The Fortress of Solitude: The Superman Lounge

I dunno... if he's not STEALING the cakes, it's like... why even bother?

😅
I have been thinking about how they could include the stealing of 40 cakes also.

Perhaps Clark and Lois go to a gala that is put in by Lex and when they arrive they are standing by the table of food and Clark comments "there's got to be at least 40 different cakes here" and we find out either before of after that Otis was sent to a cake shop to get them and Lex sent them a false check and blows up the building,

Another idea I had was that Lex is on the run and hijacks a van and as it drives off its revealed it belongs to a cake store with the slogan "We have 40 different cakes".... Except I can't really imagine Lex being an on the run type of character.

I like your thinking 😂

Hopefully if they ever do reference that, it comes about in a natural and organic-seeming way, and doesn't feel horribly forced.

Oh boy, I got a notification an old thread I made had been moved, and now I've just been on a trip down memory lane 😂

I can't believe I'd forgotten all about the countdown thread drama 🤣

The cake meme should only be done once. We've gotten a bit too many spiders pointing at each other of lately. Meme references are an easy thing to overdo.

I work right next door to a Krispy Kreme and their drive-thru had a crazy line out the parking lot today. Really hope all those folks weren’t waiting for those abominations lol.

Yeah. It honestly looks like they have been left in a hot car, for a very very long time.
Chia pet donuts. Get yours today.

Last night I had a vision for a teaser.

It begins with a narration by Lex saying something along the lines of "We are now living in a world of so called gods"

We open to the very back of a group of hundreds of people at a rally of some sort, the camera picks up speed as it moves across the crowd to the front.

We see shots of Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl and Guy Gardner in some action scenes.

Lex's narration continues "and monsters"

Now we see shots of villains doing bad guy stuff (not Lex)

The camera now has zoomed to the front and we see Lex Luthor standing at a podium in front of hundreds of people "and yet one.. Man? Monster? Thinks he stands above the rest of us" (Something along those lines, basically he is trying to get a rise out of the people and turn them against Superman)

The crowd roars with cheer and applause.

Lex grins

Then "look! Up in the Sky!".."it's a bird"..."it's a plane!"..."it's Superman!". Superman zooms over the crowd that are all now looking to the sky.

Lex's grin drops.

Lex begins to speak again but it's not at the podium "right now you are the only person I trust" Lex is face to face with The Engineer, cut to Lois and Clark "if you want my trust Smallville then get the scoop on bla bla"

Logo drop and it's not round ( :p )

Cut to a well sized Clark sitting on the train squeezed between others, a woman with a pram gets on and Clark excuses himself and stands up for her, she takes a seat. A baby bottle is inches from hitting the floor just as a hand grabs it, Clark hands the bottle over to the baby with a wink and smile.

Anyone here ever done that before? I just wondered is $12 an hour actually good? I realise you're just standing there for 8 hours & that you presumably get fed & whatnot but it seems quite low hourly rate considering the movies budget is likely not far off $200m.

I’ve never done it myself, but I do know being a background extra is typically a minimum wage gig or close to it. These people won’t be union actors, though some folks use it as a path to joining SAG-AFTRA (union productions give out vouchers after each day of work; 3 of those makes someone eligible to join), but most local people do it just for the excitement of being in a film. It’s not really “make a living” type of work on its own imo.

This is the first time as a Superman fan that I haven't been very excited about an upcoming Superman movie. Still tying to get over the fact that Gunn got rid of Cavill. Gunn refused to allow Cavill to finish his arc, not even be part of Elseworlds? How is that fair? Gunn just doesn't want competition, that's why. The reason he also asked Superman & Lois to end its series. Funny how Gunn cast Supergirl when the movie doesn't even have a director yet. I was divided about Snyder's Superman, but still thought Cavill was the best Superman we had and he deserved way better. I honestly can't forgive James Gunn, especially since he was going to keep his favorites (Jason Momoa, Zachary Levi and...frickin' Ezra Miller) Corenswet looks like Pepsi standing next to Coca-Cola (Cavill). No disrespect to Corenswet.

As a filmmaker, I think Gunn is a genius filmmaker. I loved Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and Volume 3. Not volume 2 so much. I like The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. Having said that, my concerns about Superman may be that it will be too hard on the jokes. Hope it's not silly. The fact that Otis is even in this movie raises eyebrows for me. Plus Miss Tessmaucher. And Scooby-Doo was pretty bad, granted I know Gunn only wrote the story, but it was pretty bad. I hope the tone of this Superman isn't like Spider-Man: Homecoming or Far From Home. Those films weren't serious enough and both films were comedies.

Gunn has a lot to live up to. Gunn is going to have to really impress me if he wants my support after not hiring Cavill and adapting the horrible, dreadful New 52 costume and the Alex Ross inspired Kingdom Come logo. I mean why would you want to start with the Kingdom Come logo? For me, that's not even a Superman logo. It's not even an 'S'. Looks like a backwards Z to me. The S is so iconic, and one of the most recognized logos in the world, but the Kingdom Come logo is less recognizable to the general audience, and in terms of marketing, I think that is a really bad idea. Something more classic should have been adapted. I don't want the KC logo to define the image of Superman for the next generation. I wasn't against it, I just think that could have been earned to do the Kingdom Come story in 10-15 years time should this new DCU be successful.

Ultimately the new 52 inspired look and Kingdom Come logo really stand out as a huge distraction for me, and Gunn is going to have to do a lot to impress me. The suit doesn't even look better than Cavill's suit. So far, my expectations are not high. I want Superman to be taken seriously and not be portrayed as silly or goofy. I want something epic. A story where the people look up to Superman or potentially will. I personally didn't care for Superman vs The Elite. Not that it was a bad story, but for a lot of people that say Superman is too clean cut, or too good, so I think that story may not suit a general audience in my opinion or where Superman talks to a priest (Superman For Tomorrow) got to admit, that was boring. Ideally I think Superman should have a one man show down with Lex Luthor's power suit or another villain. I know Gunn is a fan of using lesser known and unique characters, but I hope he doesn't go for something goofy.

Because Warner Bros is a business, not a charity.

Cavill has starred in flop after flop, the general audience is neutral at best toward his Superman, they’re not gonna give him 250m to make his dream movie “just because”.

Different strokes. It’s the first time in over a decade that I’ve been hyped for Supes. Feels nice.

Corenswet is a far superior pick for Supes than Cavill ever was imo. For the main reason, he can act. He’s also got that naturally laid-back easygoing goofy dork charm and warmth inherent to his very being. The main reason Cavill was rejected by audiences is because he was a stiff plank of wood on screen. Add to that Corenswet’s taller, younger, won’t be poorly hiding a British accent, is more perfectly Clark Kent-looking and Juilliard-trained like Reeve, and he seems like a major upgrade in literally every respect to me.

Gunn is also a much better storyteller who knows how to make an emotional crowd pleaser, so I’m far more optimistic of audiences actually liking Supes this go-round.

So to each their own! :)

Ezra Miller and Zachary Levi are definitely not coming back, especially after their films booooombed. Jason may come back, but in a different role. It's still a rumor at this point.

Why would he finish the arc of another director as an Elseworld story that would require the entire JL? What does fair have to do with it? Why would he want competition? Supergirl does have a director. She's also appearing first in Superman. Cavill had the look and that's about it for me, and even that wasn't great all throughout, but that's on people that have nothing to do with Gunn. He's also not keeping any of those actors you named.
