Eminem's "Not Afraid," the first single from his upcoming album Recovery, enters the Hot 100 at #1. It's the first song to debut in the top spot since Britney Spears' "3" did it in October. It's only the second rap song ever to debut at #1, following "I'll Be Missing You" by Puff Daddy & Faith Evans (featuring 112) in 1997. "Not Afraid" is Eminem's third #1 on the Hot 100, following "Lose Yourself," his Oscar-winning smash from 8 Mile, and "Crack A Bottle," his all-star collaboration with Dr. Dre and 50 Cent.

"Not Afraid" sold 379,000 copies in its first week. That's the biggest weekly sales tally so far this year. Only three songs in digital history have sold more copies in their first week. All were 2009 releases: Flo Rida's "Right Round" (636,000), the Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" (465,000) and the aforementioned "Crack A Bottle" (418,000).

"Not Afraid" posted the biggest weekly sales total since Ke$ha's "Tik ToK" rang up sales of 394,000 in the week ending Jan. 3. (That was the final week of the 2009 chart year.)

Recovery, Eminem's sixth studio album, is due for release on June 22. Eminem's last album, Relapse, debuted at #1 in May 2009. It posted first-week sales of 608,000 copies. Only one album, Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream, sold more copies in any one week last year.

"Not Afraid" also enters Hot Digital Songs at #1. It's Eminem's fifth #1 on that list, following "Just Lose It" in 2004, "When I'm Gone" in 2005," "Smack That" in 2006 (an Akon smash on which he was featured) and "Crack A Bottle." ("Lose Yourself" was released in September 2002, nine months before the introduction of the Digital Tracks chart. The anthemic hit has sold 2,702,000 copies.)

ill have to look for it. any tracks you recommend?

Tigallo for Dolo, Revenge, So Cold, 24 are the stand outs for me (keep in mind I've only heard it all the way through a couple times)

thanks for the recommendations RockSP, i gotta check this album out soon

My friend had 2 tracks from The Game on a mix CD that totally go me on his wagon. Better Days from his upcoming The R.E.D. Album and Red Bandana which I don't think is on any of his official albums. Better Days is one of those "keepin it real" tracks along the lines of Changes or Life Goes On from 2pac. Red Bandana is just raw as hell and badass while talkin **** about 50 cent. Anything else from this guy anyone would recommend?

I wouldn't even guess that was an Em album if I didn't already know.

Kanye's back:

I don't know if this is just a street single reintroducing Ye back to the rap game, but it's definitely mainstream friendly. Either way, the beat bangs. Hard.

Its nice to see Kanye bite back after the overblown backlash to the VMA incident, and I hope we see him go after some more people, not just snl.

That BOB and Hayley song Airplane is really growing on me. i may have to get his album

edit:

a cool cover of B.O.B's Airplanes, no rapping. By lisa Scinta

Terrible. Em is 0/2 with me so far on this new album. But then again so was Relapse and I liked it enough.

I just don't think this career reinvention is really right for him as an artist. It's strange because he's becoming a more conventional rapper with his production and guest features. Usually that's a sign of trying to reach mainstream. But as we all know, he's already there.

I know not many are going to agree with me on this, but Jay is the perfect example of how to evolve and progress with your music. He's not nearly the way he was in his prime, but the guy has a good ear for the type of songs to make. And he's also consciously aware of what's right for him to rap about. I feel like Em is chasing some sort of appeasement threshold that he'll never attain. Relapse was for the hardcore fans who've been listening to him since his Slim Shady days. Recovery is starting to be like Em trying to carve out a new fanbase that didn't really like his usual artistic sensibilities.

Eminem, Royce Da 5′9″ and Mr. Porter’s Tim Westwood Freestyle drops tomorrow.

A snippet was released. Em and Royce sound good, Porter is mediocre as always.
