Awesome.

Well, we get so SERIOUS in other threads, and I thought that this thread would be a good place to come together and enjoy something that many of us have in common.....

Love of our animals....

aw, how cuuuuute....

You can see my babies in my avvy.....

lol.....it may be French...but born in America....

Next thing you know they will let people from France be born in America :cmad:

Also, to combat his liberal, wimpish persona, Obama should of gone for something ferocious...like a Pit Bull, or Melissa Rivers.

Obama getting a French Dog is a conservative punchline waiting to happen.

Well, since a Pit Bull attacked my smallest dog this morning at the dog park....I'd rather my President not go that direction....

Was it ever decided what kind of dog they would be getting? I know there were two breeds that it had been narrowed down to.

I'm not sure but the last one was similar to a poodle.

These are some of the hypo-allergenic dogs...

Poodle
Labradoodle
Maltese Terrier
Bichon Frise/ Bischon Havanaise
Yorkshire Terrier
West Highland White Terrier
Shih-Tzu
Chihuahua
Whippet
Italian Greyhound
Basenji
Irish Water Spaniel
Portuguese Water Dog
Schnauzer
Chinese Crested /Mexican Hairless

If I'm not mistaken one of the last dogs talked about was the Portuguese Water Dog...but I guess we will have to wait until Monday....

After a week of bow & queen-touching, FINALLY something that is actually IMPORTANT!

Names? Depends on the dog, however MJ & Puppums are good names for all

I would have rather the Biden's gone with a Shelter Dog as well, but that is just stupid...

Whippet's are rare. I vote Whippet!....... and name it Devo:grin:

He would find it very hard to find a Whippet as a rescue. There are rescue organizations for Whippets but they are very few, because this breed just isn't bred very often, and their rescue organizations are fantastic, they find owners very quickly. Also, it gets cold in Washington DC in the winter, I would opt for one of the other dogs that have longer hair.

To me the Labradoddle would be the best bet...or either of the water spaniels...

SuperFerret addresses President Obama

Please, please, I beg you Obama. Do not get a "designer breed". Doing so will validate those breeds in the eyes of those who will create them for profit without heed to the problems that can arise. I'm under the understanding that your daughters are allergic to pet dander, so this is obviously a concern, but there are many well bred dogs that are hypoallergenic that you can choose from.

I think the bigger punchline would stem from a black man getting a pit bull, although I admit that having a pit bull as the "First Dog" would be great positive exposure for the breed, especially from the perspective of it being a wonderful family dog (which they are).

Also, Kel, I'm sorry to hear about your dog being attacked. Too many pet owners do not know or care to control their dogs, which leads to things like that. I hope he's okay and recovers quickly.

Best dog we ever has was a Lambassador. Black Lab / Bassett, big lab body on little basset legs, with those big floppy ears. Black with a white badge on his chest and white socked feet. Zakk and my Dad were inseparable. Man, I miss them both. Here's to you guys!

Thank you SF, he's fine, he's a tough little pooch....I immediately took him to his vet to get him checked out. He has a fat lip, pierced tongue, and is pretty sore, but he's going to be fine. Scared the hell outta me.....I was at a dog park, my dog totally ignores everyone but the squirrels so it was really surprising. The dog suddenly picked him up and started shaking him....I freaked out, threw my hot coffee all over the dog, his owner grabbed him and he let go, and then about 4 other dogs attacked my dog. My other dog Armstrong got bit as well, trying to get between him and the other 4 dogs....but everyone is fine.

I had to turn in the dog owner, because his dog has already had problems....but I'm changing parks, there are just way too many pits that go to this park regularly, so my dogs will have to find new friends.

Did he have any back problems or weight issues? It's a hell of a mix, I'll grant you that, but I'd be concerned about the health issues on a dog like that.

That's good that his injuries aren't too severe. We had a poodle come in to the clinic I worked at that had been attacked by a pit bull once. Poor thing was torn open on her back from shoulder to shoulder. Luckily the old girl survived.

It's too bad that there are so many poorly trained pit bulls and irresponsible owners out there. They really are good dogs, you just need to be able to control the natural aggression and predatory instincts they have, which isn't too hard to do compared to breeds like Chow Chows.

My sister and brother in law have a pit bull named Zena.....I love her to death, she is as sweet as she can be. My other dog Armstrong pretty much grew up with her and they absolutely adore each other. Louie as usual ignores her.

I will say this, had the owner not gotten to his dog, I would have kicked the dog smack in the side.....thank goodness the coffee startled her.

The thing with Pits is their strength, not necessarily their disposition. ANY dog can suddenly snap for a second, but no other dog can do the damage as quickly as a pit can. I wish our dog park had banned them like others. AND, this owner had his dog in the 25 lb. and under park. THAT will not happen again, I'll have their asses kicked out.....my dog can handle other dogs his size, but a pit just isn't fair.
