The Diamond List for January 5th, 2011

Batman Beyond #1
Brightest Day #17
I, Zombie #9
Superboy #3
Sweet Tooth #17

Well, it seems I have to add Jake Ellis to my list. Any writer or artists who takes their time to come on The Hype, I'll always try to support.

EDIT: Even better, the price is really reasonable! Did Image decide to lower their prices because of DC comics doing it, too??

You know, that preview for John Ellis does look pretty good. If my shop has it I'll give it a shot. Helps having a first issue arrive during a week so light it's almost not worth going to the comic shop

You know, I was feeling lazy tonight and didn't bother to check Image's website for what Who Is Jake Ellis was about, but that preview does make it look pretty interesting. I've enjoyed Tonci Zonjic's art on other comics, too. I'll give it a try after all.

DC COMICS
SECRET SIX #29 (not on the list posted here but I checked DC's website and it seems to be there).
STEEL #1 $2.99 (maybe)
SUPERBOY #3 $2.99
WEIRD WORLDS #1 (OF 6) $3.99

MARVEL COMICS

ANT-MAN & WASP #3 (OF 3) $3.99

Wow, tiny week indeed, almost none of the books that I pick up regularly seem to be on this list. Oh well.

just glad you guys are mentioning my work.

The price at heavyink for WHO IS JAKE ELLIS? #1 was actually 2.39, and at MidtownComics it was 1.99--I don't know what availability they both still have but if you're interested in checking it out I recommend those venues.

HeavyInk has actually been pretty awesome about the book--one of their readers has a print shop of some sort, and was apparently so interested in teh book he printed up flyers from a piece of WIJE? art online and sent them to HeavyInk to put in their outgoing comics. Wow. (Hope we don't disappoint him!).

Yeah, I'm blessed to be working with Tonci on it. He's a star.

If your'e in LA, Las V, Phoenix, Albuq-q, Dallas (and surrounding areas), Austin, Houston, New Orleans, Pensacola, Atlanta, stay tuned or catch me on twitter for the tour announcement (did I say this in an earlier post?). I'll be flying to LA and driving cross country doing about 15 signings on the way back to promote issue 1. Hope to see you there!

MARVEL COMICS

AVENGERS CHILDRENS CRUSADE #4 (OF 9) $3.99

Wow, starting things off small.

Man, it's like the universe is converging to keep me away from Who Is Jake Ellis. Tried two comic shops in town, neither had it, tried HeavyInk but their website wouldn't work for me, and Midtown's shipping is more than the comic itself. I'm gonna try one other comic shop in town tomorrow, but if I can't find it there, I guess I'll just bite the bullet and go with Midtown.

My comic shop didn't order a single copy; but, I had them put it on my pull list, and hopefully a copy will come in next week.

I got my copy. Put it on my pull list months ago along with Infinite Vacation.

Superboy #3 $2.99

avengers childrens crusade #4 (of 9) $3.99
x-factor #213 $2.99

My problem with having to put new stuff on my pull list is that I find there's a bit more inertia to titles on my pull list. If they suck, I'm not as quick to take them off as I am to just drop them if I'm picking them up casually. Not that Jake Ellis looks bad or anything, but I don't really like to commit titles to the almighty pull list right from #1 if I have no prior experience with the characters or premise or creators. I want to try them out first.

Makes sense, but I think this is only a 5-issue mini, though, so I went ahead and took the risk.

I'm not getting my comics until tomorrow but I called my shop and they got it in and put a copy in my file for me. I'll read it tomorrow night

I checked out HeavyInk since Nathan talked it up so much. I ended up just setting up a subscription for Jake Ellis and a couple other indie minis I know my shop's not gonna order more than one or two copies of. It'll take a couple weeks to build up to enough issues to warrant a shipment, but I'm fine with waiting.

As I'm starting to get my long list of comics to pull for the upcoming Emerald City Comic Con, I saw Nathan's name pop up...and, didn't even realize that he wrote one of my favorite minis from last year, The Light. Now, I cannot WAIT for my issue of Jake Ellis to come in. (Plus, get both series signed by him in March.)
