This is set up to fail if they go through with it. Who wants to watch a series about a Circus Family?

Ten bucks says he wears green and red every ep.

I know I can already see that .

100 dollers says you'll see Dick Grayson almost completely naked in all most all the episodes .

I also bet 2,000,000 that their be so much sex appeal in this series .

The Fan film entitle "Grayson" is already better than this crap The Cw is trying to create

This just sounds like your average CW teen beat sitcom except with a DC character. Sounds so lame

Don't forget, between the will they or wont they teen love plot, and the emoing against the world of DJ, there will be tv reports and new papers with stories of the mysterious batman cleaning up Gotham,to help make the show sound legit.
And if they stay true to the Robin.. mythos, which they won't, he would have to be something like 11 or 12, in which case we'll get dialogue like "Golly gee, I wish I could work with that Bat-Man person.. Now where are those pictures I secretly took of Babs, I haven't jerked off in two days."

Nothing about Robin, or the character of Dick Grayson is particularly interesting until his parents die.

What they COULD have done was make a Dick Grayson show what takes place in the years that he leaves Batman's side as Robin and travels the world to train to become Nightwing. That would be an interesting show/miniseries to see.

He just has very little to offer without his parents dying. He's not the same character we see in the comics unless his parents die. It would be like having a Bruce Wayne television show where he is featured from age 5-8.

All true. Oddly enough, this same formula could've worked pretty well if they'd applied it to Tim Drake, though. The fact that he was smart enough to piece together the true identity of Batman all on his own could've been expanded into a teen detective concept, and it'd actually make sense for Tim. Of course, I doubt anyone would actually watch it, since no one outside of comic fans knows who Tim is.

This is going to be canceled faster than you can say "Birds of Prey". Call me when they finally make the Gotham Central TV show :o.

I would. Could be interesting. But as someone said earlier, is this is going to be at all true to the mythos, Dick's pre-robin years would have him being 11 or 12. And I will add, if it's at all true to the mythos, a year or two into the series, his parents have to get dead.

In other words:

But Smallville at least can cross genres. Clark has superpowers and meets other super people and so on. Theres nothing special about Dick Grayson that allows him to get into that kind of trouble. They might as well just change all the names because it wont make a difference wether it is actually Grayson or not.

It seems clear from the set up that this will be a young adult drama. The youngest "DJ" could be then would be 13 and even that would be pushing it. Unless they centre around his parents, which would still suck since we know they end up six feet under pretty soon.

Can this thread be turned into a poll, just so we can see how many people actually think this is a good idea?

Wait...SMALLVILLE is going to use Darkseid? I know there's that stupid pseudo Doomsday/EMT guy, but Darkseid?

Its going to be dejavu all over again

"Dick Grayson is 27 years old and he still isn't Robin!'
lol

Pretty much my mode of thinking of this project. I give Smallville another shot, anytime I even temp myself to watch an episode, it makes me disgusted how much they butchered the Superman mythos and makes crap like Lois and Clark look better in retrospect.

I'm pretty much on board with everyone else, Robin is a great character from the comics, and even Nightwing might be cool as a live action weekly TV series. But Dick Grayson pre-Robin? No thank you.

DC needs to clamp down on these projects and get more creative control. I think if they had more innovative respectful-to-the-source-material ideas, they may have a success. You take something familier and put a Roswell twitch to it, you take away what comic fans are looking to see.

By the way....

Didn't Dick Grayson become orphaned when he was like...12?

How interesting a show can we get about a 10-11 year old Dick Grayson? Is this going to be a Lizzy McGuire type show? Or is Dick going to be cast as a 17 year old played by a 26 year old? When he's 16/17 in the comics he's already been Robin for sometime.

Robin is the BOY Wonder, meaning he was YOUNG when he became Robin. How are they going to have a show revolve around a 10 year old and deal with relationships, and cater to a teenage audience? .....without completely ****ing up the character?

Plus, this'll end up just being cited as another reason why Robin couldn't work in live action in a Nolan film...and it's just not fair.

Yeah, they said there are talks about using him, right from the producers' mouths.

He'll probably be a bouncer in a strip club.

I thought I saw somebody say Robin was one of Batman's Worst regular characters? WTF are you talking about, Robin's awesome....but before he became Robin? That's just stupid. Seriously stupid. WTF are they thinking. Grayson before he became Nightwing? Sure.

Ugh. Will he, too, have a human guise, a la Braniac? Ugh.

Anyway, on a completely different note...if the Batman franchise can make "changes" to a mythology, why the hell couldn't a TV series about Robin do so? I would actually kind of expect that, given the nature of SMALLVILLE. Some of you are acting like the main problem you have with this show is that it doesn't make sense if Dick is 12 years old. Clearly he won't be. He'll probably be 16 or so.

12, 16, doesn't matter. He didn't even know how to fight until he went to live with Batman. Which means this show is basically Dawson's creek with acrobats, and I don't care how you slice it, that blows. Why not just make a show about angsty teenage acrobats and keep Robin out of it?

don't bother, facts have no place here.

The ironic part is that although I agree with the overall sentiment here that I think this is a poor idea that would be better served by showing A) Grayson balancing his life as Robin vs that of a normal person his age, or B) transitioning from Robin to Nightwing, I dont understand the unreasonable hate here for it?

It's fricking Dick Grayson we're talking about here. Your basically playing with house money. What's he got to lose? He has no hope in hell of appearing in another Batman film anytime soon so he's a character that could use some exposure. Best case scenario, they add some back story and some depth to a character who has a very basic origin. Worst case, the show bombs after a few episodes and it quickly forgotten a la Birds of Prey and is "no harm, no foul." I just dont get the outrigth vitriol for it here? People should be so empassioned about the upcoming elections in this country.
