The Dark Knight The Dark Knight Game Informer Sept 08

I would have like a dark knight game....but this could very well be better!

perhaps we'll get both eventually.

I am so giddy right now thinking about all the villains they could do!!!!

Not really interested in a TDK game, because I always found more potential in an original title. Judging from the cover, the art style kicks all sorts of ass.

Please keep us updated on the pics and article asap. :)

I want to get excited, but DC has a poor, poor track record with games--like the mediocre "Batman Begins" and embarrassingly trashy "Batman: Dark Tomorrow" (if you ever want to play the worst game ever, rent it). To be fair, of course, it's not just DC--most franchises adapted to games suck. I imagine that game developers don't treated licensed properties the same way they treat their own properties; they probably save all their real effort and innovation for their own titles.

There is the occasional exception, of course. "The Darkness" was incredible. "Hulk: Ultimate Destruction" was fantastic. So maybe there's hope.

I just worry that any Batman game that's not a cross between Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed will leave me disappointed. If WB was smart, they would have got Ubisoft to make the game. Ubisoft is godlike.

pandemic has a pretty good track record, I have high hopes for this game. Although you do have a point with the past batman games...well lets let the screenshots speak for themselves. I can't wait to see em!

Didn't Gary Oldman say something about doing voicework for the game, and having seen a bit of the gliding aspect? That could be really cool to get TDK actors voicing the comic characters.

yea he did, but that was last year i think. since then they have canned it.

Can someone post the contents of the kotaku article?

Thanks.

Ah sounds promising. Could have potential, I like the idea of an original game as opposed to a direct adaptation, which often limits the scope

Kotaku Article:

As it stands, nobody has commented officially on the specifics of the next Batman game. Hell, nobody has officially acknowledged that the game even exists. That doesn't mean we can't hear about it unofficially, however. So, courtesy of someone who's already played the game, let's look over the first details on what you can expect from it, and how it's shaping up.

Firstly, our source confirms Pandemic as the developers behind the title, though we pretty much knew that already. Secondly, a good portion of the game is set in a GTA-style rendition of Gotham City, which plays a lot like Spiderman 2 as Batman zips around (he even gets a grappling hook for swingy-swingy when not using the Batmobile) attending to crimes. And thirdly? As was first raised last week, it's not in the best shape, perhaps explaining why the project has been kept in the *ahem* dark for so long.

Seems the combat just doesn't work. Partly due to the game's wonky free-roaming camera system, partly due to the mashy hand-to-hand combat, partly due to the limited range of moves Batman has at his disposal, which makes the whole thing awfully repetitive. Which is a bit of a shame, though realistically, with no official announcement, let alone release date, there's plenty of time to fix that kind of stuff. On a brighter note, another source tells us Pandemic have taken a few creative liberties with the game, and while it's based on The Dark Knight, the game's actually set after the events of the movie, which should at least be interesting from a story-telling perspective.

I'll believe it's going to be good game only when i play it for myself.

Wait, are we not getting a TDK game then?

I'll check this out when I get home since the freaking page is blocked.

After The Dark Knight? That could be very interesting...

Sounds great. Movie tie in games usually blow, so this sounds cool. I hope they do get some of the cast to do the voicework.

Cannot wait for the new TDK based game!!! It's gonna be awesome!!! I like how they did free-roam and I'm glad they're fixing up the game. I don't really like repetitive games. I really wanted a TDK game though. Hopefully you'll be able to play some events of TDK like the final fight between Joker and Batman and w/ the sonar! That'd be awesome!!! I'd also like to play as the Joker and use a RPG to shoot people w/ or a bazooka or a rocket launcher . They'll be fun!!!

Actually, Ubisoft HAS made Batman games if I remember correctly. I could be wrong, though. Surely someone can Wiki this. But I know what you mean.

Technically no, I guess. It's set after the events of the movie, wich could still be interesting, especially considering that The Joker is still alive, so we should get that at least.
