The Crow Reboot

Ideal state would’ve seen Hardy remain in the director’s chair with Bill as the lead. I’ve liked Hardy’s work in Gangs of London. But it is what it is now.

It’s funny to me that people say Bill looks Gen-Z or like a drug addict. I think he actually is supposed to be both of those things in this film. I might be mistaken, but pretty sure there was a synopsis floating around that mentioned

Eric and Shelly meeting at a rehab center.

Though I’m just guessing he’s meant to be a 20-something.

Corin Hardy was supposed to direct this at some point? Man, we missed out! :csad:

I'm not a fan of the look (I don't hate it just don't really care) but ya I've seen real people with much "worse" tattoos.

I think that fans of the original just may not be the target audience, as much as People hate it this movie could do decent with the Hot Topic, edgy teen audiences. I'm 23 so wasn't around for the original but I also don't really relate to the drugged up, greasy aesthetic some of the films play towards. Unless the trailer gives off a distinct enough look through I'll just add this to the "maybe one day" category.

People getting mad that characters in a movie look like they're living in the era the movie is being made and taking place in are so funny to me. Dude just looks like half the alt guys under 40 you'd see at any sort of punk/metal show.

I mean, when the current aesthetic means that a great many people look absolutely ridiculous then yes, it's practically begging to be picked apart.

There are ways to update a character & make it a bit more modern in a way that's enticing & gives a fresh take on a familiar story. And then there's crap like this. It just doesn't look good.

But, we'll see what happens when the trailer drops, since that will give a clearer idea of what we're working with here beyond the appearance.

Uh-huh. Everyone has said this about every fashion trend ever. It just makes people sound old. The only thing "ridiculous" looking is the forehead tattoo because forehead tattoos have never looked cool ever - dude just has a trendy haircut and tattoos.

I'm talking about the way he was moving on test footage, exactly like Eric in the comic, based on how Iggy Pop was moving which was direct inspiration for Eric, he isn't that big, let's not act as if he looked like The Mountain from GoT, he's just built well, Eric wasn't?

We're talking about as if mullet tattooed drug addict looking Bill was closer to the comic...

It's not even a "I hate you young punks!" scenario considering A. the mullet, tattoos, etc. just look terrible and B. Skarsgard is a full 3 years older than me so we are literally apart of the same generation (i.e '90s kids). :tearsofjoy:

Again, my gripe here isn't that he has tattoos or even that they're modernizing the story. It's the execution itself. There are ways to make this aesthetic look good. This is not it.

Really need to read the comic to see how it differs from the 1994 film.

The Tattoos and hair don't really bother me that much. It's the placement of some of them and the obvious Suicide Squad Joker comparison. That was my thought instantly as well. The Makeup lacking the white sucks because I'm a fan of James O'barr and always liked the looks from the comics and obviously the original film. I know in some of the sequels they explored other alternate makeup as well but of course none of them were that great compared to the original. I'll admit, I still enjoy City of Angels as well as Salvation. Salvation was a huge departure in looks and style while trying something new. It had that made for TV feel and wasn't that great, but I enjoyed the wrongfully jailed/executed and revenge/redemption story part of it.

I like Skarsgard and I'm confident in saying he will likely do well based on other films I've seen him in. I have no problem with them trying to do something new with a different take and I never expected or even wanted a shot for shot remake. It's just based on what I've read, watched and seen, it appears to be very far off from what I expected and wanted.

Maybe it will turn out good, maybe not. Time will tell. But at least I have the original to enjoy if not.

The original movie was perfect for its time. The goth craze. The amazing soundtrack. Who’s gonna be on the remake soundtrack?
Its probably going to be Billy Eilish or Taylor Swift or perhaps Harry Syles with a remake of "Burn" by The Cure.... :tearsofjoy:Sorry, I couldnt help it.

The Crow in the comic didn't have white makeup though, it was the movie thing, James however draw Eric all white too.

I never had a first print of The Crow #1. Mine was from one of those combined graphic novels where they reprint a few issues into one book. If my memory serves me correct, it was white faced and white bodied on a slightly colored cover on the one I had. But, my comic book reference was more in line with the original black and white artwork and there are later comic series that did have white makeup. They may have added the white make up to Brandon to give it more of that black and white feel. But it's a look that I prefer regardless.

Yeah the look just feels much more dramatic with white makeup. It’s a simple, but really striking contrast.

I'll judge it when I see a trailer. It's more of a contemporary alternative take which is more rooted in hip hop so I understand what they're trying to do. Whether or not it actually works remains to be seen.

Everything is timeless about it in my opinion, the movie itself have distinctive 90s feel, but his look is timeless, if he was walking with this hair today you would've thought it's weird? Or maybe his makeup which influenced many modern similar characters isn't timeless? Black coat?

I never said he looked weird or that the aesthetic isn’t influential. I’m saying that style today looks very 90s.

Robocop looks awesome and is highly influential. He still looks definitively 80s.
