Yeah, I never got it when rappers released CDs on the same day as some sort of "competition". What's stopping me from buying both?

I know Kanye and Cudi aren't doing that but I'm just saying. Kanye and 50 Cent did it a few years ago.

Anyone else got into Willow's song "Whip My Hair" ?

I'm thoroughly sick of it at this point, but I do like the song. Very catchy.

It's for publicity reasons - to get more hype around the album releases and to garner more attention from the public. It also helps make people aware of the albums who may not have even heard of the release until they listened to their weekly celebrity gossip and heard about the "drama" between the artists.

Hm, makes sense. I tend to know what CDs I wanna buy months in advance. I can't imagine walking into Best Buy and being surprised by a Jay-Z CD. Shame on me lol

Albums I can't wait for in November will be Kanye's album, Curren$y Pilot Talk 2, and Lloyd Banks H.F.M. 2.

Personally I feel Cudi has fallen off hard but thats just me.

Funny. I think Banks has fallen off and Cudi hasnt faltered

DId any hear Black Eyed Peas new song The Time? Honestly I like I Gotta Feeling and Let's Get ******ed. There other songs are catchy, but really are just good to dance to. I never found them to be terrible. But there new song is just

The hook is cool, but it's sad that will.i.am made the song

Can we even call what Cudi does anymore "rapping"?

Banks has actually changed to a style that complements his wordplay as where Cudi has ran with what he did in "Day and Night" the mumbling out sounds that more or less have the same intonation as every other song he has ever done has gotten worse.

Cudi had potential but squandered it by starting dumb beef, being an admitted coke head and for turning into a fairy singer.

Sounds a bit hypocritical as Kanye did the same thing but at least it took him longer to get to that stage and now thankfully he is back to just spitting some good rap.

As for Llyod Banks he is the best thing from G-Unit and his more weed focus songs work. Not that a good rapper needs to bring up weed to be good but it works with that he is trying to do.

Good god. You liked "I Gotta Feeling," but this song is bad? I don't think I want to hear it, now.

Cudi, like B.o.B. is just a hip hop artist. He takes so many different genres and infuses hip hop in them. He's awesome.

I dont see what his blow problem has to do with his music? But I will admit his Wale beef is really hypocritical. In an interview, he talks about how he's all about being a positive force since he kicked his addiction, but then he's talking sh** about Wale. :whatever: But IM not one of those guys who takes sides in a beef. I just want good music.

As for Banks. Him being the best thing in G-Unit isnt saying much, and this is from a former Unit fan. 50 is hit or miss (mostly miss) nowadays and spends most of this time acting. Yayo has always been wack. Banks always was the best, he used to literally be my favorite rapper of the moment for about 2 years. But now his songs are mediocre, 2/3 tracks from HFM2 have been bad, Blue Fridays isnt that good, his voice is just mad annoying now, also he's not original anymore. Gun talk may be good for my Battle music, but really is not something I'll play alot especially if it's mediocre. Guns, weed, b****es (not women, b****es) thats all he does. The only step towards originality is that he's doing collabos you wouldnt expect him to. Another point of unoriginality: he basically reshot his original album cover and yet still made it worse than the original.

That appeals to me alot less than

I guess because of the recent wave of fresh sounding artists like Cudi, B.o.B, and to a lesser extent Wale that I take more notice of unoriginality.

Flocka Sucks. IMO.
Its hard for to see why people like that kind of rapping.
Cudi and Kanye are changing the game slowly, but surely. Cudi says he has already proved he can rap and is going to stop after this second album. I dont think he is going to stop completely, but his next project are going to be focused on "rock"? I fear the Idea only because of Wanye's attempt wasn't too popular.
Kid Cudi might be better at it tho.

While I agree on the cover art being rather lazy and Cudi's being pretty impressive that has zero effect on how good the music is. While cover art is relatively important if the music trumps the artwork its not really a problem for me at least.

He does mention *****es but does it in a comical way. For example in "Finish line" from HFM 2

"I know I’m watched by an angel
still feel her hugs and her kisses
on the phone with my grandma
don’t give a f-ck bout these *****es
"

Thats pretty smart wordplay IMO. Gets the listener thinking he is talking about some girl he likes but he is actually referring to his grandma. :hehe:

Cudi for example just blurts out a ton of elaborate words and nice sounding murmurs and gruffs, stuff that doesn't correspond or end a previous line well. Its all to "nonsensical" and I don't even mean that in the sense of meaning but rather flow and rhyming, but some people like that so more power to them.

Even objectively just reading the lyrics Banks goes in way harder in the collab "Christian Dior Denim Flow" than Cudi who is saved for the end who really didn't deserve the spot.

Just a mere passing of the lyrics shows how Cudi isn't anywhere near the emcee that Banks is.

Now I'm not discrediting Cudi's understanding of music as he does his own thing which is a mish mash of several different genres which sells well and has gained a sizable audience, some people like this but I prefer my rap without the hipster/indie/rap mesh. Done with that musical phase of my life personally.

Gotta check out Celph Titled and Buckwild's Nineteen Ninety Now. Easily one of the best records of the year.

A sick throwback to that East Coast 90s sound, and Celph kills every track.

omg a nicki/busta track could be amazing!

hers might be the first cd i buy in a long time, but i've been a fan of hers since the Can't Stop Won't Stop Remix by her and Lil Wayne.

Didn't know who she was, but when someone says "You be Harry Potter and I'll be Hermione" in a song, i knew I had to take notice.
