The door is open to Watchmen sequels, prequels, and spin-offs

I'm not really interested in spinoffs, but I don't see how they'll somehow detract from Watchmen itself. Watchmen'll still be good.

Theres still life left in Watchmen, creativley it was great film.

Wow ... some of you needs to chill out. Its only a graphic novel, no need to freak out.

At the end of the day, any property owned by any company can be used however you like. If you dont agree, just don't buy it, or take the Alan Moore way and ignore its even happening.

To counter. It's being creatively bankrupt when they are only just doing something with the Watchmen characters... to do something with them. It's not like this is a story about how a good creator has come on and wowed the pants off the guy that was stopping sequels/prequels/untold stories of Watchmen.

This story is some idiot saying, "Now that we can do stuff with the Watchmen characters.... LET'S JUST DO WHATEVER! AND FAST! "

Not it isn't. Watchmen comic characters are just that characters. Its not like Moore wrote a novel about them, and DC just had nothing better to do then adapt the book into a comic and then make a sequel. It was a graphic novel to begin with. and the idea "when they are only just doing something with the Watchmen characters... to do something with them." is beyond strange, cause basically you could say that about ANY comic book character.

Hey why they don't make a citizen kane 2? I see a potential franchise there. Or maybe a tv series based on the grapes of wrath? it could be on the cw.

You see what I did there? but no for comics apparently nothing is beyond being exploited, not to mention that watchmen as a whole goes beyond just the comic genre.

Why do people continue to want prequels? I mean... wasnt Star Wars enough of a cautionary tale?

I'm not going to flip out like some people here, but I mean, talk about pointless. Leave well enough alone, DC.

Thank you, Commander Obvious. That's what everyone was going to do in the first place.

Not it isn't. Watchmen comic characters are just that characters.
Yes. Characters are characters. Everyone knows that.

Its not like Moore wrote a novel about them, and DC just had nothing better to do then adapt the book into a comic and then make a sequel. It was a graphic novel to begin with.
Did you have a point when you started typing or did you just start and go with it?

and the idea "when they are only just doing something with the Watchmen characters... to do something with them." is beyond strange,
Actually. It isn't. This is not that someone had a great idea, it's someone thinks that DC should be driving these characters into the ground with overexposure and crap stories. So when I say that they are doing something, to just do something... it means they are sacrificing quality to just get something done.

cause basically you could say that about ANY comic book character.
That's not really a good thing.

They probably are just planning to use the Charlton characters, it's probably no big deal.

Chud loves to rile people up. It gets them attention.

doubt Alan would allow a sequel, but it'd be interesting to maybe play out something like masked heroes in the age of terrorism...

Oh, there's absolutely nothing "Alan" could do about it.

Short of a black magic ritual.

Which he's probably attempting at this very moment.

The original Watchmen certainly won't be cheapened by any spin-offs. God knows, tons of famous books have them without affecting the original. I can think of 10 sequels and parodies of Pride and Prejudice off hand But I don't know if Austen would have been ok with those when she was alive. That's why I think it is a cheap and exploitative move on DC's part to do it when it's against the express wish of the author. Maybe after he passes or if he changed his mind it would be alright. But I think they should wait.

That'll be a hell of a wait. Alan Moore's too ornery to die.

Like Keith Richards and Grant Morrison, he can't be killed by conventional weapons.

Dan Didio will have to employ the same techniques they used to finally kill Rasputin.

A Rorsach, Booster Gold team up would be kinda kool. :csad:

Mxyzptlk and Dr. Manhattan hit some 5th Dimensional strip clubs.

Night Owl and Plastic Man become lovers and it turns out The Comedian is Plastic Mans father too. You people aren't thinking of the possibilities. :whatever:
