i hate that they put xmas stuff out so early.... are people really in that much of a hurry

not really a fan of christmas, besides the ancient music cd's they play
(a fan of that era, but god the christmas music is depressing)
the true meaning of the holiday season got lost in a sea of

Of course you do... everybody does. Nobody really likes Christmas. They just like the idea of Christmas... the nostalgia of Christmas. Christmas... actually sucks.

I can't stand hearing about people getting trampled to death every Black Friday by a mob behaving like animals. Aside from that, though, I can tolerate the consumerism aspect of it all. But what really pisses me off is this "Christmas wars" crap... how someone can feel justified telling you off or giving you the evil eye because you wished them "happy holidays" and were supposed to have said "Merry Christmas" because "MY HOLIDAY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THOSE ONES THAT WORSHIP FALSE GODS."

And then there's all this fighting about whether a Christmas tree/manger should be put up in public places, or a menorah. Or both (which neither party is usually happy with, it seems). Just don't allow either one. Problem solved.

And I love this "Remember the reason for the season" stuff. Yes, I know you mean Jesus, but the SEASON is winter, and it was around long before he ever showed up, so no, he's not the reason for it. It happens every year. Get over yourself.

And fundamentalist Christians are always on the attack against atheists, but never more so than at Christmas, where any attempt to secularize the holiday is blamed on them whether they're responsible for it or not. That's not how you're supposed to act if you're a Christian. I don't care if atheists are trying to ban the holiday COMPLETELY, you aren't supposed to hate them or say hateful things about them, etc. You're supposed to "love your enemies" and "turn the other cheek." If that doesn't seem fair, then you should have thought about that before you signed up to follow the man who said those things. I'm not even an atheist, but I get tired of seeing them being used as scapegoats for every little thing.

The only thing I don't like about Christmas is that is starts too early. It's already eclipsed Thanksgiving, which is now more Christmas Halftime then it's own holiday. Then Santa started poking his ass into Halloween. Went to a CVS on my way to work this morning and the store looked like Christmas threw up all over it, it's totally decked out already. The Christmas holiday is great to me, but only after Thanksgiving, I don't want to think about it until then. I already have people asking me what I want for Christmas, it's too early for that $#!t

The whole stressful Christmas shopping experience became a non issue for me when I just started shopping online.

Also Christmas became more fun when I was able to really get people gifts they wanted. No more macaroni art or here's a cd.

I agree that christmas and halloween shouldnt be this close together, but after halloween november 1st i start making my christmas list out just to see how much everything will cost me this year, only cause when i was younger i spent way to much on christmas because i never saved before hand and went into stores blindly not knowing how much anything cost. Now with two kids I have to start my christmas list early.

I wasn't able to find out much about them, but what little I did discover suggests that they are some kind of artifact. They were put to some use by the ancient Egyptians, but archaeologists can't agree on whether they were used as coasters or a primitive version of the frisbee.

Wow, this is the last thread I expected to see on the Hype, much less anywhere on the internet, but it's certainly a haven for me! I've never done Christmas, and I never believed in Santa Claus. I'm not trying to sound better than anyone, but I used to laugh my head off at kids on tv or kids I knew who tried to convince me Santa Claus was real. It's a cool story though.

I don't really care to spend money on presents as if I have to do it, especially not for relatives, possibly ones I don't even know well; if I ever have a wife or kids I'll get them presents anytime during the year. I don't have to take one day out of the year to do so for them. I'm not against the decorating; I think it's very pretty.

Two of my favorite movies are the first two Home Alone movies, and those are completely Christmas movies. One of my favorite artists is Thomas Kinkade, and he paints a lot of Christmas scenes. But I don't do Christmas myself, and I get called a Grinch by a lot of people for it. I don't think that's right; any holiday or tradition that's forced on someone has something wrong with it. The movie Christmas with the Kranks annoys me, outside of being a terrible movie, because there is a lot of truth to it. People get annoyed if you don't do Christmas. You're automatically the "Scrooge", as if Christmas has to be built into every human being by default. Not so. I refuse to be told by society I have to celebrate its holiday, so from now until I go to my grave I won't do it. No other holiday can get you more ostracized than Christmas for not celebrating it. In fact I think that is what annoys me about Christmas more than anything else about it, and keeps me stubbornly detached from it.

I really just hate the songs. Not the ones about Jesus or the spirit of giving. All the stupid Santa this, Rudolph that, and snow, snow, snow. I hate snow. Songs that make it sound like such an awesome thing irritate me. Have you ever thought about how demented "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" is? He sees you when you're sleeping? That's scary! And how about Rudolph. This is the story of a deformed mutant who was ostracized by his community until they discovered a practical use for his mutation. Then they wanted to exploit him. Rudolph should have told Santa and all the normal reindeer to eat a ****.

my kind of thread!

i don't hate Christmas, but i do hate what it has become. it seems that every year, Christmas is coming earlier and earlier. additionally, it's always more commercial and about buying things. it's suppose to be a time of joy, but you see more people stressed and in a crappy mood especially those in the retail world.

only thing i like about Christmas is the food - getting to pig out on X-Mas Eve dinner - and spending time with the family, especially those that come from out of town and have not seen since last year. i also like that many channels play some of my favorite X-Mas movies like Christmas Vacation, Scrooged, Home Alone, etc.

i think i'll just pull a Seinfeld and celebrate Festivus instead. Frank Costanza knows what's up

I like seeing people's Christmas decorations.

I shop online.

I don't go to the mall unless it's really early in the morning or after 9 pm and I don't really encounter too much people.

From perusing the Thanksgiving thread... it seems you weren't the only one who had a bad thanksgiving. Not Michael Jackson bad but bad meaning bad not bad meaning good. Aside from it being hijacked by the sports mongers, that is.

The only "good" thing I can say is that I ate a VERY healthy dinner which did not include nasty turkey, and I didn't overeat whatsoever.

Nah, he's in the Bronx with his family tonight. We sent a few texts back and forth, but I'd rather not bother him. I already felt bad because I interrupted with texts last night when he was out with friends because I was having a terrible night of drama before Thanksgiving even started He didn't mind, but still. He'll be here tomorrow, though.

I had mushroom caps stuffed with crab meat, beef tenderloin with a wine sauce w/mushrooms and shallots, sausage & mushroom sage stuffing (no high sodium gravy on it either, weee), potatoes w/balsamic vinegar, spinach, cranberry relish with grapefruit and mint (I made that one) and a low-fat pumpkin cheesecake that I made, as well. I only had a little bit of each because I hate that "stuffed" feeling that people seem to love this holiday.
