Science fiction actors and actresses are rarely nominated for Oscars. Sigourney Weaver is one of the few who did (best actress - "Aliens").

Alec Guiness was nominated for the original movie.

But no, I haven’t been expecting any major awards love for this, and that’s fine. If gets the token BP nomination, that would be awesome, but I’m content with being delighted with the movie itself, and how great the reaction has been. That’s better than an award.

But I will be disappointed if Mad Max: Fury Road gets left out.

Best Visual Effects, Sound Editing, Sound mixing, original score, film direction, editing, production design, costume design are the best chance of being nominated.

If Episode VIII goes the way of ESB dialogue/performance wise, Daisy may have a shot at an Oscar next time, I think. She's certainly capable.
