The fan on my HP desk top computer has started overheating & shuting down my computer which it hasn't been doing until recently since I've had my computer. It's mostly when I am playing certain online games that the fan goes haywire & starts making awful sounds before it shuts down my whole computer. Is there a simple way to remedy this problem? I've only had this computer for about a year & a few months now so I would hate it if it were to go out.

Is it the processor fan, or one of the other fans? Either one can be replaced easily and inexpensively.

It just says that the CPU Fan has failed & that my computer will be shut down in 5 seconds & then it does shutdown in 5 seconds.

It's the fan over the processor. A new one will cost you maybe $15 to $20 if that and all it takes is to unscrew 4 screws and one little connector and the old one will be off and put the new one on and you are good to go. if you keep running your PC though like it is, you could do some serious damage to the processor.

Are you talking about the fan directly in the back? I've never performed any serious maintenace on any of my computers before. Are the fans usually the same size, or are they different sizes? Do all computers tend to use the same fans or is there a certain model that I would need to get for my brand of computer?

No that's the power supply fan. If you open up your pc theree is a fan right over the processor. Pop that off take it to a computer store or Best Buy and get the one that matches it. Fans come in all different sizes. Power supplies come in all different sizes and different wattage. But you want the small black fan in the inside.
