The Crying Issue

It might not be "PC" to say it, but I miss the days when men were men and women were women. The days of John Wayne. Now a days, it is acceptable to be metrosexual or every movie has to have your stereotyped "Strong, agressive, assertive woman"...its just annoying. Maybe gender roles aren't such a bad thing. Eh, I don't know. Of course there is this new metrosexual trend, but that'll probably blow over in while, maybe...it's been around in Japan for ages, though.

But I don't really see it as men are becoming more feminine, but people are just becoming more comfortable in being themselfs and not fitting into gender boxes.

faulty wiring's not up to code, rusty scrap metal laying eveywhere, dead grass is a fire hazzard, sub-standard framework threatening to give way, only water source is nearby stagnant pond infested with toxic algae, etc.

I agree with you. But the interpretation of men crying is seen differently by many ppl, due to gender roles and societies pressure to ensure they stay as they are.

I almost cried at the end of "King Kong" (2005). There is something truly touching about that lug of a gorilla.

So, ive been hearing lately and seeing for myself that men are starting to cry a lot more in public. I stress that because men have always cried, they're just really good at hiding it. The question is, why is it becoming more acceptable for men to cry in the eyes of other men. It is just society that's accepting this development or are men actually opening up to the idea that "feeling" isnt a bad thing?

Just curious to know what the men think, and whether any of you will openly admit to crying every once in a while.

More importantly, does it bother you that other men seem to be more emotional, are they tainting the masculine image?

I only cry when I really need to.

Either when I'm completely wasted/drunk or in front of my girlfriend.

Most of the other times it's when I'm at home. I try not to get everyone involved.

I cry sometimes. I have this problem where I pent everything up, as I have been doing since I was little. So sometimes everything kind of just...explodes, and then everything comes out and then oops, I end up smashing something. I've only ever cried in a public place once. I don't know why I did, It was just one of those things. Looking back now I probably made a fool of myself and still beat myself up over it.

But I think people like to spout off this "don't bottle up your feelings" rhetoric when that's not what they want at all. You hear "women love when you open up" but I have yet to hear an actual regular woman that's not a specialist or therapist say that.
