David Meunier is the latest name said to be joining the cast of director Antoine Fuqua's The Equalizer. Deadline reports that the "Justified" actor will join Denzel Washington, Chloë Grace Moretz, Melissa Leo and Marton Csokas in the big screen take on the 1980's television show.

The original series was created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim. It starred Edward Woodward as Robert McCall, a private detective with a lot of contacts who is available for hire if you have a problem that you don't know how to solve.

In the movie, McCall (Washington) is living a quiet life while working at a Home Depot when one of his acts of kindness towards a prostitute (Moretz) gets him embroiled with the Russian mob. Leo will play McCall's former supervisor who now provides him with information.

Meunier will play Slavi, a Russian pimp for whom Moretz's character works.

The movie was written by Richard Wenk with Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch producing through Escape Artists, alongside Alex Siskin, Mace Neufeld, Tony Eldridge, Michael Sloan, and Washington.

The Equalizer will begin production this month in Boston.

Home Depot?

I'm not usually one to b**ch about product placement but it's pretty lame if it's actually in the description of the movie.

I don't know but this feels like a done this seen it already.

Sony Already Planning An "Equalizer" Sequel

By Garth Franklin Monday February 24th 2014 11:34PM
Richard Wenk has closed a deal to write the sequel to Antoine Fuqua's upcoming "The Equalizer" movie at Sony Pictures and Escape Artists.
Denzel Washington stars as retired intelligence officer Robert McCall in this cinematic reboot of the classic 1980s TV series. In the story, an act of kindness toward a young prostitute (Chloe Grace Moretz) gets McCall embroiled with the Russian mob.
Melissa Leo, Bill Pullman, Haley Bennett, David Harbour and Marton Csokas also star. The film has reportedly been testing "through the roof", in fact a mid-December test screening is said to have earned "the highest scores for an R-rated movie in the studio's history."
Unsurprisingly, Sony is quickly moving forward on the sequel so the project has the momentum to happen when the first film hits cinemas on September 26th.
Washington's contract did NOT include an option for a sequel, Washington has famously never starred in one, but this could well be his first if the first film is as much a success as Sony hopes.

Denzel Washington, Chloe Grace Moretz, Melissa Leo, and Marton Csokas. Ok that's a really good cast. I do wonder just how "prostituty" they can really go with Moretz's character given her age without running into legal issues? I do look forward to seeing her play off of Denzel (supposedly they rewrote this part specifically for her because she and Denzel had great chemistry in a audition session).

Hmm... the more iconic image of the Equalizer is in a long winter coat. That silhouette doesn't immediately strike me as the character but just a random man.

Can't get the Wolf of Wall Street out of my mind. :D

This almost seems more like a Taxi Driver remake than The Equalizer.
