The Critics' Reviews of Spider-Man 3 Thread

Mr 7000, even you won't be able to call out everyone who has claimed Spidey will make more than Pirates, theres far too many

The scared competition thinks they smell their only opportunity to strike and are out on IMDB. The viewer comments are filled with attack dogs.

Spider-Fans should go to IMDB and vote "if you found this comment useful" and vote "yes" for the helpful ones and "no" for the idiotic ones. The comments with the best rating get rotated on to the main page. I hate seeing asinine comments on the main page. Leave your own review as well.

Is it me? Or do you Mr. 7000 like to here bad or negative reviews...

No. I don't care about reviews in the slightest. My opinion is the only one that matters when judging a movie..of course I'm open to other people's povs but the pro bias for the spidey movies is somewhat alarming...I'm just keeping it real. I honestly think the spidey movies aren't that great, could definately be better and I'm ackowleding all points from good and bad reviews. I'm just not leaping for joy like some of the clowns around here.

Cause it seems like when someone says oh this was bad...you go off into your oh this was medicore....and tons of others things that some people "me" don't agree with.

I'm just stating my point of view and letting others see that there are fans of spider-man who dont share the same views on these movies.

Not bashing on you but, why are you here?

This question has officially now become cliche.:o

And also what do you think you could do that Raimi and crew hasn't tried because you seem to have all the answers...

For starters I do have the answers and I could do a much better job than the half-assed clowns working on these movies. The first thing I'd do is make, an actual spider-man movie.:o :word:

Trust me, I've got a list of names....but seeing as I'm a nice guy, I won't have to call anyone out, I'll let the BO figures do it for me :word:

AMC Movieletter Quote:

On the RT forums, this was my favorite post and it makes a very good point about any potential Spider-Man bias...

"I have the feeling that Spider-Man will start to receive harsher treatment simply because he's "gotten too big and needs to be taken down a notch." All this Spider-Mania and the fact that some are starting to tout it as "the most expensive movie ever made" gets certain film buffs and critic's panties in a bunch. They deem it necessary and feel it falls on them to defend the honor of the little film by trying to find fault with a massive spender like Spider-Man 3. One has to read through the BS with this one."

"As anyone who has seen the eye-popping previews knows, Spider-Man 3 could very likely become the biggest hit of the year. In fact, the movie has already gone down in film history as America’s most expensive film. One reason for the hefty price tag was the filmmakers wanted to ensure that the details of every effect were perfect, all the way down to the last digitally created speck of sand for the Sandman."

Reoper Quote: "There weren't this many storylines in Crash."

As if to say that a movie based on a "silly comic book" can't have complex storylines or characters. It perfectly illustrates the snobbery and attack politics that are now in play for this franchise now that it's the big boy on the block.

It's all meaningless, I expect a great COMPLETE film.

I said it after SM2's good reception, I said it after X3's lukewarm reception and I'll say it now, WHO CARES what Bill Clark From TheBalcony or Jeffrey M. Anderson from Combustible Celluloid or Matt Dork from Darkomix.com thinks? Most of these wannabe's are just frustrated alleged critics tapping their keyboards from their mommy's basement. Their opinion is no more valid than any average person. (Good or bad) They don't know more. In fact, most have agendas and hurt feelings from previous films that makes their reviews utterly meaningless. Quit following RT like it's some sort of valid scoreboard. It's anything but...

There was a really good review in 'The Metro' today, a newspaper they give for free to read on the Underground. It said the worst parrt in the film was Maguire, and how annoying he became, they said they sided with Harry in wanting to kill him

That could be said for any film his boring ass is in. I think Tmags was great as a pre-bitten peter parker but thats all he's good for imo. His acting skills lack diversity and he doesn't inspire jack......I cant wait for sm4 with a new cast.

I know, I know, I've been saying it for years

I read one HORRIBLE review that pretty much said this can be compared to Batman and Robin...I was shocked...

I am worried about tomorrow..

That's rediculous. When these critics do that stuff they lose all credibility. There's no way this is Batman and Robin bad. The only superhero movie worse than B&R is that Captain America movie that was scrapped and sent direct to video release.

It's like the people who compare Bush to Hitler. It's so patently obsurd that it overshadows any legitimate criticism they might make.

I'm seeing it in a few hours (I'm from Portugal). It seems certain it wont be as good reviewed as SM2, but hey, when Batman Begins premiered every critic was bashing it without mercy. Today we all agree its one of the BEST superhero flick ever. I'll wait and see, but I dont expect it to be any better or worst than the others. Its suposed to work as a trilogy. And I'm really hyped for this. But if you look to the bad reviews I dont read anything that scares me. I sometimes think some critics dont know why they even liked any Spider filck prior to this. But I'll post a review in a few hours. Its very supicious as I've read some GREAT critics. Its strange its getting so bad feedback. I'll be back with a veridict in a few hours.

To be honest, I can't recall any critics really bashing Batman Begins, no more than Spiderman 2 anyway

The RT Consensus:

"Though there are more characters and plotlines, and the action sequences still dazzle, Spider-Man 3 nonetheless isn’t quite as refined as the first two."

Why do people keep claiming critics didn't like Batman Begins. Every comic movie is going to get negative reviews but Spiderman 3 is getting lots of them from all kind of directions, fans of the character and the general public.

It seems like at the end of the day, Raimi and co put way too much story into one picture. And the moments that are there, don't make you see Peter Parker as a real human being like Spiderman 2 did for most people. The plot seems contrived and it just doesn't flow like a great film would. That being said, the movie will still be fun to watch and have tons of exciting and funny moments.

I don't think theres many other films I would rather go to on opening night than a Spiderman film. That being said, I think most people will think Raimi dropped the ball with this one. The action fans will be happy, but the rest of us will be missing the stuff that matters.

Tobey is extremely limited in his acting range, IMO. Seeing Topher in SM3 and on That 70's Show makes part of me wish we would have gotten him as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

So basically the bad reviews are because of:
-There is more than one villain.
-The villains are not based on reality like the ones before.
-The movie has a dark tone, not like the ones before.
-Not enough spidey in the black suit.
-Not enough Venom screentime.
-Venom's fate.
-Giant Sandman.
-Dancing.
-Black spidey is not evil enough.
-Harry not having a Goblin mask of some kind.
-Harry not having his dad's glider.

^
It just sounds like that regular people who have never followed the comics and only recognize spidey from the previous movies are not use to seeing these type of villains that we are familiar with.

And it also sounds like fans of Venom really wanted to see black spidey longer, doing lots of bad things, plus seeing Venom alot longer than what they got and the way his fate turns out in this movie makes them even more angrier.

For me Harry's lack of a Goblin mask and a snowboard glider is a disappointment, but it wouldn't make me hate this movie because of it.

Go into this movie tonight (if you are among the midnight showings people) with a clear head. That's what I'm doing. Once the film starts, I'll just be thinking about watching the film and my opinion will matter.

I'm going to chime in here because - they are honestly critics who thought the previous villians were based on reality? All right, there was some sort of 'explanation' for what happened to them but it was all very TRUFAX science. I really don't see how Sandman is so much of a huge leap from a guy being controlled by the arms that got welded to his body or a man developing a split-personality from performance enhancers.

Just my opinion, of course. ;)

The bad things I'm hearing about this film is that having the 3 MAJOR villians ruins the story basically. We'll see soon enough....
