movie critic, tearing a popular movie to shreds, because im so DIFFERENT then all those OTHER critics..." :whatever:

Dont lose any sleep over it, man. Just go see the movie, and decide for yourSELF if it was good or bad. :yay:

lets see the things could hinder this movie are

venom's short time(which I feel should be reserved for a spiderman 4) I feel some will hate venom being shoe horned in while so many other things are going on

the dancing scene and piano

kirstin singing

if we can get over that it should be fine
