The Guns thread

Any semi automatic with a high capacity magazine is an assault weapon imo. It's designed to kill people in combat. You don't need to be able to fire off that many rounds with a click click click click.

Assault weapon is a dumb term made up by people who know nothing about guns. If you want to get real about gun control, you need to know what you're talking about. You need to be specific. You want to ban all semiautomatics? Fine. It's not going to happen, but that is a definition. You want to ban a type of large-caliber guns? That's actually feasible. You want to ban clips with more than 10 rounds? Also fine. But be specific.

We don't need to adopt the boring nomenclature of the small penis brigade in order to identify and ostracize their ridiculous toys. Everyone normal knows that "assault weapon" refers to a gun designed purely to (i) be as lethal to human beings as possible, and (ii) allow gun nuts to fantasize that they are not overgrown children subscribing to an infantile fantasy in order to obviate the recognition that they lead failed and disappointing lives.

Hold on - you're saying the number of gats in my safe doesn't add inches to my ****?

Explain that though. Because semiautomatic rifles are widely used for hunting.

Military grade isn't really a useful term.

I've never heard of semi automatics being used for hunting. Do you really need all that to bag a deer?

Handgun for personal protection, AR-15 for hog hunting...so who needs over 10 AR-15s? Anybody that owns that many needs to be put on a watch this or something. Or get into stamp collecting.

Wouldnt an AR15 simply blow that hog apart or am I thinking it's more powerful than it actually is? I assume the point is to eat the hog, right?

Honorable hunters eat their kill, yes. But some gun nuts just want to blow **** apart and crack a beer.

Doesn't seem quite sporting. :(

I have a young kids. Not a day goes by I wonder if this is the day some random nut decides to make a name for himself. I know logically that there are better odds they die in a car accident, but it doesn’t make the anxiety any less.

I just don’t understand why we aren’t even trying. Why Republicans shut down the idea of even doing research into mass shootings. I mean, I understand why from a political point of view. But at some point, don’t you think it could happen to you or someone you care about, and you did nothing to stop it?

There is still no explanation why the automatic and semi-automatic rifles are good for hunters or for self-defense. If someone is threatening your life, would you go home and pick up an AR15 to blow him to pieces? Weapons like this are only good for one thing: killing a lot of people in very short period of time.

Nah, the AR-15 uses a smaller round than most would use to hunt.

This attitude is part of the reason why you will never get anything done. You don't even understand how they work. A blanket ban on scary looking guns isn't going to work.

Automatic rifles are illegal. Semiautomatic guns are fairly popular for home defense. You don't have to load rounds. Just pull the trigger to shoot.

The gun nuts all love to compare guns to cars and how “cars kill people too”, so I say we make guns at least as safe as cars:

-Pass a 6 hour behind the trigger course to get a permit
-you can then go to gun ranges to practice, but cannot operate a gun without supervision
-after a year, you pay a fee and get licensed by the state, Including a record shared country wide
-to purchase a gun, you must have a title... to use it in public, either carrying or using at a range, it must be registered
- all guns registered for public use must be insured for liability
- every failure in safety procedure results in fines or possible license suspension or total revocation depending on the violations

Add the majority-endorsed background checks on ALL sales, reinstate the mental health provisions Obama ordered, and force anyone with a license to be retested in safety once a year, and people with carry permits should get mental health checks quarterly. Keep auto weapons banned and ban anything which makes a semi-auto function like an auto.

Will this stop every mass shooting? No, but i believe it would help considerably

I propose that "Arms" should be defined by an addendum to the Second Amendment as any defensive weapon available to an ordinary American Citizen as at December 15 1791.

Your argument is flawed, since cars are much more expensive and claim far more lives than guns. Your also wrong about Obama's mental health provisions. The key term here is "due process." Thanks to Congress and Trump, the court's would have to decide if the individual is unfit to own a weapon. This is still America. We still have rights.

There's also far more car owners than gun owners. I'm curious what the ratio of car owners to vehicle deaths is compared to gun owners and gun deaths.

I propose that "Arms" should be defined by an addendum to the Second Amendment as any defensive weapon available to an ordinary American Citizen as at December 15 1791.

The Supreme Court pretty much already clarified it as much. Which is why making sawed off shot guns illegal doesn't infringe on someones right to bear arms. in United States v. Miller (1939), the Court ruled:

"The Court cannot take judicial notice that a shotgun having a barrel less than 18 inches long has today any reasonable relation to the preservation or efficiency of a well regulated militia, and therefore cannot say that the Second Amendment guarantees to the citizen the right to keep and bear such a weapon.

In the absence of any evidence tending to show that possession or use of a "shotgun having a barrel of less than eighteen inches in length" at this time has some reasonable relationship to the preservation or efficiency of a well regulated militia, we cannot say that the Second Amendment guarantees the right to keep and bear such an instrument. Certainly it is not within judicial notice that this weapon is any part of the ordinary military equipment, or that its use could contribute to the common defense."

My issue with the Gun control debate is this: what law could have been passed to stop an evil person from wanting to kill another? Does it matter if it's a Gun a knife a car or a rock.
A Gun by itself is a inanimate object until somebody uses it. It's the human heart that has to be addressed.

Yes it does!

There are laws against murder, but people still do it. Your argument is flawed.
