The 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Franchise

Yep the remake. Both have great Lisbeth portrayals. But one comes off like a good David Fincher imitation and the other is actually a legit David Fincher film, and he can direct stories like this in his sleep.

I have yet to see the David Fincher version. I saw the original 1st film (not the sequels). In terms of continuity, where does Girl in the Spider Webs fit? Is this what should be next, or are they skipping Girl Who Played with Fire?

Following her breakout role in “Phantom Thread,” Vicky Krieps is set to join Sony and MGM’s “The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” the studio’s sequel to “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”

The thriller currently stars Claire Foy as Lisbeth Salander, “Blade Runner 2049’s” Sylvia Hoeks as Salander’s twin sister, and “The Square’s” Claes Bang as the villain. Details about Krieps’ character are unknown at this time.

Stephen Merchant and Synnøve Macody Lund have joined the cast of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” sequel, “The Girl in the Spider’s Web.”

I keep trying to ignore this film, but the new cast is so goddamn good. The director is top notch.

Somehow, despite how cheaply this could be made, it's possible it can be better than the last film. It just could be one of those weird things. Fincher's film was a letdown and one of his weakest. But this is Sony so I'm skeptical.

Andreja Pejic has been cast in The Girl In The Spider’s Web, Sony Pictures’ Millennium franchise sequel which has The Crown‘s Claire Foy in the starring role of Lizbeth Salander. Fede Alvarez is directing the film, which is set for release October 19. This latest installment was penned by Steven Knight, Alvarez and Jay Basu, based on the global bestseller written by David Lagercrantz, who continued the legacy created by Stieg Larsson. Amy Pascal, Elizabeth Cantillon, Scott Rudin and Yellow Bird are producing the film. Pejic, a stark figure in the transgender community, is marking her first major film debut with this role. She has a successful modeling career, walking in top runway shows such as Galliano, Marc Jacobs, Raf Simons, Paul Smith, and Jean Paul Gaultier and appeared in David Bowie’s music video for The Stars (Are Out Tonight) alongside Tilda Swinton. Pejic is repped by Thirty Three Management.

I'd have rather had Mara and Craig back, but if this is any good, it'd be interesting to compare Mara's and Foy's versions of Lisbeth. This would be quite a departure from Foy from anything else I've seen her in (though that's admittedly only The Crown and Breathe). I've never seen the original or Noomi Rapace's Lisbeth.

Pretty much.

Rooney was so good as Lisbeth, not that Foy won't be, but damn.

She looks like the Matrix. This seems so uninspired.

She has Rooneys Helmet. They kept the Font logo but not Rooney...wtf.

Foy looks different to what I was expecting.

I might be in the minority, but I didn't care for Fincher's movie. Mara is so bland, sorry Joaquin.

I'm still curious about this one. Shame about the previous cast, I thought both Mara and Craig were great in their roles.

I'll watch it, because I like Fede Alvarez. Though, it really bums me out we aren't getting a Fincher sequel.

Rooney and Noomi both had distinctive looks and takes on Lisbeth's character. I prefer the former myself, but the latter was still good to.

Claire Foy, while a good actress, looks so bland here. Like the first two I could say "yeah they look like Lisbeth" just from a still photo. Foy here, not so much.

Eh Noomi is still the best Lisbeth. Each one seems increasingly lesser after that. And I think Claire Foy is a fine actress, but yeah something seems off (and I realize she's only smiling because she's not in character, but something else seems missing).

Disagree. I've seen both, and I prefer Rooney. She feels more like Lisbeth to me. Not that Noomi isn't really good, she is.

Also I wonder if this movie will have to nice visual style that the previous one's (both versions) had?

Has anyone read this book? I only read the original trilogy.

I've read the book. Didn't care for it. I thought the author captured the voice of Mikael very well, but it was too much about him, because it felt "fan fiction-y" when he wrote Lisbeth (which is why we're all here). I don't think he got in her head the way Larsson did, and she isn't in it enough. I also didn't like how they introduced Lisbeth's sister and that it was more of a Swedish author working through his disdain for Google and the NSA (not that I entirely disagree with him), as much as it is about Mikael and Lisbeth.

Let's just say, there is plenty of room for improvement in the adaptation.

Why exactly are they adapting non-Larsson material anyway? Rights?

Well that's probably a big part of it. The first movie didn't get a big enough ROI, so they are doing a new movie with cheaper actors and director.
