After seeing the latest trailer I have full faith that this will be the one of the highest grossing movies this year. And we know they are already getting things in motion for Green Latern 2 should this be a hit. Sadly it seems like Campbell wont be returning for GL2, cant say I am really surprised as the man seems to kick of franchises and then leaves them to others to complete. So what direction do you think Future films will take without Campbell? http://collider.com/martin-campbell-green-lantern-2/91163/

I know it gets used a lot, but I would like it to do something similar to "Empire Strikes Back" in that the characters evolve more and gets deeper into the mythology and is more serious. There should be more at stake in terms of scale, more planets involved etc. I hope they get a director with a very specific vision for it.

I'm gonna throw out a controversial name: Michael Bay.

That could happen. You gotta figure the second movie would focus on Sinestro's turn. There have been rumors about who the villains are in the second, and if true, it could lead into diving even more into the GL mythos.

It sucks that Martin won't be returning, I hope they can find a director that won't sacrifice story over effects and vice versa.

Hopefully they'll find someone like they did with Harry Potter- Alfonso Cuaron and then David Yates added more depth and their own visual style to that franchise when they took over. Hopefully they'll go in that direction than, say, something like X3 and Ratner, where they went with getting a very commercial director with a "bigger is better" mentality but not adding much beyond that.

Yeah finding a replacement for Campbell is tough. So just throwing some names out there that I think could be potentially viable. Jack Bender. Directed some of the best LOST episodes signed on to Moscow (which appears to be sort of dead int he water). I would say David Yates but if the rumors are true he turned down The Hobbit. Could be because it was a two film commitment or a return to the fantasy genre.

Like Campbell said before, the groundwork has already been laid out, so you do not necessarily need a fantastic director (so long as he doesn't change anything or try to reinvent the wheel) to step in an do a bang up job. Just look at the Harry Potter Franchise. Chris Columbus did the first two films, and later on younger directors like Alfonso Cuarón, or David Yates, who both did well with the films they directed. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't do something like that with Green Lantern.

Get someone who understands sci-fi. Campbell is a great mainstream director, but I don't necessarily think he's ideal for a series like this. I expect a solid film, but for the sequel I'm ready to take the mythos into overdrive and really deliver a full-on science fiction movie with complex characters and themes.

A visionary, if you will.

David Yates is a good idea.
And he already has a good relationship with WB. I think he'd be ideal for that.

Maybe Martin Campbell will change his mind... :D

Something about the GL sequels is that it has to introduce more bizarre elements- like Carol turning into Star Sapphire, planets like Qward, and a more complicated mythology. The good thing about David Yates and Harry Potter is that he stuck with the series and seemed to understand the bigger story over many movies- it would be good to have a director for GL who can tackle those weirder sci-fi elements and also get people invested into all the twists and turns of the GL story and tie everything together.

It doesn't look Like Yates has any project lined up after Harry Potter right now (excepting "St. Nazzare", which releases next year). You never know. They may consider him for the GL sequel.

I read Yates was being looked at to direct "Maleficent" with Angelina Jolie, since Burton dropped out.

I would like to see Duncan Jones be looked at by WB's to direct the Green Lantern sequel. I think he has what it takes to take it to the next level. Jones with seriously considered for Man Of Steel.

Yates would be a good choice also.

Duncan Jones is fantastic, but he's not the right person to take what Campbell did and carry on with it. He would have his own vision. I really wanted him for Superman.

I think he has what it takes, to add his own spin and take on certain things in the sequel and make the look slightly different than what Campbell and just add to it. If Jones can't be had for the Green Lantern sequel, then I would like to see him be considered for the directintg gig for The Flash film!

The key would be to try and bring back the same crew. The crew working under Campbell is a top notch crew.

Alfonso Cuaron did Children of Men. So i wouldn't use him as an example of getting lesser directors in to do sequels. He's vastly superior to Chris Columbus.

I know it's mixing "super"-heros and the majority are not of-fey with such things in the DC universe, but I would love to see the Green Arrow brought into the Franchise.

You know something, they might already have an Oscar winning director on the lot and no one's even thinking about it. Tim Robbins.

would be very bad if they would change the look of the movie for the sequel? i have big respect for Nolan by having a visual different batman movie. in a way 90% of the time you get almost the same movie with sequels.
sometimes you have to reinvent the movie universe to give us the viewer something new.
so i dont think that it would be bad if a new director would make a different looking movie with a different theme.
