The Earthquake Thread

Even though California looks really beautiful, this is part of the reason why I'm too scared to live there. Too many earthquakes. :(

Earthquakes are nothing, I even slept through one once. Now tornadoes scare the hell out of me

The Bible Code says that California will have The Big One in 2010.

TEH OMGZ! Itz COmiNGs!:wow:

I guess we're officially two years away from the end of the World.

Because there's no way in hell that three massive earthquakes in four months is a coincidence.

It looks like the casualty count isn't high...........yet.

I saw this thread and thought "Aren't these things as common as taking a piss for Californians?" 7.2 is pretty heavy though. It's not the frequency of earthquakes increasing, but the magnitude of them so close together is a bit troubling. Haiti, Chile, LA, and much more.

Tip: Avoid living anywhere near the Pacific Ocean. That is, if you're afraid of things like volcanoes and earthquakes.

God bless the Midwest. We just get tornadoes and blizzards, both of which are fairly predictable.

since when are tornadoes predictable? I seen them hit houses and leave a single one or two alone while relocation all the others

I haven't been able to sleep due to all of the aftershocks every 10 minutes! :cmad:

Most of the earthquakes that occur here are too small to be felt. The only one I panicked during was the Northridge quake because that one was pretty scary. All the other ones I don't get freaked out about. Just felt it should be discussed because pretty large quakes have been happening lately as you just said.

Wanted to make my point so bad that I had to post it twice.:awesome:

Its usually all over the TV. They will interrupt the show to say that the weather is favorable for a tornado to develop. Thats what I mean by "fairly predictable."

I get antsy being near any kind of ocean. I don't like large bodies of water at all.

I didn't feel it because I was driving around. I have this streak of either being asleep during earthquakes or in a car driving around and not feeling them. I haven't felt a big one since the big 90's one, I think it was in Northridge.

You guy sare going nuts. The rather surprising amount of earthquakes recently are just buisness as usual for Earth. The plates move all the time, guess they're just a little looser than usual. Oh and also, earthquakes happen every day, most of em in the middle of no where or the ocean. Just more this year have been on land. no biggie

But yeah, i'd be scared to live in Califraudnia, a big earthquake could trigger a volcano to go kaboom. And that aint good

Thanks buddy. I'm just going to go make sure my zombie apocalypse/earthquake into volcano kit is ready to go.

I was having a beer with my bro and some friends in Culver City when this happened. It felt like we were on a boat. Lights and decorations hanging from the ceiling started swinging around a bit, and people around the restaurant were laughing. On some of the TV screens, you could see the news anchors reacting to it while it was still going on, which was weird.

Powerful quake hits Indonesia: seismologists

(AFP) – Mar 13, 2010

JAKARTA — A powerful quake with a magnitude of 7.0 hit off the eastern Indonesian island of Maluku on Sunday, seismologists said, but no tsunami warning was issued.

The quake struck at 07:47 pm local time (1247 GMT) about 132 kilometres (82 miles) southeast of Labuha, North Maluku province, at a depth of 56 kilometres, the Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.

"There has been no report of casualties so far. There was some shaking felt in several areas but it's not strong," the agency's technical chief Suharjono told AFP.

Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.

sure is becoming the year of earthquakes
