The Dark Knight The Heath Ledger Award Nominations/Wins Thread

I think you are wrong about that, friend. I believe there would have been an excellent chance of him winning even if he was still alive.
Totally agree with u here.

Of course he would have won if he was still alive his performance was bigger than any other roles they had for Supporting Actor.

Congratulations Heath!

Regardless, if he were alive and nominated...most "reasonable" people would have to admit he deserved to win. Who else this year crafted an iconic performance that people will remember for years to come? No one. Ledger stands alone.

That has never stopped the Academy from awarding less valuable works.

I have mixed feelings about the claims that Heath Ledger only won this Oscar because of his death. In one sense I feel that's wrong, as it was a brilliant, unforgettable performance that was more than worthy of award recognition. But regardless of how great or deserving a performance it was, just look at how The Dark Knight - thoroughly deserving of major award nominations itself - was pointedly snubbed elsewhere in the ceremony...

But that's all conjecture. The key point is that Heath Ledger won, and the win is well deserved. Congratulations, Heath, and thank you for bringing the ultimate Joker to the big screen.

I have also mixing feeling about his Oscar. I think they gave it to him 1) because he died and 2) because Batman TDK gave a 1B$ in Hollywood economy.

Still I m glad he made he deserve to be in the podium, a first for the comics world.

honestly heath was deserving of the best actor. his performance was better than and will be remember for much much longer than Penn, Rourke, Pitt, any of them.

oh yeah, anyone else see how mad his mom (or was it his sister?) got when during the nominee anouncements they put the camera on them.... it was kinda funny seeing her roll her eyes and then they immediately change cameras ahhaha

Congrats to Heath! I'm really happy that he won tonight. Here's a little something...

Ha. Funny you should post this. I had this picture drawn up in my mind over the last few weeks, but suck at Photoshopping.

Congrats to Heath Ledger. Although it is to be expected that he will win the Oscar, however nothing is really certain until it happens because Academy Award doesn't like to hand out post-modem Oscars. The acceptance speech by Heath's family was classy and heartfelt, and it capped the amazing award run by Heath Ledger's performance in TDK with a great note.

R.I.P. Heath.

I love this fan art work by jmc

Congratulations Heath you deserve it and you've really set the bar for future superhero movies to try and achieve oscar status . Like TDK did .

Well done Heath Ledger and how soberingly morbid is the thought that Heath had to lose his life in order to get deserved recognition for his dedicated performance. I honestly believe that, having seen all five performances, that Heath's portrayal of The Joker was still the most exciting, engrossing, vivid and memorable. But alas, this is the Academy and we all know how they operate so it's impossible to call it on how it could have been had Heath been alive.

Congratlations to Heath Ledger....one of the best comic book villians...ever!!!

Hahaa, yeah I really wanted to make this picture work somehow, even though it might not look good, but still decent. Used 3 Joker pictures :woot:

Finally the icing on the awards cake for an outstanding performance - Congratulations Heath!!!!!!

Congratulations Heath on this recognition for your amazing and unforgettable performance. You brought to life a truly iconic character, and as a fan, I look forward to enjoying this performance for a long time to come. Thank you Heath...

I agree with those that have said that there is no way to tell if he would have won the Oscar for his awesome performance in TDK if he was still alive. The fact is that he is dead and you would have to be a complete blind fanboy to pretend that his untimely death had NOTHING to do with him getting the award. That being said, the Academy would not have even considered him had the performance been anything less than extraordinary, especially since this is only the second posthumous Oscar ever given, so regardless of WHY he got it, he DID get it and he certainly deserved it.

Go Heath! You rocked the silver screen in a way that it will not likely be rocked for a looooong time to come.

Totally agree, Heath's performance was so mesmerizing compared to the other nominees that while the Academy can get away not giving it to TDK in the other categories, no way they can ignor his outstanding performance as The Joker and not give him the Oscar, I firmly believe that.

I watched the ceremony and man, it was very emotional. I was happy that he won but I was also very sad at the same time. I wish Heath was there on stage to accept the award he deserves and earned.

I don't want anyone to take this the wrong way, but it just seems like such a waste you know? A man of great talent, charm, charisma, and he's just gone you know? It's just not fair at all.
