The Flintstones Reboot

Interesting, but NOT going to theaters. It said released in 2015, never says theater, and only mentions home video. It's a home video release. Anyone could make that mistake though.

But why would the trades announce it as a DTV title? They usually shy away from announcing films that are direct-to-video or made-for-TV (apart from casting news).

I guess it's a slow period for them until there's more Star Wars news.

give me The Jetsons. then we can talk. they can create futuristic world for oever 5 years. why are they waiting?

Because FLINTSTONES is a big property and big name. It's the same exact set up as Scooby Doo. And there's a lot of these coming out, this is just another only with bigger names attached than usual. If it was theaters, they would have focused on that rather than only discussing the distribution plan which would be way too early to announce if that wasn't the primary plan. It's confusing, but if you read the whole thing - they never talk about theaters, rather just how it's being distributed.

They should have phrased it like IGN to avoid this:
About a year ago we wrote about how Seth MacFarlane's Flintstones reboot was permanently delayed, but now comes the news, via Deadline, that Warner Bros. and WWE Studios are teaming up for a new animated Flintstones movie - to be released worldwide on Blu-ray, DVD, VOD and digital download in 2015.

And here's news about their Scooby plans:

The way deadline reported it even through me for a loop originally, but read the IGN news first.

Yeah, dark_b is correct on how they can't even seem to get Jetsons off the ground. ****, Yogi Bear got a movie first.

Yeah, I've always thought the Jetsons would be a no-brainer.

Warner Bros. Pictures is teaming up with WWE Studios to bring us a new animated big screen adaptation of The Flintstones. The film will be based on the classic 1960s animated series from Hanna-Barbera that included characters such as Fred and Barney.

The film will also have an all-star WWE voice cast that includes "Vince McMagma (voiced by Vince McMahon), and such WWE Superstars and Divas including John Cenastone (John Cena) and CM Punkrock (CM Punk)."

The plan is to release the film in early 2015.

This sounds terrible.

Am I the only one who thinks the original live-action film had a good plot (for a kids toon adaption)?

I too think the 1994 live action adaptation is pretty decent but critics HATED it. I liked it as a kid and I recently watched it again and while, I see why some people would hate it, I found it still to be a decent live adaptation of a cartoon series. The main criticism that the movie received was that the storyline was too adult for a kids movie. Which I do agree with, the storyline in the movie touched on embezzlement, mother-in-law problems, office politics, and extra-marital affairs, money problems, which is too adult for a kids movie.

Plus some of the acting is pretty bad particularly from Rosie O Donnell who was a TERRIBLE choice for Betty and Elizabeth Taylor as Wilma's mom. However, I do think John Goodman was a good choice for Fred and Rick Moranis was good choice as Barney. But other than that, I thought the movie nailed the feel of the show with the designs, and the location of Bedrock and the dinos etc. I also liked the B-52 Meet The Flintstones theme in the movie.

I actually think The Flintstones holds up better than any of the other cartoon to live action movies they've made (Scooby-Doo, Yogi Bear, Smurfs etc.)

And I'd sure as hell prefer Seth McFarlane's Flintstones reboot to this WWE crap.

The second live action Scooby Doo movie was the best in my opinion. But yea, the 1994 live action Flintstones movie does still hold up today (for the most part) some of the CGI looks kinda crappy nowadays but its okay. Also I agree, I would prefer McFarlane's Flintstones reboot or the WWE one.

It had come out right after JP and people didn't know what cg could do.

What's also pretty great about it is that they actually built Bedrock. If they did it today I'm sure it'd be done in-studio with mostly green screen cutting down on construction cost. That'd work probably great for a Jetsons movie but not so much a Flintstones movie.

Considering the Flintstones was originally intended for adults I am very satisfied that they decided to go that route with the first movie.

I too will back up the Flintstones 1994 film. It wasn't that bad, despite Rosie O' Donnell as Betty.

movie is good. its that simple. designs, look and comedy is for kids. the story was for adults. everyone got something and the movie made a lot of money.

i remember two families that had a dog named dino. they got the dog 1 or 2 years after the movie . kids loved Dino.

1994.cheap tickets, cgi and practical effects. ultimate entertainment.jaba daba doo

I didn't know Flintstones was originally made for adults. Interesting....

It was a primetime sitcom, they even did commercials for cigarettes. That thing they made called Flintstones On the Rocks in like 2001 went back to that whole thing.

So basically the Flintstones was the first Simpsons / Family Guy cartoon for adults type of thing, of course it wasn't as vulgar as family guy ha. . Ha cool. Well I don't see why critics based the live action movie for having a adult storyline then.

Funny enough, I saw the original Flintstones as a double feature with JP at a drive-in when I was 4 or 5.

The news about the jetsons got me wondering who people would cast in a live action version of the flintstones.

If it follows the current run of the excellent series then Lucy Liu would be an amazing Betty

I would love to see a live-action Flintstones reboot produced by DC Films, like the current comics. Imagine seeing the DC Comics logo at the start, then realizing that you're about to see a Flintstones movie.

Seth McFarlane was going to do a reboot for a while. I actually think he's perfect casting for Fred

I don't think they'd go near a live-action Flintstones reboot any time soon. It's not like the ones they released years ago are fondly remembered. Animated would be more likely if the Hanna Barbera movie series they have planned takes off.
