Yeah, the scary part is that certain posters get angry when we express our opinions freely, and try to convince us to trust Marvel because they have never let us down before.

Are they agents in disguise, trying to regain control of us?

Exactly. All of Marvel's movies are decent. Some are really pretty bland imo. They have yet to really wow me (IM1 and TIH to a lesser degree as exceptions), especially in terms of emotion and story and character development/struggle/growth

Charlie Rowe would be an inspired choice.

Agreed

Hard for me to decide between Holland and Rowe.

It's a tie between Holland and Rowe for me, but I voted for Rowe as he had been my pick until he kind of fell off my radar as I thought he wasn't being considered after that earlier shortlist appeared.

As for the rest, I'd give Butterfield a chance but have reservations about him. I'm not familiar with Plummer, but I'd keep an open mind. I do get a little bit of a Peter Parker vibe in some of the pics I've seen of him.

Lintz and Lewis would be automatic no's for me due in large part to age. I really think that ideally they should cast no younger than 18. 16 would be the absolute minimum for me.

Rowe seems to be the one the majority here want. I'm not particularly surprised.

I can't vote for any of them other than Asa, because I haven't seen any of the others do anything. On the other hand Asa was excellent in Hugo and Ender's Game.

You can't go on pretty boy on looks alone ... I think some people voting are voting based on the photos alone.

Yeah, but it's been like that for awhile around here.

I just roll my eyes and move on, lol.

I like how neither of the kiddies got any votes. :hehe:

That is because many people, I included, don't desire for a kid who looks to be in middle school as Peter. Acting ability isn't the only factor, that is what people need to understand.

What would your reaction be if Spiderman was castes as a woman, albeit a very good and respected actress? Just talking hypothetically here, would you accept it because she was a good actress?

I like how neither of the kiddies got any votes.
Are you laughing at the people on the forum for being so shallow or are you laughing at how pathetic they are for choices?

And who did you vote for btw?

since I'm unfamiliar with the work of any of the actors on the list, I am basing my opinions pretty much on their look in the photos I've seen.

in addition to their age and height - which goes with their appearance.

but for me it's not just about the "pretty boy" look. it's about what I feel is appropriate for the role, how the actor would gel with the rest of the MCU cast, and for the vision Marvel has outlined so far.

that is, a young Peter Parker in hs who exists in the world of the MCU.

so, I ask myself "Do I see said actor as a young Peter Parker AND as Spider-Man?"

as well as "Do I see said actor looking like he fits with the rest of the MCU cast?"

and I'm super glad for that!

deciding to hire someone under 20-21 instead of a 20-something, such as a 17-19yo, to play a 15-16-yo High Schooler is one thing. But getting a 14yo to play an older 15-16yo is unheard of!, and quite simply preposterous to me

Laughing at the fact they were even considered :oldrazz:

Voted Asa.

unless they decided to make the character younger to accommodate a younger actor.

but I think a Peter younger than 15 is starting to push it.

Yeah, 15 should be the absolute youngest they go in terms of the character.

But it should ultimately be the main factor.

What's good about having the looks when you can't act your way out of a paperbag? Or being a mediocre actor yet looking almost exactly like a design for a character?

Even some people that want, say, Charlie Rowe for the role are bringing up that he's not quite good of an actor as someone like Asa or Tom, yet it's established he looks a lot like Peter Parker from The Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon.

What would your reaction be if Spiderman was castes as a woman, albeit a very good and respected actress? Just talking hypothetically here, would you accept it because she was a good actress?

That is literally the worst argument you could've given me, lol. But I'll play ball:

No, I wouldn't accept it because Peter Parker is a male and always has been in his 50+ year run.

I don't know what you tried to accomplish with this.

This. I give the slight edge to Holland though.
It's weird that earlier in the week, I had a dream that someone who wasn't on the original shortlist was cast as Spidey.
Next thing you know, there's news that 4 others have joined the fray (not the band :oldrazz:). Imagine if it goes to one of them, it'll be Deja Vu.

My top 3:

1) Tom Holland
2) Charlie Rowe
3) Asa Butterfield

Rowe could've had 20 votes...if not for the rather unusual votes for a guy who should be Chloe Moretz's stunt double :hmm

Charlie Rowe.
I've seen enough of Butterfeld that im convinced he cant pull it off and he doesnt have the right look.

I gave you that argument because Peter Parker is Peter Parker; there are certain qualities that he has, and a 14 year old kid who not only appears to be very short but doesn't look like Peter in the slightest does not fit this. Yea there will be inconsistencies here and there, but you should still strive to capture the essence of the character, which acting ability cannot do.

Well, this was enough to get me back here after some 3 months out. How has everyone been lately?

Nice to see Rowe on the shortlist. He was always my favourite pick for a younger Peter, so I'm quite happy to vote for him. Going from Peter Pan and Red Band Society, I'm pretty convinved he can pull it off, and he does have the necessary qualities for the role(likability - which, granted, is entirely subjective -, energy, enthusiasm, wit, et al.).

Rowe could've had 20 votes...

He does now. :cwink:

and that's the same reason why a 6ft Asa isn't right for the role, either.

because at 15-16, Peter Parker really shouldn't be some tall, lanky kid in hs.

those really aren't the attributes that come to mind when I think of young Peter Parker in hs.

imo, of course. :)

Ok for me if these are the end game picks. I don't want Lintz or lewis. I think they are not right for the role at all.

My top pick still is holland at this time. He still seems the best one to go with. But I would settle for rowe or plummer if it's not holland.

Most of us agree on Lintz and Lewis, so that is no confession
