Even Kansas got rid of this kind of nonsense legislation. Kansas.
Please excuse me while I laugh loudly and uncontrollably for about five minutes.
If you hate a group of people so much that you literally want to make laws to basically run them out of town on a rail, at least grow a pair instead of hiding behind a "faith" that you wouldn't know anything about if it bit you on the ass.
Arizona Senate: Business owners can cite religion to refuse service to gays
seriously though, doesnt this kind of mean you can do whatever you want without fear of legal reprimand by merely claiming yer exercising religious freedom?
Only against 'teh gays'. Anyone else and it's illegal.
Does federal law state sexual orientation alongside race, religion, gender, etc?
If so, then yes it should supersede state law.
So I'm going to say something that many of you may have the knee jerk reaction to hate...but finish reading before reacting...
I think this law is fine. Here's why:
If you are a business owner and a person of faith where one of the things you cling to is something so inconsequential as how other people choose to love their fellow man (or woman)...fine. That's your right to be intolerant, and hey...that's your company!
But here's the thing...I'm not going to work for you, I'm not going to buy anything from you, I'm going to want nothing to do with you, and I feel sorry for you and your ignorance and I hope you eventually wise up...and a lot of people will feel the same.
I firmly believe that the tides are turning against these fools on a large social scale and they will not make nearly the strides they could as a company that is nonjudgmental and all-inclusive. They may even fail.
So let these people have there businesses and vote with your dollar, as is the American way.
I see what youre saying and there is sense to it. A public business cant hope to stay in business and be this intolerant to a part of the public. It just doesnt fly in today's society. So whether the federal government changes the law or not business and capitalism will win out and remove these dregs of society from public business.
But as a principle, a law like this shouldnt be allowed to stand. It must be over turned on principle. That being said, I leave it to the gay community. If they wanna fight it I say go for it. If they want to set back and wait for these bigots to go out of business I can get behind that too. I know one thing tho, until AZ starts acting right they wont get my business if I can help it. I will not drive through that state, or take a flight that lays over in that state.

FL may have stupid people, but at least we don't pass laws like this
Would you be fine with a law that said it is ok to do such a thing based on race or gender? Because there is plenty of parts in the bible that you can twist and use if you want.So I'm going to say something that many of you may have the knee jerk reaction to hate...but finish reading before reacting...

No reason to just leave it to the gay community...it should be community in general rallying against this type of intolerance. I'm not gay and I'd gladly hold a sign protesting this crap.
There's also your previous point...how in the hell will they know if you're gay or not unless you wear it on your sleeve? Sexual preference shouldn't matter and I believe in most cases it isn't obvious at all unless someone outright says "oh...and I'm gay btw." Sure you have your very flamboyant, some of which annoy even me with how ridiculous they can be about it...but in general these businesses won't know. So it's really a dumb law.
Though it begs the question: are these businesses not allowed to ask your sexual preference during an interview? If so, again, even given that I'm not gay I'd say "why does that matter" and I'd probably even walk out. And depending on how desperate for a job you are you could lie.
I agree though that the principle of it is you shouldn't have to hide your sexual preference for fear of ridicule in our society in any shape or form...again, it shouldn't matter.
Also...guess what Arizona...I have my own beliefs (call them religious if you'd like) and they clearly state that I will have nothing to do with institutions that discriminate against any people based on their gender, race, sexual preference, favorite color, hair color (even you soulless gingers), etc. As long as you aren't hurting anyone...you go about living how you'd like.
