Comedy The Daily Show Thread

John Oliver has done a pretty good job hosting the show.

I am particularly impressed by how seamless the transition has been. Oliver could fool you into thinking he's been hosting this show for five years.

I suspect this was partly a test run for his own show anyway. Like Colbert is a neocon takeoff his could be like a BBC news thing satire.

They should let Charlie Brooker do a segment on the show like they did Dave Gorman although Brookers style might be a little to in your face for their tastes.

Not at all surprised after the positive reception he got as fill in host over the summer.

Yeah, saw that coming. He did a decent job.

The only surprise is that he left Comedy Central for HBO after his time on The Daily Show and his standup series on CC. Good for him. I didn't like him when he joined the show as they had him replace Rob Corddry as the lead corespondent and he came from nowhere and didn't pay his dues. But I soon grew to like him. He's also in 6 episodes on Community this season.

Confirmed: Jon Stewart is leaving 'The Daily Show' (details tk)

So, pit Samantha Bee, Jason Jones, Jessica Williams, and Rob Riggle in a battle to the death over claiming the show?

God damn it. Did they both need to leave before the next election?

I am hoping for Samantha Bee and Jason Jones to become co-host. That, or Craig Ferguson randomly take overs.

The crazy thing about this is remembering that The Daily Show didn't originate with Stewart. At this point, you just think of it being his in the same way that The Colbert Report was Colbert's.

Exactly. It feels bizarre to imagine the show without him.

This is sad news. I hope The Daily Show continues to deliver the news the way no legitimate news channel can.

Where is Jon going?

I wish him well with what ever he does next. He has consistently kept me laughing for over a decade. Hopefully he doesn't just fade away and he remains a relevant cultural critic and public comedian for some time, like Twain or Wil Rogers. I can't quite see him coming back to TV but one never knows. Zod bless Ya Jonny. This is the real end of an era. Larry has big shoes to fill.

HOW DO I LIVE WITHOUT YOU...I WANT TO KNOW....:csad:

Makes sense. How many more elections does he care to go through? I'm sure he could launch a podcast after a couple of years to decompress and it will do major business.

First Colbert, then Ferguson, and now Stewart. How much more loss must I endure?:waa:

I wish Stewart was staying on through the next election but I understand wanting out before going through that inanity and insanity again.

I'd have felt better about this if John Oliver were still available to host. :csad:

I honestly don't know who could fill his literally small, but figuratively HUGE shoes.

This ****ing sucks.
