So this thing is pretty much out tomorrow the 21st, no reviews, no interest in this possible final chapter of the Alma story? I'm curious to see how this Point Man/Paxton Fettel gameplay works out.

Nope. No interest in Fthreear.

I've never really been a huge fan of the series though.

First one was an amazing game. Still has some of the best AI and shooting to date.
Second one, terrible, horrible game. This looks pretty bad as well so I wont be touching it.

IGN gave the game an 8.0, I've always thought the FEAR series was pretty cool, not something to jump up and down about, I'll be checking this one out

I played a little earlier via a demo. It's probably more fun to play as Paxton considering you can pretty much possess any of your enemies, which you have to constantly do in order to keep from being killed.

Love the F.E.A.R. games. really interested in seeing where the story is headed.

I heard Beckett (the guy from FEAR 2) shows up and explodes when Paxton possesses him. :awesome:

I will get this game at some point.

Giant Bomb F.E.A.R. 3 review by Ryan Davis (2/5)

If F.E.A.R. were a movie franchise, F.E.A.R. 3 would be the direct-to-video sequel. Even though it picks up--and, ostensibly, ties together and concludes--the disturbing, apocalyptic threads left dangling by the first two F.E.A.R. games, the handoff from series developer Monolith Productions to Day 1 Studios is palpable. Rather than focusing on enhancing and exploring the stark atmosphere and high-tech tactics that has defined F.E.A.R. thus far, Day 1 seems more interested in incorporating elements from brand-name shooters like Call of Duty and Killzone, adding features without adding value. Even to this end, F.E.A.R. 3 doesn't crib with particular inspiration. It's an experience that feels diluted and common, a horror game afraid of its own shadow.

Despite playing a bit from the first game, the series wasn't anything I wanted to jump into. The third game doesn't look appealing to me but perhaps I'll go back and finish the first game and just skip the other two.

How can the game get even a remotely high score with those 5 year old graphics?

Yea I saw a couple of screenshots over at gametrailers, the textures look like watercolor paint splashed all over the place. Pretty bad.

You know, I honestly liked the graphics in part 1 more than part 2. It was hard for me to actually play part 2 to the point that I gave it up for a few months.

I totally agree with you man.
Fear (1) uses hard edges ink shadows and a sterile metalic like surface similar to Doom 3. When you go into slow-mo in Fear 2 the screen becomes a yellow pukish color, people glow like light-bulbs. The blood now looks like HP sauce. The physics suck. Gameplay sucks in pretty much every respect compared to the first game.

The first and last decent fear game ^

See, That's beautiful. Fear 2 was just way too... polished.

So i just finished FEAR 3 and...

yeaaah.

It was an improvement over FEAR 2 but still nowhere near FEAR 1.

Alma unfortunately gets pretty much sidelined in what is her last outing in favor of the rush to stop the pregnancy and the conflict between Fettel and Point Man.

I mean its got a couple of nice set-pieces and the levels are fairly varied, the trip through a Supermarket turned crazy killer den was neat, a fight through Fairport suburbia and the opening levels in Mexico have some cool bits with civilians actually running about and out of danger as you move along. Combat's fairly entertaining with a Killzone style cover system that feels more of an option than a necessity due to your slowdown abilities.

Speaking of which this is a very co-op orientated experience. I didn't mind the leveling but seeing points constantly popping up was kind of weird.

Still it just never manages to come together. The game is ultimately just not scary enough and the game uses pre-rendered video a LOT, which feels really out of place.

The real star of the show is the creepy camera feeds throughout the game of the two brothers as children in their cell. Watching Fettel's descent into insanity and his final insanely violent rampage and the steadily horrific drawings that he scribbles across the walls is well handled and lives up to what I had imagined.

Good call. Apparently, the game was in development for 4 years.

And was...at one point, F.E.A.R. 2 before becoming F.3.A.R.

It's a fun game, and the co-op with Paxton Fettel works due to his ability to heal you and possess enemy soldiers.
