Vixen: The Animated Series - Coming to The CW Seed!

Well not like it is going to get 2 million viewers on CWSeed. And I am sure they will take notice if they see a large spike in viewership once all episodes have been released.

Again, ratings value consistency as much as quantity. If that weren't the case, many shows that found their fans late in their run wouldn't have been cancelled.

I said I would just wait for all the episodes but I had nothing to watch so I watched it. It wasn't bad but it just being so short leaves me feeling so unfulfilled. The shadow effect is an interesting way to portray her powers, though I wonder if this is an evolution of her powers starting off as shadows? cause they probably shouldn't change it up between 2 episodes.

I took it to just be an directorial/artistic style rather than anything else.

I've always thought that this character was really cool from her small role in Justice League so I think it's great that she has an animated show. I might be in the minority, but I don't mind the short episodes since sometimes all I want is a low-investment show. I agree that they should make a Vixen live action series. I think it would be easier to do than Flash.

Episode 3 is definitely just set-up. There's a really cool moment where Mari uses the powers of a bird and is going to jump from a rooftop, but freezes. I think that's a realistic reaction, even when you have powers (although I'm sure we'll come back to that). Then it ends right when it's starting to get going.

I wonder where this episode is supposed to take place timeline-wise (with regards to Arrow and Flash).

I think in an interview they said it was during the 15th-16th episode of last season.

How fast is Mari McCabe in the comics? It seemed like she was keeping up with the Flash there (although it was somewhat plot-specific and he was definitely faster at times).

She is as fast as whatever animal she conjures.

This was a good episode to showcase her powers, her being able to outrun Flash was weird but I can only chalk that up to Barry not knowing how fast he can go and not pushing himself enough. And of course they had to bring up that stupid fern.

That speed thing was humorously jarring. Pretty sure even Oliver kept pace with the Flash at times in the episode.

He used his speed arrows to get around all those buildings.

Have to say, I don't think the show did this format any favors. It was definitely poorly paced and the last episode was rushed. It had some enjoyable moments, though.

It was a quick finale. Billed as 8mins, video was only 7:45 with 5mins being dedicated to the actual show. Oliver backed down real quick from his speech about Mari having no training. And even though it is no surprise that she doesn't wear a mask, I'm still surprised she doesn't or that it was glossed over.

There was a lot of storyline skipped over due to the length, I felt like this was the abridged version.

Megalyn Echikunwoke will reprise her role as Mari McCabe/Vixen on episode 15 of this season of Arrow.

I wonder if this makes Vixen season 2 more or less likely. I hope we get it.

Maybe. If so I hope we get longer episodes.

After her Arrow appearance she may likely be on Legends of Tomorrow.

Nice! I'm glad the live action appearance didn't preclude a continuation of the animated series.

I wonder if we'll get more episodes next year.

Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles had a 3-episode first season but was renewed for a 10-episode second season. I'd love to see something similar with Vixen.

CW President Mark Pedowitz had some interesting things to say about the Arrowverse

... the Vixen animated series on CW Seed has been renewed for Season 2. CW President Mark Pedowtiz said there will likely be six or seven mini-episodes (there were six in Season 1), once again totaling about a half hour of content. Pedowtiz said he regretted not airing a half hour special, edited-together version of Season 1 on the CW network and they hope to rectify that by doing so with Season 2.

...
"Hopefully that character can spin itself out or if not, join the Legends [of Tomorrow]."

So I take a few things from that:
1. He wants to air the next season of Vixen on CW as a half hour special. Yes please.

2. He publicly implied that Vixen has a chance to spin off into her own live action series, or become a regular on Legends of Tomorrow. This is the first time I've seen a CW/DC official actually talk about further appearances for Vixen after her scheduled Arrow episode, so that's great. But also, it implies that Pedowitz has softened on his earlier stance of not wanting more DC shows on CW. And that's the big one for me.

3. We're still looking at short form episodes totalling 30 minutes
