The Green Hornet review thread.

Finally saw this yesterday. I really enjoyed this movie! The fights were awesome, the jokes were funny, and the 3D wasn't that bad for a converted film. And the certain cameo near the beginning was hilarious.
I really wish he wouldn't have just had a cameo, but been the real villain of the story, it would have been amazing. :woot:

Like what Gondry's visual inputs and the violence was nice. Sure it does take a few liberty here and there if compared to the 60's show but overall I enjoyed the movie. It's probably unlikely but if they do a sequel they could just make Britt more serious I bet more fans could be more open-minded for the movie.

Yeah, hopefully if they do a sequel they'll tone Britt down.

Finally saw this, and while I know it wasn't as serious as some would have liked it to be, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The performances were all good, particularly Waltz, and I havn't laughed as much at a film since In the Loop. Very impressed. And I thought the wee nods to the show and to Bruce Lee were perfect.

I really, really enjoy the movie. Its kind of movie what people will love or hate without middle terms, but i understand what they doing and i enjoy a lot.Its sounds like Justice legaue International, something anarchy, in a real world but with no shame to laugh about himself, adn very respectfull with GH history. 8.5/10.0

so I saw the movie long weeks ago but I wrote the review just now...

THE GREEN HORNET review

While Batman was twisted into a parody in the 60’s and gone dark later on, Green Hornet has followed the opposite way. The character became a comedy instead of following the usual course of becoming a gritty anti-hero. Michel Gondry’s caught my absolute attention with that masterpiece called “Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind” so having him behind the Green Hornet movie was a major hook.

Whatever the reason that’s behind a comedy movie, this must at least be a) funny, b) groundbreaking to any extent and c) have a good assorted narration. Michel Gondry’s “Green Hornet” succeeds to some extent in two of these points.

As a comedy, Gondry’s movie is funny and it works as such. It justifies comedy as a way to show the story of this partyboy who feels the urge to become an improvised superhero and the tribulations of getting a car, gadgets and a faithful useful side-kick (playing with the belief that it was Kato, played by Bruce Lee in the 1960’s TV series, who did all the work, which – as cool as Bruce Lee was – is far from the truth but hey...). So turning a dark character into a working comedy succesfully in this era makes this movie groundbreaking enough (and well, luckily I haven’t seen any Seth Rogen movies so I can’t tell if this is just another one shoehorned into a Green Hornet movie). In a world where superhero movies usually suffer from the worst kinds of crappy unfunny humour - from the over-cheesed Raimi’s Spiderman movies to the realistic serious-toned Nolan’s Batman Begins – “The Green Hornet” shows that good comedy in a superhero movie is possible.

Now, as a narration it gets tired way before the end. While comedy was great to introduce the characters, their motivations and the heroes themselves, the movie gets creatively dry soon after the Green Hornet is introduced to the world. The same kind of jokes at that point become completely underwhelming, repetitive and boring. And the climax takes its time to come to save the situation.

Another problem is that the Green Hornet character makes no difference at all to Rogen’s interpretation (and to the movie as a whole); it’s just Britt Reit in a suit, so that Green Hornet loses everything the character should have brought, comedy or not. In fact, you could have had the very same lines to him but a different interpretation could have made the character something new, still funny but unseen in the movie so far and thus refreshing.

I dare to think that in the hands of many other directors, this could have ended up being another forgettable piece of crap, but Gondry makes a decent effort – far from his usual good movies – to keep this boat floating.

3.5/5

I just saw the movie again recently and I don't think that Reid is as much of a buffoun as people are making him out to be. Sure he messes up here and there but he does kick a good amount of ass on his own and the whole taking the d.a. down was all his idea. Sure Kato is the star but he always has been and he always will be doesn't matter who you put in the roles. I love the action scenes in the movie and I love Rogen's and Chou's chemistry together so I for one really hope there is a sequel with these two. The comedy is hit or miss but honestly what movie doesn't have some comedy that misses. One thing that I thought was great is that when the two go at each other its played serious not comedic like Iron Man 2 which I thought was an embarrassing fight scene.

Other than him being Bruce Lee, where did this idea come from?

True. good observation.

Really? My whole theater was laughing at that scene.

I dont think that it was completely comical but not completely serious

Finally got to watch this all the way through today, was quite enjoyable, the action was okay but there really wasnt enough of it, I thought Rogen was funny and Chou was cool as Kato, Diaz was a bit wasted and it would have been nice to see Waltz more, his best scene was the cameo of Franco which was cool, overall not too bad, but nothing spectacular either, not sure if i'd buy it but would watch a sequel.

7.5/10

hmmm...I think i'm on my own here...didnt actually like the flick....well, didnt like seth rogan as the hornet would be more to the point....but thats just me

I enjoyed this a lot more that i thought i would.

7/10

watching it today will give my review/score later

Didn't mind the film, was a fun, no brainer action flick, the twist was a little forseeable though, the ending was funny, the movie was funny. Chudnofsk was the best character in the film, Britt was also funny.

7/10

The whole slow down time thing was not an enjoyable part of the movie for me

I was expecting s**t, I mean I was expecting it to be just awful. But to my surprise I mostly very much enjoyed it. It's funny, filmed in an interesting way and the action scenes are different and interesting. The buddy stuff between Rogen and Chou is funny and the addition of the comedy gives the movie a fresh and different feel than other Superhero films. Unfortunely, the villain is weak and his scenes just plain don't work. I get what they were trying to head for but it doesn't work and drags down the film. With the expection of the cameo scene none of the big bad's scenes work and this drags down the movie quite a bit as does the length and the overly actioned up ending. Plus Diaz is wasted in a thankless role.

One of the other huge problems lie's in Seth Rogen himself, he's a funny guy but he's not a very good actor so the drama scenes never have any weight to them. I can't help feeling that this would have been a better comedy action film if James Franco or some other actor who was good at comedy as well as acting was in the lead role. The gags also get more tiring as the movie goes along, I found the movie less interesting as it went on.

At the end of the day I still lable the movie a pleasant surprise but it could have been a great movie if the script had been polished a little more and a different lead had been choosen. I do very much appreciate that the male asian character wasn't emasculated though.

Couldn't agree more.

This got the job done, I guess. The humor was what saved it.

6.5/10 or a B-

The humour was everything. I mean, it wasn't a superhero movie with humour, it was a comedy with a comic book character in it.

Watched the movie over the weekend and I thought it was horrible. 3 out of 10. I'm so done with Seth Rogan! He plays the same character in every movie!

I seen the movie 2 weeks ago and I agree with this. Saw the movie with my Mom and she usually would like movies like this with action and comedy, but said this one sucked.

Finally checked it out on DvD. Liked everything but rogan..hated him as the hornet. waaay too much cheese from him, and i'm talking crusty, moldy azz cheese thats been in the fridge for 6 months.

Don't get me wrong, I like some humor in films like this, but rogan came off as being completely clueless.
They had a chance close to the end for him to finally ''get it'' and become a real hero, and I was like, yes!! here it comes, but he still dropped the ball. I know that wasn't his fault, blame the writers/director. 4/10.

I agree, but am not sure if it wasn't Rogen's fault. Gondry has said that he had a lot of problems because Rogen was making many decisions for him, and had a huge ego.

I have to say, aside from being late to the party that I enjoyed it very much.

Somehow, I just didn't bother at all when it was released and I had never been interested in The Green Hornet character (admittedly, because I have never read a GH comic or watched the old TV shows/films) but i was pleasantly surprised.
